Title: need a TV series to watch
Post by: retardgroove on February 24, 2014, 01:00:12 PM
Just finished all the Mad Men episodes over the weekend, and watched both seasons of House Of Cards before that. Should I move onto Dexter? Suggestions? Is Nurse Jackie worth watching?

I like spy stuff and I read the book - if you have Amazon Prime you can watch 'The Company' - a CIA miniseries that is pretty good. Netflix has the disks.

I bought the DVDs for $3 on amazon.

Finally made it to the end of the 1st episode. Having quit twice during the fucken thing. Not keen on the upcoming goddamn Burn Clinic episodes...

Fantastically well made telly show but, call me presumptuous, I just cannot shake the feeling that there is a certain underlying "heaviness" to the subject matter.

Youtube has an accompanying podcast for each episode. good value.

Somebody made some great decisions in the art direction of this thing. I mean it's obviously CG, but it really captures the characteristic movement and simplicity of the original puppets. I have chills.

I've watched a few episodes of the Midnight Gospel on Netflix. Monsters barf up smaller monsters while the main characters talk about Ram Das or whatever that particular episode is about. Good if you're stoned maybe? It's not terrible, but kind of a head scratcher...

I've started on Breaking Bad, the first season was a little iffy, I wasn't sure if I wanted to commit to more seasons. But season 2 seems like an improvement.

I don't like the theme music, the opening graphics or the titles. Which sucks because I have to see them like 70 times over the course of the show. Gonna start fast forwarding that shiz.

I felt the same way about season one.   It gets much better.  It's a great show but the one thing that always bothered me about it was the corny character that is Jesse Pinkman early on.

That humor works better when the situations get bigger and more consequential to the characters so after knowing the end I like the first season a lot more than I initially did.   I used to blame it on the writers strike that was happening at the time but I think the show was still finding itself.  I hated Hank at first but in the end I liked the character.
Title: Re: need a TV series to watch
Post by: renfield on June 02, 2020, 09:38:09 PM
Yeah the first season is kind of a pain. I think it's one of the greats, I'd put it on the high echelon with Wire/Sopranos/Deadwood.

I finished season 2 -- I might bail out. Cancer and meth, not really the fun topics I'm looking for right now. And even worse, now they added a newborn baby to the mix. Yuck.

It's all about piling more and more on Walter and seeing how he deals with all of it. Keep watching. But I'd understand if you didn't.
Title: Re: need a TV series to watch
Post by: Lumpy on June 08, 2020, 10:07:52 AM
I made it through two seasons, I think that's it. Showing the girl OD on heroin while nobody helped her was a little triggering, to be honest. I don't want to seem like a prissy bitch but they shouldn't be showing how to cook heroin on TV. Yeah I guess people can look that up (its probably on Youtube already) but it kind of glamorized it a little for the young people. Showing explicit heavy drug use on TV is a little irresponsible, IMO. Did you know? If you show coke addicts photos of cocaine, it can trigger a relapse. Considering it's a show that regularly wavers between serious business and lighthearted fun, I think I will Just Say No. I got the gist of the show and I can see why other people like it, but I don't want to invest any more time into it. It's kind of like they took this serious topic (meth destroys lives) and turned it into a porn. I'm kind of crabby though.

Title: Re: need a TV series to watch
Post by: renfield on June 08, 2020, 11:34:19 AM
You're really missing out if you don't fuck with 3-4 but yeah it's increasingly hard to forgive Walter for all the terrible things he does. Show is perfectly self aware about it, can't say the same about a lot of audience members.

I think the portrayal of drug use in this show is far more likely to ward people away from doing drugs than convince them to do it.

I've started rewatching Buck Rogers In The 25th Century. Damn, Erin Gray!

After having watched both seasons of the series I completely understand why it was canceled. Still though its greatest redeeming quality is the female casting.

I've moved on to making my way back through the original series of Battlestar Galactica. I've always prefered the new series, though I loved the other as a kid. My kindest comparison of the two is: The Original BSG flirts with being a kids show and is too sit-com-like at times. BSG Reimagined is squarely for adults and older teens.

The Midnight Gospel is friggin' epic.  One of my favorite things to ever grace the TV screen.  I mean, c'mon....it's basically like someone animated and narrated what goes on in my brain 24/7, 365.  Episode three is where things start to really heat up, and episode 5 was when I started to just stare at the screen with my jaw dropped.  Mindblowing.

