Written by the drummer of Semisonic (That godawful Closing Time song)
Great read. Not only a snapshot of the major label music industry 20 years ago, but also why being on a major is not all its cracked up to be.
Documents their 8 year rise and fall. His observations and inner dialogue commentary are hilarious and endlessly entertaining.
Highly recommend it. Even if you didn't like them at all then or now.

Saw the reviews of this so I took the plunge - it's fun to read the prior state of the music industry prior to where it is now. Good stuff.
I don't think that Closing Time song is that bad.
*blushes*
Good Night Sweetheart
Last Dance
Closing Time
Here are two others - can you name them? The Semisonic guys were the Trip Shakespere guys plus the dude that wrote this book on drums, so far very entertaining.
That was the only song of Semisonic I'd ever heard, so was extra interesting reading this book knowing literally nothing about them.
Definitely a how/why on why you should never go with a major label.
I guess the first album flopped and the second one with Closing Time was the big rocking hit. I am about half way done and Closing Time is poised to rocket up the chart.
I didn't know that they released multiple radio format specific mixes of the same hit song. One would be hard rocking, more dancing, more alternative..... No fucking way!
Finished. Poor Semisonic.

you read half a book in the time it took you to post that? no way!
Yes. Also, you quoted in a thread in the most slow moving thread on this website cause why? You could type that in December in the exact same slot.
