this cat scene:

I haven't seen the movie, but this clip is all sorts of great.

just watched it a few times, I dig it when just starts flinging them across the dinning room. lol

Out of context that scene is hilarious and the idea for it was great, but the execution of it in an otherwise serious movie was pretty bad.

"Irreversible" is the same director, no? Isn't that the one where the dude beats the guy's face in with a fire extinguisher?

Yep, with the really devastating rape scene as well.

Just want to clarify that it was an ANAL rape scene.

I thought it was nicely done. All (many?) of the horror scenes had some dark humor in them. I don't want to add any spoilers but other violent scenes could also be interpreted as funny, too.

(I thought you guys were implying that the cats didn't look realistic, or something.)
Rock & Roll is background music for teenagers to fuck to.

Really enjoyable & graphic movie about living in Chicago with all the black on black violence.  Sad situation for some of the kids.

I saw the new Sherlock Holmes movie a couple of days ago. Pretty good movie, really. A lot of action coupled with a plot that seems very much secondary to getting Holmes to travel around Europe and kick ass and so forth. B-

CanookieWookie

I've never seen the first one, is it good?  Do I need to watch it, to understand the second one?

GodShifter

I'd say if you have working knowledge of who Sherlock Holmes & Dr. John Watson are, then no, you do not need to see the first movie to understand the 2nd one. Completely different antagonist, completely different angle with the "plot".

A couple of hold overs from the first one, in terms of the cast, but they are secondary female characters and one is out of the movie within the first 10 min.

Lumpy

I'll watch that "Interrupters" documentary if Netflix has it.

Its good Lumpy.  Certainly, to me, it was shocking to see how much violence there is out there and how kids can turn so violent at the smallest thing.

Thanks Jason.  I liked what I have seen of the previews of the new Sherlock Holmes.

Naïve Canadian.   ;)

CanookieWookie

Absolutely. Chicago compared to Toronto is like night and day.  People who think it's bad here, really need to see this movie.

The Shocker

You get A&E up there Will?  If so, you should watch The First 48.

The Shocker

Slight, but fun.  Tails off a little at the end, but a lot of movies do.  Nudity would have helped.

I watch the show all the time.  It's a great show, it shows how ridiculous some people are, and how reckless they can be with other peoples lives.

The movie is like it, but more in depth.

The Shocker

The First 48 wanted to film here in Jackson (our murder rate is that high), but the Jackson PD declined.  The talk here was that the PD was worried about how they would come across (incompetent, racist?).

CanookieWookie

That would not surprise me.  If the Dept. is shit, then they don't want to look like clowns on tv.  I'm sure there are many more Depts. that refuse to be filmed.

Watched The Adjustment Bureau with the wife. She liked it, I thought it had an interesting idea, but was a half hour too long.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was killer.  so much so I had to order the Swedish extended version trilogy from Amazon

GodShifter

Priest, I'd be interested in what you think of the Swedish versions in comparison to the American version. I've heard good things about the Fincher version, if I'm being honest. I didn't think there was much reason to see this re-make with Craig and Rooney Mara because I have seen the Swedish version, but the reviews and word of mouth is winning me over for the American version.

I've read all three books, too, so you definitely say I'm a "fan".
