Haha there will be more soon. I haven't posted much because I'be been both busy and too broke to buy any new gear.  I'm back working a job where I'll be near a computer three days a week to troll the shit out of this place (or just talk about gear I can't afford).

Awhile back I heard an NPR (Maybe this American Life) program about the guy who wrote that Happy Days episode.

20 years later he thinks it's still a good episode.

I could kick myself in the nuts for not playing guitar before I was 17. Looking back, reflecting, I passed up SO much nice shit just due to pure ignorance. That little checkmate amp included. There was one sitting the in basement at my Papa's house, in Pennsylvania. We ended up throwing it out because it sounded shitty when we played music (albums) through it. Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb. I wonder how bad the frets on that Tiesco are...

After your Yamaha thread, I've been seriously thinking about snagging one of these:

noooo, have you looked at Guitarfetish's SG2000 knockoff?

Granted, it's a hundred dollars more, but it's probably 30X the quality...

someone pointed something out to me once about those guitars that made me leery (was it on here maybe?): look at where the neck meets the body, i can't see the picture because i'm at work, but i remeber it being pretty high up on the neck . . .

Yes, sure have.  Those Xavieres are semi-hollow, right?  Will probably get one or the other at some point, depending on finances.  The Jay Tursers are really nice for the price though & probably built in the same factory (or one down the street) as the Xavieres.
Title: Re: Jam Room has Jumped The Shark
Post by: VOLVO))) on June 14, 2011, 11:27:32 AM
It is chambered, didn't notice that.

Is what sold me on it, if I get anything that looks remotely like that...

Even still, same factory, or not, I'm going to buy this to feed my need for semi-hollow. Unless I happen upon a guild starfire for under a grand. Major fanboi.

I can't decide between the lemon drop or the sunburst...
Title: Re: Jam Room has Jumped The Shark
Post by: VOLVO))) on June 14, 2011, 11:36:58 AM
I'm on a "want traditional looking guitars" kick, so I'd go for the sunburst. Dunno what it is, Trying to sell off my shredder guitars because they're inherently useless to me now just makes me want to own a LP, and a semi-hollow... and a strat... and a hollowbody... and some more SGs, and probably an EHX Cathedral reverb, and the 18 inch tom I'm going to use as a kick drum...

man. I. am. fucked.

it might be cheaper to look for a p90 epiphone? but i don't know.

plus, accoridng to the ebay listing, the jay turser is 25.5 scale. not sure if that matters to you?
Title: Re: Jam Room has Jumped The Shark
Post by: The Shocker on June 14, 2011, 12:01:11 PM
That definitely matters, but it's got to be a misprint.  Everything I've read is that it's a LP DC copy, can't see it being 25.5.  That is a deal breaker - just can't bond with 25.5 scale for some reason...

I don't think there will really be an influx of crazies, there's a lot of good people over there, but I think their "gear" forum is largely neglected because it doesn't share the original name, which is totally cool. It's their site. I just told them to bring it on over here, if they have real questions about equipment...

Getting "trolled hard" seems unlikely given their traffic levels. You might catch a tiny trotline lazily gliding past though   :P

Yeah. Inquiring minds want to know if that's speaker or instrument cable he's using. Also, does straight vs. right angle jacks make a difference when shooting up?

And what about curly cords? Would they work in a pinch?

Finally, what's the best bait to land a BJ from a chick like that one there?

All you need to do to get a hummer from that chick is to roll into a Daytona strip club at 2am in your corvette with a shit load of coke. I think it's also in her rider that you blast White Snake while she's blowing you.

I'm willing to bet a trans-am would do the trick. If I'm driving a corvette I at least expect stilletto heels and a catsuit.

Jake, they're not too far from you (or me)...

If I had some money to play with right now, I would totally buy both! I love that old Teisco/Harmony stuff. There's a great Checkmate head that has a great clean and an awesome Tremolo with a light that blinks with the rate. I just dig how alot of those old guitars and amps had weird features. Some of them sound killer too.

I think my Dad has a teisco variant guitar, it is badged "Audition".  3/4 scale, wrap around bridge and one single coil pickup. I am after a Zenta amp to partner it in terms of glorious shitness!   8)