And by the time you make it to the final 8th episode, forget about it.  So powerful, moving, poignant, I cried.  It really builds up to that episode, and there's never been anything like that on TV before, ever.  Yes, the series is challenging, yes, though it's really worth it, and repeat viewings help process all the little insights and Easter eggs.

Dark.  Massively awesome German sci-fi.  Kind of like Lost if the writing was coherent.

Maniac.  Weird, mind-bending and darkly comic.  Very entertaining, though it didn't completely blow my mind.

The Boys.  Interesting take on the superhero trope.  I dig it, though it's brutal and disturbing.

Utopia.  Even more brutal and disturbing, plus it's pandemic conspiracy motif is rather....timely.  I don't care for some of the actors, and it's also got John Cusack and Rainn Wilson.  Wilson is good, Cusack is really, really good.

American Gods - decent for two seasons, I have a feeling they'll eventually try to stretch it into too many seasons, deviate too radically from the source material, and it'll go down the tubes.

During this whole pandemic I've actually watched much more TV than I usually would.....sigh

I can at least say that the creators of both shows had been consistent about how to tank a show in it's 2nd season.
Title: Re: need a TV series to watch

Was it only the two seasons for Buck Rogers?  I have the entire series on DVD, though it's been awhile.  I remember the final season being utterly ridiculous, though I didn't think that was the second season??  Am I wrong here?  Weren't there at least three seasons?  I'll pull out the boxed set at some point from my collection and check.....

Loved the Buck Rogers show as a kid, I had the action figures. I even had the LP of the soundtrack and loved that stupid theme song.  And yes, Erin Gray was very attractive, for sure.

With the old BSG, I also loved that as a child.  I remember the second season totally tanking, though not as much as the reboot they did in 1981, which was.....a trainwreck.

This has all happened before and it will all happen again.

The original was canceled after the 1st season. The 2nd never should have happened, but fans made them do it, so the network made fans wish they hadn't.
BSG reimagined ran for 4 seasons and could have gone longer if allowed to.

Your Honor

I wanna start this.

It's solid, I'm up to date so far. The momentum and focus can veer a little at times, but cool storyline, setting, and Cranston is good without being the main focus

Yeah I think the wife and I will start this one.

Halt and catch fire is super rad.  Yes there's a little cheese when depicting the 80's but I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Freaks and Geeks is now available on Hulu, I'm going to have to watch that with the girlfriend after we finish The Prisoner and The Expanse.  Maybe then she'll remember who James Franco is?

I actually remember watching that with my college girlfriend when it originally aired, geez I'm old.....

Also got sucked into Cobra Kai. It's terrible but addicting. I chuckle often while watching.

I know a lot of folks who dig The Lower Decks.

I couldn't sleep last night and binge watched Tribes of Europa.  It was alright, not wildly original but kept my interest nonetheless.  It's in German, so that helped.  It's kind of like a series of plot lines from Fallout, I liked it well enough.

I think lower decks is hilarious. I just wish it was more 'Gene Roddenberry with raunchy humor and fantastical stuff that is too wild for live action' and less 'Tosh.0 has a space boner'.

Maybe I'll give Tribes of Europa another chance. I initially got bored with the 1st episode. I don't remember if I finished it.

I watched that Grateful Dead 6 episode biography thing.  It was pretty good, duder.  I was much amused, learned a few things about the band, enjoyed the perspective of some of the folks who knew them well, found the order and pacing to be a bit weird, but overall I thought it was pretty gnarly.

I watched all of Them.  Not too bad, I enjoyed it.  It was gritty and really showed the ugly underbelly of America's even more racist past, though the writers and directors obviously know the horror genre well.  It avoids many of the pacing and exposition pitfalls that modern horror succumbs to.  It builds tensions and suspense, never revealing too much too soon.  Well done and enjoyable.

Watching Good Omens now.  Not bad, and they haven't totally murdered the source material.  Good to see that it's only six episodes and they won't try to turn a good novel's into a fucking multi-season train wreck soap opera aka The Man In The High Castle and Handmaid's Tale, etc.

Watching The Mare of Easttown on HBO and I kinda like it but I also find it to be cheaply connecting all the plot lines to every character in the show.  I think it's kind of the point, but it also makes it completely unbelievable.  Will finish the final 2 episodes but I couldn't quite recommend it.

Watched all of Jupiter's Legacy first season.

I dug it.  Not perfect, though generally very entertaining, and an interesting counterpoint to The Boyz.

