Title: The Babadook
Post by: Dylan Thomas on April 18, 2015, 02:03:54 PM
Who has seen this?  There ain't too many quality horror movies that I dig on these days, though I dug the hell out of this one.  Really well made, great atmosphere and pacing, and extremely creepy without being at all graphic.  Legitimately disturbing and unnerving, and a deeply metaphoric commentary on the depths of human emotion.  Five stars from me.

I wanted to kick that kid, so he ruined the movie for me.

This involves spoiler territory.....

But once you realize that the mom is fucking nuts and probably abusive, that annoying child becomes sympathetic, in my opinion.  Because his mother is fucking terrifying and crazy and is probably beating him.  It's a disturbing film to watch, particularly as a parent.

I liked The Babadook but thought it was somewhat overrated.  It Follows is my favorite recent horror movie.
