Isn't there a Vikings thread yet? I am casually watching this but it seems it deserves more attention - you like? The main guy is making this worth watching.
No response? Best motherfucking show on cable TV right now - I am enamoured by it, even
opening credits/tunage is mindblowing...cannot wait for tonite's episode.
Superbly written, live action camera - FUCK CGI!....this show has potential.
It has Vikings and beards and swords and limb hacking - all the stuff you guys only like.
Finally got through all 9 - this got better as it went along and I hope it comes back for Season II
Couple of the characters - Ragnar, the weird guy with the eye makeup, his kid, the wife, the evil brother, the kings... were really well done. I liked this a lot and recommend it.
This is awesome, easily what I look forward to the most on TV alongside Game of Thrones

I fucking love this show.
What no love? Great Season II Opener IMO.
we just started the first season. I dig it, but I might be the only one that finishes it. we just watched the episode where the vikings show up in england and kill all the priests. that plus the evil brother raping the slave girl made my wife say 'I don't know if I like this show'.
to which I replied '.....uh...they're vikings - that's what they did'
and apparently the evil brother is a doppelganger of mine.
Great stuff people's....yeah, I find the actors extra righteous in this scenario of Viking madhatters...
...and it is Vikings as it were, interesting to see the dynamic of all involved.
Rgardless, very well done show IMO....
Need to get on this!
I really liked the first season, but the jury is out on the next one (so far). I wasn't overly taken with SO2EO1.
Very bloody. Is the historical-fiction accurate on this show or is it all fantasy?
Just binge watched™ all but two episodes of Season One last night. Highly enjoyable (although my ears are kind of shot from two straight nights of gigs and I would have a bit of trouble with some of the accents). I like how all the clothes and surroundings are that Crust Punk Grey, yet most of the Vikings are really attractive. Even when covered in grime and blood. They are also very free and swinging when it comes to boning. Also dig the empowering competency and warrior abilities of so many of the female characters. Stoked to wrap the season up tonight. Good cast and good story lines.
Is it me or does the main protagonist Viking (Ragnar?) look a lot like Jax on that Sons of Anarchy biker/viking show.
So I guess we get the edited versions?

Is this like a Kmart version of Game o' Thrones ?
I think I might like it better than Game of Thrones.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat ?!
I like Game of Thrones, but this is alot darker and not as cartoonish.
What he said.
also;
Those pictures?
Daayyyuuummm!!!
More (naked) Viking Warrior Women!
"Vikings" is very good. Sometimes the plot devices are a bit hackneyed and the story logic isn't 100%, but, overall, I think it's my favorite show on TV.
I dig it. We've been working on the 1st season, time permitting, and both enjoy it.
Plus hot viking sex (the threesome offerings still weird me oot a bit).
...and yeah, my whole hate'n on martin thing.
The 'eagle sacrifice' on the last show was epic, and really wow the chicks DO get naked.
Fucking cable.
Great fucking show! My fave right now.
The only thing I can recommend is to buy the DVDs for the series afterward. There is a lot of good stuff that gets cut for American television (naked chicks, more graphic violence, etc.) For instance, us American audiences didn't get to see about 6 minutes of 'Blood Eagle' scene due to American (squeamish) censorship. Kind of a bummer Vikings landed on The History Channel instead of Showtime or Starz or some other cable channel.
wait, there are uncensored versions with nudity and more violence? god dammit. looks like I'm going to have to watch season 1 again.

Yep.
Awesome.
You People are Fucked in the Head™
Floki is badass. That is all.
He is indeed!
Just started season 2.
Yes, this show puts 'GoT' to shame.
To Shame I say.
Did I mention You People were Fucked in the Head ?
I attempted to watch The Vikings....couldn't get through ten minutes. I cannot stand the NYPD Blues shooting style. Everyone is running around with Hot Topic Faith No More haircuts. The music is horrendous.
Comparing it to GOT is redonkulous.
Game of Thrones is phenomenal.
I kind of like the show! :) Being a scandinavian it's hard to not.
The vikings are the coolest lol! And the eagle episode is so great and the soundtrack!