The pacing is a bit wack, it's slow moving, though that could be because they're developing two timelines simultaneously.  All and all, it had a lot of substance for a superhero trope that can get a bit tired.  The origin story is fucking off the hook.

I held out on watching "the Boys" because I'm so incredibly tired of superhero movies.  I hadn't read much media about it and ended up watching it on a loose recommendation from one of our dead former members.  I really dug it's approach and how they blend genuine plot with parody.  Is Jupiter's Legacy different enough to warrant a watch?

Yeah, I'd say that it is.  It's another where the humanity of the heroes is exposed through both moral ambiguity and slow, deliberate exposition, though the tone and plot devices are unique.  It's tone is completely different than The Boys - no parody to speak of, it's a pretty grim affair.  It's more along the lines of The Watchmen, in that it takes a look at the superhero's place in society amongst a modern, rapidly changing world.  There's also a second timeline in the past that simultaneously develops the heroes' original stories, which is wild and thoroughly enjoyable in my opinion, and also reminiscent of The Watchmen in a way that's not derivative.  I found it to be both clever and well done, though I haven't actually read the source material to compare.

Plus, the episodes are relatively short, so it's an 8 part season that you can breeze right through.  May not be your thing, it certainly made me think.

My buddy and I did a project where we edited down a metal soundtrack to Murnau's Nosferatu (eg, some of the songs faded out before they were actually finished).

I remember it had:
Electric Wizard - Return Trip
Karp - Bacon Industry
Dysrhythmia - Running Shoe of Justice
BloodHag - Kurt Vonnegut Jr
Metallica - For Whom the Bell
Pelican - Drought
High on Fire - Speedwolf
C Average - Prolock the Protector
something by Fucking Champs

We screened it at our college's theater and blew out the speakers.

I am only familiar with the first book but one thing they sure changed for the TV-series is the introduction of female characters - something Asimov didn't really bother with. After three episodes its looks like an entertaining  but not great sf-saga - with impressive production values.

I just watched the first season of Falling Rain, started the second.

Damn, that first season was really fucking good.  I don't find many series that I genuinely like. Falling Rain is an extremely cerebral, mind-bending science fiction.  It's not the best series I've ever seen, and I am a bit surprised that it doesn't get more love.  It's kind of in the same vein as The OA, though without the same cool stylistic flare and unhinged gonzo-ness.   It is still weird, extremely weird and a bit cheesy, which means time could gift it a cult-ish circle of fans and a campy appeal.

It's a shame that the second season, which apparently has different writers, directors and producers, is way more straightforward and ultimately shallow, it just doubles down on the mystery/thriller/horror aspects and tones back on the far out brain freakery.  And it got canceled after the second season, for good reason I'd say.  There are continuity errors which are obviously deliberate choices, and many of the appealing aspects from the first season are sorely misused or not even revisited.  The first season had creativity, vision and direction, plus it builds upon itself really dynamically, which in turn creates the abundant sense of mystique and tension; the second one, it often feels like they're both winging and milking it.

Still, the first season is fabulous, too bad they even made a second one, it could have easily stood alone.  It's not unflawed, and the first season doesn't resolve a lot of little plot arcs.

I watched the first episode of that Wheel of Time show.  It was okay, entertaining enough.  I'm not familiar with the novel series.

I see that they did a live action Cowboy Bebop.....sigh.  I'm going to check it out at some point, and be plenty ready to be disappointed.  I have a feeling that it'll be on par with the latest Dune - excellent with the visual aesthetics, yet short on the richer substance found more abundantly at the source.

^ Above about the live action Bebop is totally accurate.  It looks great, it's okay, it's fun.  They don't do as great a job with the characters or the subtleties found in the original.  The casting is pretty good.  I've watched two episodes, they're.....fine, though I'm not like chomping at the bit to watch the next one.

I've been watching the new He-Man cartoon that Kevin Smith did.

It's.....decent.  It's not as good as the She-Ra reboot, which is simply phenomenal, although the last season goes on a weird reboot tangent.  They make it work, but it's one of those weird detours a show takes when it's running out of ideas.  Good thing they wrapped it up when they did.

I've into the second season of He-Man Revelations, and there's a lot to like here.  Visually, it looks really cool, and it's sort of faithful to the spirit of the original, though it lacks that 80's cartoon naivete, that lack of real consequences.  I think that's a good thing - characters die and are disintegrated, lots of dark, horrible shit happens and it's not nicely resolved after 25 minutes of victimless violence and cheesy 80's humor.

