Title: Top Films of 2017?
Post by: EaterofBirds on December 29, 2017, 01:18:18 PM
Anyone do these anymore? Being a junkie of sorts when it comes to films...I'm always about it

3 Billboards
Killing of a Sacred Deer
Ladybird
The Devils Candy
Dunkirk
Logan
Good Time
I, Tonya
Split
The Handmaiden
Brawl in Cell Block 99
A Dark Song
The Disaster Artist [Francos best all around work]
The Shape of Water

The Shape of Water looks IS pretty amazing, haven't seen yet, saw it last night... Rogue One is the only SW film to get on my year end, and unlikely to see the newest one anytime soon, so not worried about that one.

Honorable mention: Blade Runner 2049. When style and substance get in the way of each other.
Wind River, like it better the second viewing, and Wonder Woman was very good as was "IT"

I just got Brawl in Cell Block 99 today in the mail from Netflix. Will definitely watch it before the playoff games start on Saturday.

The Last Jedi
Blade Runner
Valerian
Wonderwoman

Those might be the only films I've seen from this year.

Wonder Woman was good. Maybe needed a little less heavy handed feminism/anti semitetic stuff and a lot more wonder. I like period piece with my comic adaptations apparently, as I lean more toward these types with Watchmen being my favorite.

Blade Runner was very good (not obviously as good as the original, but much better than I expected)

Bright was much better than I had read it to be. Yes it has plot holes (as do most movies), but the premise of it was quite good imo. I look forward to the second one.

I,Tonya and 3 Billboards are on my list of movies to see.

I just watch BR2049 again and liked it even less the second time. I actually fell asleep the last half hour. All in all, it's not a very good film, imo. Bloated Scott Free Production at it's worst {I refuse to believe, still, that Villeneuve had final cut with this...] Reeks of Scott right down to the end.

It's a boring mess, much like Prometheus and Prometheus Part 2

I liked IT but was not impressed at all.

I also like how IT made that Cult song much more badass and rocking than it really is.

Yes. My kind of movie. Watching it now 2/3 of the way in - incredible even if they pooch the entire final 1/3 - (it just got better). Vince Vaughn is my new guy.
Recently watched; The Vanishing (2018)
Old standards; Sleuth (both), Cape Fear (both).

Sleuth is one of my very favorites.

QuoteOn the morning of his execution, King Charles the First put on two shirts. 'If I tremble with the cold,' he said, 'my enemies will say it was from fear. I will not expose myself to such reproaches. ' We must also attempt this Anglo-Saxon dignity as you mount the steps to the scaffold.
