Stoked
Peter Grant is too thin.
Was entertaining I am looking forward to more,
Really enjoyed it....I thought Dice ruled!!!!
A bit over the top, but I dug it, and I'm ready for more.....hopefully more of Juno's tittays as well :P
Agreed.
Dice was awesome.
A bit over the top - hopefully slows up a bit.
I liked it a lot more on the second viewing. They have to dance around the Walk Hard moments 'you're Robert Plant from the Led Zeppelin. Hello Robert Plant from the Led Zeppelins'.
Wait till they figure out no one wants to buy punk rock
Julia and I saw Bobby Cannivale on Broadway (with Chris Rock) in 'The Motherfucker with The Hat' he stole the show, and won a Tony for it.
Great opener.

I like Bobby, I thought he was really good in Blue Jasmine......Dice was in that too and was also good.
Doesn't work or flow..maybe will have to watch again. Choppy and having a hard time with the period piece meets fiction...wish it was more a dramatization that was based more on factual events, rather than skewing the timeline for sake of "entertainment"
It's just not that good
Agreed, I thought that the first time but when I watched it again with lower expectations it was better.
Plus, Olivia Wilde.

I'm the complete opposite, the like the fiction interweaved with facts a lot. But a real storyline has to develop, so far its been mostly character-introductions.

It was only the pilot......it's Terrence Winter & Scorsese....I have hope
of course they crammed all the 70s into 1973 they always do that
they did that on boardwalk empire too and wrote in like every mobster that ever existed in the 1920s US
i can somehow understand that though
It's not bad. As others mentioned, it gets over the top and excessive.
Then again, Winter always goes all in and can get excessive. I felt that's why Boardwalk Empire collapsed under its own weight. Hopefully Winter learned his lesson.
I still think it should been a mini-series like Scorsese first mentioned what it was going to be.
MEH
2nd episode was good....not great....still over the top & why the "cameo musical guests?" I can't figure that one out.
Still good.
Silly
But good.
as a rock nerd i´ll definitely keep watching this but i also can not really understand why they chose 73
i mean setting it in like 76 would have made a lot more sense they still could have used led zep and bell bottoms and all but the whole thing about discovering punk and upcoming hip hop would have been a bit more accurate and less misplaced
Right, why 73?
Sucks. Ham fisted BS.
Ha Ha - I agree.
Three words;
Mick Jagger.
Ridiculous. The show is good. Stop now.
To be fair I have never seen it as I don't have cable or satellite reception in my StonerRock home because I'm a Rebel*
*cheap
I would bet you would find at least some of it likeable. Besides the titties.
I just told my remote control to play Vinyl episode two on HBO and then the TV played it
Haha Velvets band was bad.

Killer suggestion, stooge.
I have a blu-ray that does the Amazon, Netflix, HULU and stuff, but I will certainly look into the places you suggested.
Thanks!
I would watch something good before this silly show.
The Warhol stand-in was just terrible. If they're going to portray famous rock stars then they need to give us informed characterizations. They are all poorly done so far.
The punk band Nasty Bits? They could easily have made real songs for them to play. Those songs are awful.
I like the first 'crowd riot' song when Blondie first sees them though.
Pretty trite approach at 1973. I'll probably keep watching but it's pretty stupid now. I mean the "Nasty Bits" doesn't inspire any danger and the approach is bordering on offensively vanilla when you consider the bands they're supposed to be paralleling. Clearly they're going to homogenize and crowbar in some kind of stupid hip-hop element to all of this which I'm sure will be just as vanilla and fucking stupid too.
Alice Cooper can really hold a grudge.

agreed
it is real silly with all that punk and even hip hop already happening in 73
when that guy was djing i was thinking "please don´t start scratching now"
they shhold have set it in like 76
would have made much more sense

I thought last night's episode was the best one yet....and I have been on the fence about the show even though I like it and not critiquing as hard as our beloved MJS. I thought the guy who played Alice did a good job.
Crispin Glover should have played Warhol though.
Silly.
I'll just keep watching Musikladen/Beat Club/Midnight Special/Old Grey Whistle Test.

just google ("watch ____ online free")
usually putlocker and vidbull work best
you have to click a loads of ads away but finally you´ll get to the stream
not all of them work though sometimes you gotta try a few til you succeed
Okay, Alice Cooper was introduced ala "Dewey Cox".
The Julie A&R character is a damn annoying cartoonish person. But at least they put an Olivia Wilde tit in every episode.
Can you tell your remote control to fast-forward to the titties?

True, and we saw how much of a dumbass he is, and how he almost ruined it for the Nasty Bits

They sure know how to party
This show is BAD

Haven't watched this latest episode yet but.... I can see it being worse before it's better.

Yes, and since it's in one of the descriptions about the show, it shouldn't be surprising.
I'm not sure what you expected, but I think it's done a pretty decent job of portraying a record company in '73.
I expected more and I'm not sure why you're offended. I don't like it, no big deal.
I stopped recording The Apocolypse and Angie Tribecca.

1) I'm not offended at all. 2) Expected more? Like..
I believe the Buck Rogers shitmismgonna catch up to Ritchie, and then season over. Hopefully green lit for another season, would like to see it expand more....not sold on it uet, but I do care about the characters i guess.