Still, it's obvious that it's pandering to the nostalgia of those of us who grew up in the 80's watching the original, and kind of begs the question of, "Why does the world really need this?"

Finished watching the first season of The Wheel Of Time.

It was okay, I'm glad that the last couple episodes dove a bit deeper into character development, and then things really started moving,

We'll see how the second season is, not sure when that's supposed to come out.

"Station Eleven" is great. Gets the feel and atmosphere of the book (which is also great) while adding its own elements and changes. And its about a fucking pandemic.

I also liked "We Are Who We Are" a lot, a series which I stayed away from because of the subject matter (annoying army-brats on a an US-base in Italy being confused about their sexual identities). But surprise, surprise, it is really well made (if slow) and I even started to like some of the characters.

Finally got around to watching The Witcher.  I'd watched the first episode when it originally launched and was underwhelmed, put off watching it.

Boy, was that a mistake. I returned to it because I saw there was a second season, meaning that it was renewed and therefore could not TOTALLY suck?

I find it to be wildly entertaining and am nearing the end of the second season.  Weird, dark fantasy shiznit with very colorful characters.  Mutants and monsters from para-dimensional shifting worlds, how can you go wrong with that formula?

Honestly, I think that it's pretty annoying, the amount of time they spend focusing on shots of cleavage.  Particularly in the latter half of the second season, when they start to do it with Ciri, which is just creepy as fuck considering that she's supposed to be mad young.

That would be the one thing I dislike about the show.

I watched Cracow Monsters, speaking of The Witcher.

It's okay, entertaining at least, kind of like the show Supernatural but Polish, which makes it much less idiotic than Supernatural.

It utilizes a lot of Slavic mythology and Polish folklore, obviously like The Witcher does.  That's a high point.  The writing and continuity is not always the best, some of it is downright derivative, clearly lifting ideas from other source material (The OA and Pan's Labyrinth come immediately to mind).

I'm willing to forgive that in this instance because the folklore is so fascinating.

Watch with the subtitles for season 2 and 3 as suddenly the music is annoyingly louder than the voice over.

It's a good series. Much of it is true to the way things happened.  If you can watch any of the ESPN 30 For 30 docs, there is a 3 part series that deals with the Lakers/Celtics rivalry in the 80s.  It's really good.  Also a doc on HBO that deals with the Magic/Bird rivalry.  Again, very good.

I really liked the first Season of Picard.  Epic worlds built upon the existing Star Trek tradition, compelling and well conceived sci-fi concepts, and just the right amount of action.

The second season has completely jumped the shark.

I also loved the first season of that show Undone: the actress is great, the rotoscoped animation really works with the mind-bending themes, and it ended well.  I was almost hoping they wouldn't make a second season.

They did.  And while I haven't watched enough to determine if it has also jumped the shark, it's nowhere as good as the first season so far.

Just finished the first season. Great show. It really gets the kitchen dynamic and how tensions can escalate really well. I don't know why the fuck my man was trying to taste test donuts in the middle of the worst rush ever, didn't really seem realistic to me. Also the whole twist with the cash seemed pretty dumb to me but I guess it's based on real stories the show creator has heard.

Is it some mythological stuff, faeries, Emperor Norton, that sort of thing?

That's in the comics, usually to break up some of the heavier and darker sections of the storyline.

I am in the middle of In With The Devil (or Black Bird). 6-pt-mini-series developed (and mostly written) by Dennis Lehane about a convicted drug dealer who makes a deal with the FBI to trick a confession out of a fellow inmate, a serial killer who is about to be set free. Very well written, acted and directed. Ray Liotta in a supporting role, his last hooray.

No, they introduced a new plotline with Rose Walker.   I guess it's episode 7.  6 deals with Hob among other things, which was a good episode.

Early Sandman was pretty great.  Gaiman used it on occasion to tell stories mostly unrelated to the characters.  One issue that stands out to me was a serial killer convention on the down low.  Just some really interesting ideas. I gotta dig those out of my attic and read them again

Yeah, I'm digging them out too, because now Liz wants to read them.  I don't think I have them all anymore, as my ex took a lot of our comics when we split a decade ago.

Interestingly, I was just talking with one of my co-workers today about the serial killer convention and how off the chain that was.  Sandman was very ahead of its time.

I watched some of the Hobs episode, though fell asleep.  Yes, the first trade really had two distinct storylines, this is true.  I just can't remember anymore where all those extra little tales with the faeries and Emperor Norton and such fall within the main storyline.

