We were killing it last night. Just nailed this doom song's atmosphere. Dripping with mood and damn near hypnotizing. Heavy as fuck.
Then the drummer says, "dude, that was too damn slow." And the bassist is like, "yeah, I almost fell asleep playing that."
That feel when you realize your boys don't get it :'(
Play something even slower. Then the original slow thing won't seem so slow ;)

morte lenta. let those guys know they are both on notice.
ya I get that too
or
its not complicated enough
...ya, thats the point, I like it slow and simple :) Im not wanting to play for an audience full of musicians, just an audience of people that wanna have fun
primitive is something my band strives for. its harder than you think.
make those two read Victor Wooten's book, The Music Lesson
personally I believe in serving the song. the only thing would be to establish what exactly the team goal is for the evening.
Then there is no whining or crying once you are in it.
and yes, subtractive musical statements are next level and not instinctive at all WRT one's ego.
I also strive more for simplicity these days. Not trying to impress anyone, just trying to write a damn good song.
All this time I thought the drummer couldn't keep time. Turns out he just thought all our songs should be mid-tempo. ::)

I have taken to buying a copy, reading it, giving it to someone else, buying another, repeat.
And simplicity is s very important thing. This coming from a guy who runs an instrumental space rock band haha
Simple complexity > complexity for its own sake

Heard a great quote from a 60s hit writer that went along the lines of, "the better song writer can communicate the same thing in simpler words."
Really changed my approach.
"Notes are very expensive, and you shouldn't use them unless you absolutely HAVE to."
Along the same lines. Both great pieces of advice.

You are probably playing with the wrong people. How slow is the song though? These days some doom is too slow even for me.
interesting question. what would it take to write the slowest song ever??
hit the opening chord and let it ring out for all eternity before you hit the next chord.

how far can you throw a powered monitor? this is directly proportional to how long you can sustain.
i can sustain forever, once the chord decays into feedback it will continue on and i still consider the feedback to be the chord technically speaking.
haha. remember that flaming asshole sunnO))) dude ?albini? had a hissy fit and threw a monitor?
Well anyway, the point was really: Been done!!!......presented in my usual nebulous clown fashion
or: He would be the guy that set the bar of boredom pretty damn high.
point is he failed because his song ended a long time ago. if i do this, its all ill do till my death, which would technically be the end of the song.

Technically, the "song" would end after your death, unless your gear magically died at the same time.
Or the power went out.

Mebbe could use a jibberish-designed motorcycle battery chain for backup?
