Thinking about getting one that's an "easy-play".

$59 worth about $479 in today's money, according to this inflation calculator (i estimated the date of the ad to be 1967).

The $199 "bass package" with amp cost about $1589 in today's money, and the amp was probably not very good.

So this happened today:

Was going to the shop to get an update on my Showman combo.

Have rehearsals by end of month and gigs next month I'll need a combo amp for.

Saw this. Tried it. Liked it. They let it go for $475 :D

Early 80s Artist 4203 30w 1x12 combo w/V30. Tube power section, hybrid SS/tube preamp.

Will be using it as a clean pedal platform. But holy shit the gain channel is tits! \m/,

Cool. Nice score. I've got the head version 3203 and also love the diode clipping front end. I'd kinda rather have the combo, the head is wider (by the looks of it?), takes up more space than I like.

This isn't mine but I saved the pic because of the patching. What does that do? Let us know!

Looks like that jumps together the effects loop.

I'll have to try that...

I've already pulled the chassis (twice) and clipped out C13 to darken the tone a bit.

Ordered a NOS Mullard 12at7 meant for my JCM800, but I'll try it on this guy first (lower gain phase inverter tube)

And this one came with a V30. Stock speaker is a G-75, which if this amp had I may not have gotten it...

Edit: the stock speaker is actually a G12-65 which according to a reliable source sounded quite nice. But I am a V30 guy, so...

A Harmony, like the $59 one, from Montgomery Wards was my first guitar.

Lumpy

Sears and Wards sold a lot of guitars after the Beatles got popular. I think Global and Silvertone were department store brands too.

I bought one of those old tulip style guitars a few years ago, it was pretty terrible. If I was a better guitar player, maybe I could have made it work for me, but no. My cheap Squiers were much better guitars.

Vinyls.   deal.

RAGER

I think Airline was Monkey Wards.
No Focus Pocus

Lumpy

Silvertone had a guitar with the amp built into the guitar case. Genius! Why didn't that catch on?

it would be good for street musicians. not so much for playing clubs.

Got this sonofabitch out of the trash pile at the studio, had no speakers but the amp works. It's actually a bastardized combo, as this originally would have had a 134 amp in it, and the 150 is a standalone head, the only major difference between them being the number on the front.

Jumped on a BOGO on some Jensen's and now all that's left is some wiring.

I'm slowly growing quite the ACC collection, I'm up to 3 heads, 2 cabs and now this combo.... (Plus a full stable of other amps)

What is that thing? 4x10 bass? Are those spankin' new cones? Will it record

James1214

Actually, it's a guitar combo with 10s. And it is absolutely brand new speakers, the amp has reverb and tremolo on the second channel. I'll see about doing some kind of recording once it's all up and running and broken in.

Thanks. Good luck with it. Not optimisitic, frankly. The 10's will need at least 250 hours on them. Would you use a differnt amp for the break in? I would. A cheap D amp might do. Wild guess.

Muffin man, not optimistic about what in particular?

I break in my speakers using my 5 watt Hotone Vox AC clone, play riffs up and down the neck on my looper and run it face down on the floor for 30-40 hours over the course of a week, that's all I've ever done. Has worked a treat the half a dozen times I've done it.
