Title: van halen - a different kind of truth
Post by: stooge on June 13, 2015, 10:58:58 AM
the more i listen to it the more i like it
the first 3 songs are among the best van halen ever did in my book
especially "you and your blues" - that is a true hit
the whole thing is a bit too long like most records nowadays but i like this better than anything they did after "1984"
and better than "diver down"
i know most songs are reworked old demos from the 70s and early 80s
but maybe that´s why they´re so good

now I HAVE to listen to this, based solely on the outlandishness of your remarks

Didn't this come out two years ago?  After Tattoo it's actually surprisingly ok.

Three years ago, according to this youtube clip that I'm not especially enjoying (Feb 2012).

There are more bad Van Halen records than there are good Van Halen records: discuss.

everything since OU812 is shit.  OU812 is their Mendoza line.

based on that, I don't know if you're right or wrong cuz I'm too lazy to go and count the pre and post

Women and Children First (1980)
Fair Warning (1981)
Diver Down (1982)
1984 (1984)
5150 (1986)
OU812 (1988)
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991)
Balance (1995)
Van Halen III (1998)
A Different Kind of Truth (2012)

You are correct sir.  The first 6 are golden.  The next two are not bad, but nowhere near the first 6.

Fair Warning is the last good album.

Everything after that is varying levels of a "different kind of sucking ass."

I like me Diver Down.  Nothing wrong at all with that album - don't care that is has a bunch of cover songs - it still fucking great.

I just checked "1984" again. I only like a couple songs... Hot for Teacher and Panama, which are great, but there's a lot of filler on there too.

Their albums have tons of filler. Greatest Hits only.

there is not one single note of filler on 1984, and perhaps only a handful of filler notes in the albums previous put together.

you should be ashamed of yourself for even dreaming of thinking otherwise

sorry but diver down sucks
the first 2 songs are ok and intruder is nice but only a minute long fling
everything else is terrible
and mjs, there is no good van halen best of
all existing 3 have way too much van hagar and too many essential songs missing

Agreed.   1984 is solid all the way through.
