Title: City on a Hill
Post by: jmucke on August 20, 2019, 05:05:04 PM
Best Wire-episodes that Dennis Lehane never wrote. Great dialogue and acting (Kevin Bacon is having a ball and owns pretty much every scene he is in). The story is a bit predictable and I was a bit sceptical at first (corrupt cops and Irish gangsters in 90s Boston) but it all develops nicely.

I respectively disagree on all of the above. The whole premise seemed interesting at first...but the story lines are disjointed, lack depth..and the boston schemes (accents/depictions) mostly feel forced. Bacon is pretty solid, but I lost interest after 2 to 3 episodes and have not returned. Too bad, seemed promising but did very little for me (and I live in Boston). Also, this show could not touch The Wire's used condoms. The quality of writing and execution is galaxies apart.

Of course its not as good as The Wire. Nothing touches The Wire. But it works for me like Ozark works for me - despite being a total Breaking Bad-rip off.