I quit when they introduced that stupid boat maker that lived in the woods. Fucking stupid.
No love for the new season stoners - sheeiittt, I love this program (schtoned) great plotz, last episode was entirely epic to the storyline, plus this...

Great show. Horrible opening music.
It's pulled me back in, catching up on the season now.
I dig the whole deal and the song doesn't bug me that much.
Gives me time to get my head together and my snacking on.
When the series started I actually looked-up that fucking song, I kinda dug it, but then heard aboot the
dude's name, Fever Ray....like really.....anycase this show is rocking my ass and making me hang on to
my cable bills - ha!
Sounds like folks are liking the new season? I watched the first, but my interest had waned by the end of the season - seemed to get more soap-opera and less historical. Anyone care to share thoughts on whether the new season is making an effort to be accurate on viking customs, etc.?
Yeah, after they beat the Brit army they throw a trip out mushroom party.
the new season is an instant borefest. farming is the main vehicle for the plot? more of the same really.
Steam punk.
fwiw, I like and watch this show and will look for the uncensored versions.
As I stated above, sometime earlier, the uncensored versions are, indeed, what you want to look for: more violence and some nudity. Not much, mind you, but better than what you'll see on History.
As far as this season, it's been punctuated with two deaths of characters that have been with the show since its beginning (one being a major character, the other a somewhat secondary one, but with decent screen time). Overall, I've been pretty bored with things this season. It seems like the show has kind of hit a rut and is having trouble doing different things with fairly static characters. With three episodes left, I think we'll get some action and, perhaps, another major character death, but I don't see much else getting wrapped up. It was just renewed for a fourth season a few weeks back.
By the way, the opening music is by Fever Ray who is not a "dude", but a woman who was part of the Swedish duo The Knife.
Hopefully they'll introduce some new haircuts to spice things up.
I knew this show would eventually grow on you.
I'm confused-- did Bjorn die with two huge crossbow bolts in his back, only to appear later, all rested and fine? Didn't Rollo take a 100+ foot fall and sink to his drowning death, only to reappear later, all rested and fine?
How many vikings went to Paris in canoes? I swear, there's more of them getting slayed than stormtroopers.
Didn't Loki burn in a fire, only to reappear...
Lagertha!!!
Ok. This many.
"He was a constant thorn in the side of present-day England and France. Alongside his army, he raided the territories of what was called West Francia with an army of 120 long ships and 5,000 fierce Viking warriors, travelling up and down its wide rivers at incredible speeds and striking wherever it wished. Because his forces were so fast-moving, and their movements so difficult to predict, they were able to attack without ever facing the large armies of heavy Frankish cavalry that could have destroyed them in open combat.
In 845, Ragnar and his army sailed southwards from Denmark across the sea, and then up the Seine and into France. They pillaged Rouen and Carolivenna and, on 28 March, attacked Paris itself. "
Whole lotta action in the TV forum.

Ragnar is, essentially, the King Arthur of Norse lore. There's no hard evidence that he really existed. Rollo, on the other hand, is a real figure. His great great grandson (or something like that) became William the Conqueror who won the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

If you guys like this stuff you should read some of the Bernard Cornwell books. Like this, only real.
I've read his Starbuck Chronicles. I liked them.
Fuck Starbucks and their overpriced, fancy pants, mythological coffee.

Yeah, I went down a wiki worm hole with that shit yesterday, GS-- had a dozen tabs open on every possible tangent you can (not even) think of. I know at least some history of most parts of the world, but not much about Scandinavia at all. It's cool to plug all the timelines together. Weed!
So, if this goes right, Rollo is gonna marry that Frankish princess and rule some part of northern France later?
Where do I get the uncensored ones? I need to squirm through the blood eagle.

Woh.
^^came for the thin lipped, crust punk-ish, attractive viking women/stayed for the Norse history.^

Ha! Pretty much. ;)

It's based on an old epic, which is a fictionalized version of the history to begin with.
And it's not particularly faithful to the epic even.
It's a decent show, I really like parts of it. Some episodes are hit, some are miss for me.
Yeah, Bernard Cornwell is definitely a good suggestion for fans of this show. His Arthur books are great too.
I thought it looked cool and then they introduced that Floki character ship builder in the first episode so I turned it off. Admittedly I am a TV prude.
