Title: Chicken & Waffles
Post by: peoplething on January 13, 2014, 07:50:58 AM
where have you been all my life?

I made some last night, first time I had ever even tried the dish. I kept it simple - Belgium waffles from a Trader Joe's Buttermilk Mix Box, fried panko encrusted chicken breast and real maple syrup. I threw some chilli powder in the breading for fun.

I'm sold. The wife isn't so much, but I think I can work with her.

There's a bazillion recipe's on-line and range the entire spectrum from Eggo & KFC to ultra fancy cuisine that chez whitey stole from the black man.

If you haven't tried this, do so - it's delicious.

im totally down, but im a little scared of the maple syrup touching the chicken. if it was a chicken style gravy with mushrooms over the chicken and waffles..im sold.

I'm not into the concept. Supposedly popularized by Harlem musicians who couldn't decide between breakfast and dinner, after the gig. I love fried chicken, and waffles are good. Together? Why?

Because them were smoking those jazz cigarettes?

with my first go around, I really noticed the crunchy texture of the waffles and breading, sweetness of the syrup and the mild chicken flavor that gave it a nice amount of savory. The breasts were skinned, so that may account for the light chicken taste, and except for a dash of chilli powder I didn't use any spices. the breading and waffles absorbed alot of the syrup, so I never really got what I was apprehensive about - a giant wad of meat and syrup, which does sound really gross.

I think that helped me realize the enormous potential of the dish. you could probably do almost anything with this combination flavor wise and have it come out pretty good.

Total deliciousness but you gotta use legs and or thighs.  Salt and pepper in the flour before dredging and slow fry.  maple syrup mixes perfectly with it all.  Sweet and salty.  A rare meal because it ain't exactly clean eating.

I'd rather have mashed potatoes, collard greens, macaroni & cheese, corn bread, sweet potatoes, french fries, biscuits, corn on the cob, dirty rice, etc etc on the side.

"I could really go for some waffles with this" I said never.

Did you finally reach your spicy Thai food dreams? I never found out.

my new fave place is pretty damn good, I think I mentioned them in the Thai thread.  they make everything insanely hot and bring Thai chiles (whole) by the dozen or so on command.  I sweat, my nose runs, I am happy as hell, and they are tipped generously.  but like your favorite porn, you know that somewhere out there there's something even better

See now, I would forego the gravy in favor of the syrup to get that sweet and salty.

I would let my fat gut think outside the box and add syrup to that to get the sweet, salty, savory and calories

You are a sick man. If you lived here, Pine State Biscuits wouldn't have gone out of business. Look into it.

For me, this is a total fail: I don't eat chicken; I don't like waffles.

after a lmgtfm session, I clicked on their Guy Fieri clip and they put maple syrup IN THE MOTHERFUCKING SAUSAGE GRAVY!

so yeah, more than likely I would've kept them afloat

It's really rosemary flavored which I love, those green thing are fried leek strips. Maple syrup is the best thing in the world and goes great if it accidentally gets on some fried chicken. Like a fucking McNugget.

A waffle is some bread. I see bacon on there.

You're missing the mise-en-scene,  you would go on an adventure to eat this at the Imperial Palace hung over at 9:45am on a Wednesday after waking up with your lady in Vegas.

We had to wait for 88 minutes so it was brunch but you can drink bloody Mary's for the first hour and watch the celebrity look alike dealers and then go upstairs for the last half hour and wait with the fat people.

it's really rosemary flavored?  for reals?  cuz with half a bush worth sticking out of it, everything within a five-block radius is gonna be rosemary flavored for a week
