Title: Terrible songs with cool riffs/parts
Post by: bbottom on April 26, 2016, 06:53:48 PM
This song could be so awesome, if it weren't for the lyrics. And usually I can ignore lyrics for a really kickass riff. But they are just so dumb in this song that I can't.

Another stupid song. In fact it's so stupid most people have probably never payed attention to what an insane bass line it has

The lyrics are quite as stupid as "Strut"....but man are they close

Holy shit the footloose bassline is actually pretty sick.  That walking part is pretty sweet.  This isn't a terrible song @ all but I always thought the smoke on the water bassline in the rest of the song where he isn't chugging roots is actually really damn cool and no one ever mentions it.

As far as terrible songs with cool parts the below one has a great bassline and its truly a terrible song.

Always thought the intro to this one was cool, but didn't at all fit the song.

heh. awww. all my favorite songs.

I think long cool woman is one of the coolest songs ever written, the whole thing
hocus pocus is a gadget song for sure. you need to watch a video. those guys are funny and seriously talented, and it is totally in fun when you see it.
black betty is an old song they covered. the ramjam version is a hard drivin' song. that tone is great on the lead guitar.

so I do actually like those 3 songs

the rest, meh.

also when hocus pocus happens, the safety dance has to also happen.

....they're a set.

A totally retarded song from an otherwise cool record

This has one of the dumbest choruses ever but it's still pretty catchy

I always wondered whatever the hell possessed Mekong Delta with this totally out-of-place chorus  ???

^ it does make you wonder what was happening. I suspect 2nd choices to fill an album due to running out of time or motivation to keep on writing, but maybe they liked it.

IDK if it rates as being better or worse, but here is another version of black betty. it is less complex, but plenty of energy. also the video is most excellent. I could watch this 1000 times and still laugh at that deer laughing

also...the twins .....

What's wrong with "Her Strut"? Song about strippers (I don't know all the lyrics). Need clarification.

Gonna catch a lot of flack for this, but the guitar lick in Party in the USA is pretty slick

Apparently the producer is actually a rock fan and decent guitarist, so he threw in this lick and it was the base of the song. something along those lines. Shes brutally shit though

I stopped at :21, but I can understand why you may like that guitar part.

My choice is Whale, Hobo Humpin Slobo Babe.  I actually kinda liked the song, but many on here will hate it.
I like the main bass riff that drives the song. Pretty cool.

I've tried five times and can't get the Youtube link. Sorry.

After pasting the URL, delete the S from the HTTPS. That's the secret!

I remember that song because MTV used to play it.

Take the violins and vocals out of this piece of shit and it's pretty rad.

But, that begs the question... Is that video worse than this one?

Maybe the two worst videos ever.  The second one made me hate Journey forever... I told the DJ at my wedding that if he played Journey he wasn't getting paid.

Love the riffs but everything else is sorta meh.
