Saw the ad on the bus. I think it has to do with a ghost in a black leather body suit. It looks hot.

Haunted house.

The only thing is I'm not a big Dylan McDermott fan.

American Horror Story revolves around the Harmons, a family of three who moved from Boston to Los Angeles as a means to reconcile past anguish. The all-star cast features Dylan McDermott as "Ben Harmon," a psychiatrist; Connie Britton as "Vivien Harmon," Ben's wife; Taissa Farmiga as "Violet," the Harmon's teenage daughter; Jessica Lange in her first-ever regular series TV role as "Constance," the Harmon's neighbor; Evan Peters plays "Tate Langdon," one of Ben's patients; and Denis O'Hare as "Larry Harvey." Guest stars for the series include Frances Conroy as the Harmon's housekeeper; Alexandra Breckenridge as the Harmon's housekeeper; and Jamie Brewer as Constance's daughter.

I don't have any shows I watch regularly (not since Buffy...rest her soul) so this might be it.

I think you'll like it Deaner, it has a lot of sexin for an FX show.

You aren't watching Ringer with SMG in it?

No. I can't stomach her outside of the Buffy character plus it looks like she cries a lot on that show.

Ringer is ok, not great.  I still like her though.

I did watch the first episode of Person of Interest on CBS. That was kind of good, I like Michael Emerson.

The Moira character and the Down's syndrome girl were the best thing about this.  Wildly uneven, but interesting enough I'll give it a few more chances.

I saw Jessica Lange last week at our local museum.  She has a photograph exhibit going on and did a commentary on her work.  Kinda cool.

Anyway y'all have convinced me to give this show a try.

Title: Re: American Horror Story
Post by: EaterofBirds on October 15, 2011, 08:21:49 AM
I dont know, I found the first episode very surreal and creepy. The creepy factors were way high, and not knowing much kept me glued to the screen

Alot of storylines passing through this though, hopefully they can hold it together.

I was expecting this to have flashes of nu-metal, flashy effects and weighed down cgi..and none of that. Implied terror, nice buildups, great sets, interesting and creepy characters (not to sure about the thing in the basement though..) thrown in with a nu-gothic feel and some erotica and you have a keeper of the story doesnt go awry.

The female lead is sexy...Jessica Lange looks fantastic and the maid is smoking..the ladies get Mcdermotts ass across the screen every now and then, so everyone's happy.

They gave why the maid looks differently in last nights episode, as she is seen how the male perceives her to be, or something to that effect. Can't be sure about too much else, as it gets a bit confusing. Whats the deal with the burnt guy again? I cant be sure is he's a ghost or whatnot, but if everyones a ghost, how can they interact the way they are with people and be seen by all (least Im pretty sure everyone sees them). Some things need to be 'tied' together soon, and I have faith they will. Maybe they have something good up their sleeve for the Halloween week episode.

Havent been able to figure out the latex guy, who hasnt been back in awhile or the down syndrome daughter, who was there every 5 minutes in the first few, now havent seen her in a bit. I think this may be the problem with throwing too much out there in the first few episodes...you start wondering where and how everything works together down the road, or at least I do

oh..and Connie Britton is turning me the fuck on.

QuoteThey gave why the maid looks differently in last nights episode, as she is seen how the male perceives her to be, or something to that effect.

But if she died at a young age how could she be aging after death? I guess that's the cool thing about ghosts you can give them any ability in the world because they're ghosts.

QuoteWhats the deal with the burnt guy again? I cant be sure is he's a ghost or whatnot,

He was one of the people that lived in the house. He set his wife and two kids on fire. That's how he got burned. He said he recently got out of prison and is dying of brain cancer so I presume he is not a ghost.

Quotebut if everyone's a ghost, how can they interact the way they are with people and be seen by all (least Im pretty sure everyone sees them). Some things need to be 'tied' together soon, and I have faith they will. Maybe they have something good up their sleeve for the Halloween week episode.

The more they tie together the more mysteries the create. I like that about the show.

QuoteHaven't been able to figure out the latex guy, who hasn't been back in awhile or the down syndrome daughter, who was there every 5 minutes in the first few, now haven't seen her in a bit.

I think they're bringing the latex suit back next week. I wonder if it's that ghost kid that is hanging out with the daughter.

