Title: Recommend me a new OD/distortion pedal
Post by: tossom on December 11, 2010, 06:31:25 AM
Hi guys, looking for a bit of help here.

Playing in a band again for first time in years, now playing much heavier stuff and thinking I need to get some new gear. The pedal I have at the moment is a Marshall bluesbreaker 2, looking to replace it with something with a bit more gain.

I own one of these -

However, due to the really shitty on off switch it is really only useful for recording with.  Plus its pretty old so is really noisy!  Love the sound of it though, has a 12AX7 tube in it - really versatile pedal.  Not looking for full on fuzz, use fenders mainly so like to keep a bit of bite for the back pickups.

Budget is about £100 ($160).

Hell yes!  The Dean can do a passable immitation of that sound.  Nice pedals, but looking for something a bit brighter.  My brother is telling me to buy a blackstar pedal, anyone heard of them?  UK based, says he knows a lot of guys in Glasgow scene using them.

Must admit I am impressed by it.

Zvex Box of Rock works for me and it also has a great boost. I also love the Keeley modded RAT.

BYOC rat has done me proud. Quite a versatile pedal if your handy with a soldering iron.

For all around heavy I really like the Way Huge Fat Sandwich...it can get deep and heavy but a little nasty as well. You can dial it in to work with just about anything too. The Keeley Rat is also pretty awesome. For really modern sounding high gain the zoom tri-metal was discontinued but still easy to find. The Suhr Riot is the hottest high gain boutique pedal but I wasn't all that impressed with mine.