While we're on the subject, does anyone like the Books of Magic comics that Gaiman also did, with Timothy Hunter?  Some of that material is also quite....spellbinding ;-)

Counterpart TV Series 2017–2019

Binging season 1 dvd. Not sure how far I'll get, no search hits here. J. K. ("not quite my tempo" Whiplash (2014)) Simmons. Well acted, nice noir-ish lighting. Murky plot (who are they after?) double-agents or something but not coying or manipulative. Hired spies, hit-men hit-women fair game. Kind of a soap opera thing or something going on here. Good sound, well, not the orchestra parts, but the folio and atmosphere.

I hope it doesn't tank later, so much potential from first look at season 1. A little art-schoolish but better that than big budget blockbuster cookie cutter. This is more indy. I really dig the cinematography, it's a study in that, for me and worth it alone for that. Photog's take notice.

IMDB:
"A hapless UN employee discovers that the agency he works for is hiding a gateway to a parallel dimension that's in a cold war with our own, and where his other self is a top spy. The war slowly heats up thanks to spies from both sides."

The Sinner (season 4)

cool story, personally my favorite of what I've seen of this series, which can be a little up and down. But this season is pretty consistent, well written, well acted. Very down east Maine as it's clearly shot in Maine, and takes place in coastal Maine. recommended.

Good premise, and the creators have not taken a brilliant sci-fi concept and let it devolve into mindless action movie.  However, I'm concerned that they'll deviate drastically from solid source material and try to turn it into an endless season soap opera, like what happened with The Man In The High Castle and The Handmaid's Tale.

Also tried to watch 1899, which is supposed to be good.  The same folks who made Dark created 1899, and it does look weird and freaky for sure.  Fell asleep though, I'm just often on the verge of exhaustion by the time I actually have any downtime where I could conceivably watch television or movies.

So did I - not bad at all so far (E3)
share your concerns though - most series get worse with each season

Doesn't 1899 have terrible lip sync overdub?  Hate that.

I'll check out Peripheral.

Just finished S2 White Lotus. It was good.

That's funny RAGER, I came across this thing about the 1899 dub
https://www.cnet.com/culture/entertainment/if-youre-watching-1899-on-netflix-you-need-to-change-this-one-setting/

Even in the original languages, the show is a snoozer!

Best shows I saw recently were ANDOR and SEVERANCE.

We were watching 1899 but not dubbed.

We'll probably finish it, but it's definitely a slow moving story.  It doesn't help that I clicked on the making of thing on Netflix and it was spoiled in the first 30 seconds.

K. I won't bother then.

Did I mention we are watching Dead to Me?  Christina Applegate. If you squint or even close your eyes you'd think it was Jennifer Anniston.  Weird. It's pretty good. It's that fast dialogue, possibly some improv.

Chicks dig it.

On Season 7, Ep. 26 of Bewitched. It's just so chill and easy. 15 years ago some deal came up for $0.99 cents for the whole catalog. May have been a glitch but I bought it and it still there stored in Prime. I wonder if I cancelled Prime if goes away, not a big fan of Prime per se, but it is what it is. Anywho, the show is a hoot. For sure  a go-to, No commercials! Light, easy, with a wink or two!

ps. this is the show that pops in a baby elephant, or a handful of chimpanzees at any given time. for real.

I ended up watching the whole thing.  It got far better (and far weirder) with each episode.  Shame that it's not getting a second season, as the last episode of the first season is a total mindfuck.

Anybody else watching "The last of us"?

Episode 3 is so terribly romantic.  If you don't at least tear up, you have no heart

Yeah, episode 3 is great, the casting spot on. I don't play video games so I don't know anything about the game but the "Chernobyl"-connection was enough for me to check this series out. Its pretty good but they should have stuck with the prologues. They gave the story an extra scope.

We've been watching, but haven't watched last night's episode yet.  That third episode was amazing and Offerman was incredible.  They've all been great.

I also know nothing of the video game, since we're an Xbox house.

Liz has played the videogame.  Personally, I'm pretty burned out on zombies.

I did watch The Watchmen TV series.  I actually enjoyed it - it was different and unexpected.  Sure, it's kind of weird to make a sequel to a comic, and it didn't align with the changes rendered to the Watchmen movie.  Obviously I like the comic best, and seeing a series that utilized that alternate timeline was fascinating and entertaining, even if it didn't succeed in the ways that the comic does.