QuoteI think this may be the problem with throwing too much out there in the first few episodes...you start wondering where and how everything works together down the road, or at least I do

I read that a lot of tie-ins to the show are in the opening credits, you have to pay attention to that if you want some spoilers. It shows what happened to all the families that lived there in the past.
Title: Re: American Horror Story

Looks like it's too easy to turn this into Lost type bullshit.

Is she a ghost maid, or a maid ghost??

The burn guy looks too much like the burned retard from Land of the Dead.

Thanks M--I was distracted for about 15 minutes in the first one, on the phone..so that kind of cleared things up with the burnt guy. I say, to the haters, give it a chance, this one seems all the much more smartly written than that Lost shitfest.

Title: Re: American Horror Story
Post by: The Shocker on October 27, 2011, 10:19:33 AM
Well first off I half watch every show nowadays because I'm on the infernets.  Granted I haven't watched last nights episode, but last week seemed to jump back and forth in time so much I got lost.  So dude really did kill his affair chick?  Did the burned guy really help him or is he not real?  And the cop looking for the missing girl - that was one of the home invaders, right?  Did he say he found her later?  I thought she was dead.
Title: Re: American Horror Story
Post by: demon gal on October 27, 2011, 11:06:37 AM
I'm 99% sure the burn guy is a living person because he's not stuck on the property like the ghosts are  (however, as the story progresses this could change ) and yes the burn guy really did kill that crazy prego chick and they built a gazebo over her grave which already contained the body of the maid who was murdered by Constance. Burn guy is now blackmailing the hubby.

The cop was also real, not a home invader; he was not looking for the hubby's lover he was looking for a missing patient who tried to commit suicide during her session. Dylan McDermott was drugged by his ghost maid so when he saw her cleaning up the blood he didn't know if he killed his patient or not. It was just another stress layer added to his story line.

Post by: The Shocker on October 27, 2011, 11:15:28 AM
Thanks so the missing person cop was not looking for one of the home invaders?  Was he looking for the black woman?  I just read an interview with one of the creators of the show that explained some things.  I can link it if you'd like to read it, but it does contain spoilers.
Title: Re: American Horror Story

Yes it was that lady, the boring one. She tried to kill herself because her psychiatrist was zoning out while she was talking about how boring everyone finds her.

I don't mind spoilers. Post the link please.

everyone came out of the woodwork last night. this show kind of rules. now that Walking Dead kind of blows, this and Sons of Anarchy are the ones I look forward to the most.

well..til Hell on Wheels starts. That one looks good.

Next Sunday is the Iron Chef Big Deals show premiere, so WD will now fall victim of the DVR and be watched when there absofuckinglutly nothing else on.

Yup there were some answers last night however the episode wasn't all that scary. They made the ghosts too human last night. I get that they get to walk among the living and I actually enjoyed the part where the daughter's boyfriend got all happy about being able to go to the park, which was kind of cute.

I'm getting a little sick of that horrible marriage and that troublesome fetus. Does she have to have a pregnancy scare every fricken episode?

Holy twists batman. Best episode of the season. Totally digging the Violet reveal.  :o

The creepiest thing for me is that Constance is the more evil, southern version of my mother.

All of my mom's husbands are dead and our dog always had the runs. Makes me wonder.  ;)
Title: Re: American Horror Story
Post by: The Shocker on December 08, 2011, 09:24:48 AM
Yeah, but it's getting to the point of how many ghosts are in the house?  Like the Black Dahlia?  That just felt like a stunt to me.

And I'm glad you're back even if it is just for this thread.
Title: Re: American Horror Story
Post by: demon gal on December 08, 2011, 09:32:34 AM
Yeah the Black Dahlia was cheesy, there has to be more to that story or it's useless.

I was telling Jor el last week that it would be cool if they killed the family off at the end of the season and brought a new one in next year. He said the same thing, too many ghosts. However not all the ghost come out at once so they can have dozens. I'm thinking Violet will stay so they can have the little teen romace story going but her parents will probably sell the house.

The one thing I'm confused about is Tate. If he knows he's dead and his body is not on the property why is he still there? I though Constance said a few episodes a go that those were the only two reasons the ghosts are there, if they don't know they are dead or their bodies are on the property. Or did I imagine hearing that?
Title: Re: American Horror Story
Post by: The Shocker on December 08, 2011, 09:45:05 AM
I think it is if they die on the property.  Body doesn't have anything to do with it.  The real estate developer was still alive (barely), which is why melt face had to move his body elsewhere.

