In the market to buy a new one. Price doesn't matter as long as it's not too absurd. Initially I'm looking for a tonebener of sorts, mk1 or 2 or a fuzz rite knock off.
Suggestions?
i think others will also beat this to death but
pharaoh
pharaoh
pharaoh
if ur contemplating anything muff
This pedal doesn't sound like what you're after but I think more people should try the Bazz Fuss out. It is a ridiculously simple and inexpensive pedal but gets the job done great IMO.

P.S. It works well for guitar too.
one mans absurd is another mans affordable..
I'm usually not tryna spend more than $150 on ANY pedal, though I did go up to $200 on one in my arsenal. Most times though, $50-$60 is my limit.
I'm set on muff sound for now. Price range is give or take $200. Seriously, besides the Sola sound mk1 and 2 who else makes them with quality?

So you looking into a FF type circuit and the Tonebender shit which is close. I dont think Mark has one on the market yet. I think Creepy Fingers makes something in that range
If you want non-Muff, vintage fuzz tones the Skinpimp Buzzaround is pretty awesome. There's a lot of Supa Fuzz and that like clones out there some for big bucks with period correct parts but some reasonable alternatives out there as well. Brad from Creepy Fingers is also always coming up with cool stuff and I've heard even does custom jobs if you have one in mind.
Jerms and a few others off the DAM board make amazing Tonebenders.

Dang, I bought one from them less than 6 months ago in the color I wanted. Maybe email them to see when they'd be back in stock (or not)?
How much is the pharaoh fuzz?
Well worth the price.^^^ Swiss Army Muff, plus it works as a booster, etc. An instant classic.
Hrmmmmm, the pharaoh fuzz is more suited for my sound. I do still want to get my hands on a tonebender eventually.

check around on forums and the bay, pick up a used one
I see used Pharaohs for 125 shipped. I also see a Sound Shank (buzzaround clone) for 125 shipped. Check out I Love Fuzz dot com, there's a good classifieds there, or harmony-central dot com, ditto.
Heck, if you buy a Pharoh, you'll practically get a Muff and a Tonbender/Fuzz Face in the same pedal!!!

This is one of the best sounding fuzz pedals I have heard. It has some bells and whistles that I wouldnt use much, but the Fuzz is worth the price of admission.

Definitely want a review.
Yeah, i'll run her thru the ringers this weekend.
Also ended up grabbing a Devi Ever Torns Peaker.
I've been fuzzless since sometime around 2005 when I gave up my Muffs. Don't know why I had the sudden urge to grab them, probably because I'm playing guitar rather than bass more and more nowadays.
How's the Torns Peaker? I have the schematic and i've been thinking about cloning it, but I want to get a recommendation before I sink time and money into a build.
I finished a byoc Univox super fuzz clone last night. Only $75. Made it to Wattson Classic Electronics specs (only a couple resistor/cap differences). Instant Fu Manchu / Electric Wizard.

Woah, I always wanted a Super Fuzz. Wish I could build my own pedals, been wanting to jump into it but right now I'm putting $ and time into a Telecaster build.
I'll let ya know what I think of the Torns, I should be getting it today.
I'll post up some clips if I can.
The Tone Machine Clone is pretty fuggin sweet.
The Torns Peaker is kind of a one trick pony but still kinda cool.
I only tried them for guitar so far. Now I need to rework my pedalboard.
I'll try and throw up some clips if I get around to recording this weekend.
My want for a Super Fuzz still hasn't gone away.
I don't want to spend the loot for an original or even the Wattson.
I'd try and build a byoc if I had the time to put into it.
The superfuzz is an essential fuzz to anyone pedal. Regardless, if it's the original or a clone. They seem to have gone up about $100 since the last time I browsed ( old sr.com days). Seriously, $550?!!!?!?!?
I got me one o dem guyatone mini fuzzes from Ol Deaner, i dig that thing. Super-fuzz as fux.
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
I like those little ladybug, pudding cup looking enclosures.
Those Guyatone TZ-2 "the fuzz" they are nice, nasty fuzzes. I like the superfuzz clones because I like a lot of gravelly texture. "Smooth" fuzz is mostly 'meh' for me.
I'm really starting to think about spending all that cash on a Wattson but at that point I want a blue and orange enclosure.
Yo, can I getta sweet looking clone. What do Riffer's customs cost. Or should I go to the Fu Manchu guy?

Hey, fuck you! Let me build the BYOC one, and find/fashion a funky enclosure... EH EH?
EDIT: Seriously, don't buy that overpriced shit.
:) I'm down Jake
Just dont blow your money on something for a similar cosmetic appearance. That always makes me sad.

yeah, I know. they do sound good but I'm sure another clone could cop the sound just as well.
Hell, you could probably talk Nick into building the shit out of one... that goofy bastard could do it for less than the wattson and it'd probably more true to the Shin Ei than the Univox...
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
That's exactly why I threw it out here. Not tryna spend no $200 on a lil metal box.
for custom shit where I have to make the PCBs for the pedal I charge 150 + ship, if the boards already exist and can be bought cheaply then 75-125 depending upon the pedal

that superfuzz circuit is large, 5 transistors. If i do a turret board then im going to charge the labor for a handwired unit.

plus I can do whatever mods you want, including that clean boost Wattson has on their version
if 2 other people will buy a 2 more boards I can lower the board cost and other can build their own version.
I am a smidge busy right now fuck ton of projects but its possible in a lil while.
If board cost is lowered I could get you at $100
Yeah, that is definitely another plus. I probably need it to be usable for bass & guitar also.
Sounds good. Lemme know when you're not swamped and I'm in.
In the meantime... WHO NEED DAT SUPERFUZZ? Got da Dunwich hook up for ya!

nice
while we're talking about pedals I can't afford...
I need a reverb. Jake how you feel about that Cathedral? That's the overpriced one I've been eyeing.
At $220 it's not really that much of a jump to the Strymon everyone on the internet keeps hyping.
I think with a SuperFuzz, good reverb & good phaser my pedalboard will be complete. I just have to figure out which pedals I'm currently using aren't going to make the cut.
I love my Cathedral. It sounds so very gorgeous. My only gripe? Too many features and not enough footswitches.
It has so much I wanna use, but it isnt too switchable on the fly. The freeze is a great noise maker. It's on 100% of the time.
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Yeah, I kinda feel like I'd be overwhelmed/intimidated by the Cathedral or Strymon.
But I still think more options are better than less when it comes to modulation.
One thing about the Strymon I like is it has a favorite footswitch on the other hand Cathedral has tap.
at least I think I know what phaser I want.

V4 so ur right on zee money.
Not to get off topic but can someone tell me a little about fuzz wah's? A guy near me has a Jimi Hendrix fuzz wah and was wondering if it was worth trading my modded Vox V847 wah?
The only fuzz wah i ever played on was the morely. They are alright, better off picking a fuzz and picking a wah if you ask me though