Alright, watched some of The Last of Us....it's not bad at all.  I thought that it would be corny like Walking Dead and the spin-offs, though it's a fairly fresh take on the zombie trope and actually seems to make good use of the source material.  Liz says that they deviate a bit from the game's plot, though mostly by going deeper into backstories and such.

Yeah, episode three was something else, and a prime example of the deeper backstories.

Not sure how I missed it, but I recently watched the 2018 multi episode "Waco" on Showtime, staring Taylor Kitsch as the crazy cult leader. Good cast, very good acting. well written. Worth a watch. And Showtime are about to release a follow up "Waco Aftermath" that has some of the same characters (FBI agents that continued onto the Oklahoma City bombing case) coming out soon.

It's like the opposite of making a book into a movie/series.  They're stretching storyline instead of condensing.

i would highly recommend the netflix minidoc about waco. it was really really good. it left it open as to who started the fires. im thinking its 50/50. i can see both sides doing it.

Mort, I watched that Netflix doc as well end of last week. Even better than the showtimes series, which I personally liked a lot. Waco is, for better or worse, fascinating to me. It was the largest "battle" in terms of of a "gunfight" since the Civil War in the U.S.

the thing about waco is i cant say the authorities didnt shoot first, nor can i say they didnt start the fires. i can say they didnt need to run over all their vehicles with the tanks. unprofessional behavior but i dont expect much from law enforcement. both sides were at fault and are responsible for the deaths as far as im -concerned.

also if anyone thinks they should stockpile weapons in case of govt tyranny, waco is a hard lesson on how it wont matter. the govt will win in the end.

my biggest take away from both the documentary and the showtime movie, was the lack of coordination...first by the ATF, and then even worse by the FBI. They botched it way too many times. As lame as the government mentality can be, generally military based outfits are demanded to have their shit together. Procedures, planning, order, attention to detail, squared away, COMMUNICATION, think like an adult human being, etc etc. It was embarrassing, and you can clearly tell that.

When it got to the point that the govt was spending a million dollars a day and the pressure was on to get this over with, thats when i figured the govt just went for it and probably started the fires to wrap it up.

We got apple tv recently and have been watching Long Way Up, the followup to Long way Around and Long Way Down.

Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's crazy motorcycle journey documentary series. It's fuckin great, they both seem like such down to earth good people. Super enjoyable, and they did this one on prototype electric motorcycles

I had that idea in my early 20's to circumnavigate on a motorcycle and never did it (shocker).  I watched the Long Way Around when it came out, and was jealous and glad I didn't when things like the drunk Russian gun collector came up.

Didn't realize they were on Apple TV.

I have Beef queued up, which generally means I am 50/50 at actually watching any of it. I go into most Netflix series skeptical given that for every series of their I like from them, I dislike about 7 others (and i might be being generous). But I'll make an effort to watch this now.

It's kinda a guilty pleasure, but I have been digging American Auto.

The Waco Aftermath series currently is really good. The actor playing Timothy McVeigh is fuckin eerily similar to the real lunatic. Next episode is the actual OKC bombing.

I agree. I lost interest during season 3 because - despite awesome acting and writing - the whole thing became more and more repetitive. But reading that season 4 would be the last I started watching again, hoping that the story would finally go somewhere. And it does.
My favorite part so far was the decoding of a certain newspaper article.

ok, I came across this new documentary last night (multi series just started recently) about the history of the Amityville, NY true horror story. It's well done in almost a soft spoken, but well laid out way. I had no idea of the detail about the origins of this. It is truly and obscenely evil and practically incomprehensible. As we still don't really understand how this could have happened, going all the way back to 1974 (the year I as born lol) and before that, to the history of native americans on Long island. This is not just for horror fanatics. It's unfortunately extremely interesting.

Looks like they came out with a new Justified on FX. Has Timothy Olyphant as the star but that seems to be the only commonality between the original and this spin off, which takes place in Detroit I think. I didn't care for the most recent episode, but been enjoying it so far...even if it isn't nearly as good as the original, which have far more interesting characters.

Poker Face. is blowing my mind on every level. Instant cult classic on a near Serling level Twilight Zone. It's pretty amazing. Of course Natasha Lyonne is a natural here and always on point. And the casting is waaay off the charts. If they make a season 2 and it holds up great but this is an instant cult classic for my taste - whodunit but nothing fancy or at least nothing cloying or over the top. Super well done in every way. I'm easily going to re-binge this later this year but I already can't wait. ps. Natasha is really the ticket. pwns it like Peter Falk's Columbo. But, wow, 3  bags of buttered popcorn full tilt. The production is stellar.