The addition of Richie's father, who I loved as Richie on Sopranos, is fantastic.
And tortured Ray Romano.
Other than that....
...Olivia Wilde!
Eh, this show is a hate watch, though I want to find something to like.

...Like a better show. I am just not into it. I could revisit if I saw a good write up of the season or something but I don't think I will be going back. Admittedly I didn't get all that into boardwalk empire then got obsessed with it after rewatching it later as well as Deadwood is my favorite show ever. So you see I'm not opposed to partially fictionalization dramas and I like the lead in vinyl I just think it's just not grabbing me.
I bailed after the third, fourth episode? It was the worst thing a show can be - boring.
bobby cannavale´s overacting really gets worse and worse
i know he´s playing a full on coke head sliding deeper and deeper into the drug abyss but still..
it´s really getting silly
romano is surprisingly good though
and at least olivia wilde went full nude last episode
This last episode I thought was amazing...Olivia Wilde full on nude...bush and all. I loved that Ritchie is seeing dead people. Mick Jaggers' kid having to find another guitarist and Ray fucking Romano and David Fucking Bowie! Best episode yet.

Jail and suspense
good it is just a mini series though
and Jagger jr got his acting talent from his dad
he is terrible

I agree Jagger Jr kinda sucks.
Now Richie has the mob on his side......not a good thing
Jagger Jr is great.
This show finds its voice only with a sober Richie. Some of the supporting cast is just terrible - like Leslie.
Jagger jr is supporting cast
His acting is as good as dee dee ramone's
It's a great drunkwatch, but that Nasty Bits band is comically bad and utter shite.
You spelled shit wrong, damn autocorrect
HBO shitcanned the show runner, and thank God. Maybe the missteps will go away if it gets a second season.
Winter has been let go from his showrunning duties on the Bobby Cannavale-starring '70s musical drama, with the network citing "creative differences" for the change.
Onya!
Shite - as in the english-bloke vernacular. Fuck MJS thought you were more fake-worldly intellectual than that. Shite.
Whoa at least a threesome ...
Good stuff...
Bobby Cannavale sober
Ray Romano
The Merkin!
The Coney Island scene
Bad stuff...
All the classic rock remakes- absolutely horrid
Bobby Cannavale snorting coke like it's soaked in rocket fuel
Mick Jagger's son- almost ruins the show
Mick Jagger's son playing a part-time-junkie
Mick Jagger's involvement, which adds authenticity
The direction- we don't need to see the background music, especially when it sucks
[Ugh, I could go on]
That said, we are kinda hooked in a soap opera way. Neither of us really likes it, but we still watch it.
The whole murder sub-plot is annoying. The mobster loan - this show should focus on the music industry insider stuff, how records get made and promoted. Why is Richie in jail for murder, rather than something more central to the story line (running amuck)?
The gambling thing?
Ingred and Olivia Wilde's scenes together are awful but sexy.
I hate that new photographer character.
Why the fuck do you assholes watch the show if you have so many complaints? You guys are worse than a female on her period.
Yeah

I need something to watch when I'm not watching Mad Max Fury Road.
Also, there's this:
Russell: Well, why am I watching it?
George: Because it's on TV.
I will not tolerate hate speech about the period thing, that we are never ever to mention. I read it in an important book.
You are going on block for the next 106 days. I will speak to you on July 28.
Why do you guys hate Jagger Jr? Just to be mean.
The scenes with him and Jaimie are pretty great. Jamie (the blonde chick) is playing the Peggy from Mad Men role in this show.
Maybe the new show runner will fix all the sore spots and develop the characters a bit better

Jagger Jr is a horrible actor. I'm not buying him in that role at all.
This Vanity Faire article is onto something.

that last episode was ridiculous
or actually annoying
silly storyline and jagger jr at his worst so far
he hit an all-time low
good thing is he will never be seen again on the screen unless jagger sr is involved
the show started alright but got worse from episode to episode

I can't say that I'm surprised—despite the promising historical subject matter, they pretty much blew it.
Bright side: At least we won't have to watch "Richie" do his stupid Tony Montana coke-snorting impression EVER AGAIN.
The show had such potential to be awesome and they seemed to blow it at every turn
The domineering female character added a little life to the show - but that murder/mafia thing just derailed it.
Plus, it wasn't focused enough on the music and his label's focus finding on the next big authentic new thing (punk rock, disco) didn't get to drive the plot like it should have, since we never saw it happen/fail.
Quote from: bbottom on June 28, 2016, 06:22:33 PM

exactly they blew it big time
plus they burned a lot of money
this and the fact way too few were watching made that an easy decision for the new boss at the hbo drama departement
I think they probably just couldn't think of any way to salvage such a terrible piece of shit in a second season.
right
we should all be glad
otherwise we´d have to watch jagger jr. getting successful with his band
and richie and that silly a&r discovering synth pop, thrash+speed metal and techno all in 1974
He was discovering Disco.
I'm kinda glad it's done... I always watched it, but never really enjoyed it.
Vinyl my ass!!
word!
Should have done another season, at the very least.