I do like how Hayden loves being a ghost.  Badass!
Title: Re: American Horror Story
Post by: demon gal on December 08, 2011, 10:00:51 AM
When they built the gazebo and poured concrete over Hayden and Moyra's bodies, remember Moyra started crying and Constance said 'looks like you're stuck here forever' which made me think that once her body is discovered she can move on. I'm confused.  ???
Title: Re: American Horror Story
Post by: The Shocker on December 08, 2011, 10:13:51 AM
Well to me it seems that the show makes up the rules as it goes along.  I'm just going with the easiest explanations and not questioning it too much.  I'm enjoying the show more that way.

Your question brings up one thing though, can the ghosts be released in any way?  I can see that coming up at some point.

What is ghost time like? Slower, faster, the same as living time?

For as pissed off about everything as they were in the land of the living, they sure are okay with the fact that the baby was stolen and whatnot.

I thought the burn guy had some plan for Jessica Lange to pay for her crimes - yet, he's just serving time in prison?
And now they just pass the time.....3 years?
Everyone still gets along in ghost land?

The burn guy wanted off the show (the actor).

He said to his ghost wife that he thinks Constance should pay for what she did but the wife though otherwise, that's why he confessed instead of framing Constance. He's in jail to repent for his family's death.

I hate that the ghosts aren't very haunting; they're too much like the living. I hate when they try to make the show silly because they just make it cringe worthy cheesy instead. Like the whole cutting and shooting each other, seriously WTF??? Whoever writes this stuff sucks at nuances.

It's almost like they show an episode, then get feedback and try to fix all the screw ups the following week which just creates more inconsistencies. The show still has some merits, the dead Violet episode was pretty kick ass but it's hanging by a thread at this juncture.

I definitely don't want this to be the new Love Boat, where the living come and go and Moira is your eternal cruise director.

I just enjoy the trashiness of it.  Low expectations = more enjoyment.

Pretty sure the burn guy actor is going to be back in the next season of Tru-blood.  Maybe why he left?

He was also in some extremely horrible Sandra Bullock/ Ryan Reynolds movie that was on TV last weekend.

They do a pretty good job with his burn make up.

Next season will be entirely new house/story/family. No returning characters.

The show isn't the greatest, but at least it's fun.

I'm intrigued by the anthology idea. A whole new location and story never even crossed my noggin. I was sure they were just going to have a new family move in every season. The Hispanic family last night did throw me for a loop. I was wondering why they would replace all those established actors with complete no names, but then they got chased out.

They offered why the house maid looks diversely in last night time show, as she is seen how the men thinks her to be, or something to that impact. Can't be sure about too much else, as it gets a bit complicated. What is the cope with the used guy again? I cant be sure is he's a spider or whatnot, but if everyones a spider, how can they socialize the way they are with individuals and be seen by all (least Im very sure everyone recognizes them). Some elements need to be 'tied' together soon, and I have trust they will. Maybe they have something excellent up their sleeve for the Halloween weeks time show.

Over the last few days, I've had a family member who watches the show explain the premise of the 1st season and criticize the 2nd season opener. She said if it doesn't improve after the next episode, she wont continue watching. From what little I've gathered, this show sounds kind of retarded ;D.

My theory is that girls like both AHS and TB because they're horror infused with a campy (gay) sensibility.  In a way, it's so over the top that it's less scary.  The thing I don't like about AHS is the look of it.  The film (so to speak) is slightly diffused to make it look old-timey and the sets look cheap.  Jessica is good (as are all the actors) but it's got that breathless OMG-the-religious-people-are-actually-the-craziest-ones-even-know-they-say-they're-the-holy-ones!! POV that was edgy in perhaps the 50s.

we watched ep. 1 season 1 for the first time a couple weeks... we could hardly stop from laughing.

needless to say we didn't check out the rest of the season.

I skipped season 2 and just watched ep1 season 3. I was liking it until the end. Basically, all the witches have the witch powers one would expect and that sets up the story.

...except the main character witch... she makes dude's heads explode when she bones them........

......that's not a witch power that's a TROMA movie.

I'll probably check out the next episode later.
