You did NOT get this from me....

A bootleg 2 CD recording containing no less than 116 of your favorite NES theme songs, from the classics (Rygar, Punch Out, Metroid, Contra) to the strange and forgotten (Golvellius, Cobra Triangle, Guardian Legend, Gradius, Clu-Clu Land). This collection comprises approximately one (1) metric fuckton of killer jams, almost 2 and a half hours of 8-bit goodness all in one place. 100% worth it for mere novelty/nostalgia value, but upon closer listening, complex polyphonic compositions like "Gumshoe, Stage 1", "Kid Icarus, World 2", "Wonder Boy 3, The Last Dungeon", and "Rush'N Attack, Stage 1" will keep you coming back like a crack rock salt lick.

Fuck, this is almost as good as listening to Bill Cosby talk about shooting heroin.

Almost.

INTRUDER ALERT INTRUDER ALERT

Omega Race
Space Wars
Asteroids

Galexian/Galaga
Space Invaders fucked me up when the music would speed up and get intense.

During the Galaga days, the Stop & Go had a sign/rule that said "Only 2 Teens Allowed in Store at a Time"

yeah, i forgot about zaxxon..cool game. i remember kind of sucking at that one..

tons of little mom and pop places started getting arcade games..it brought in tons of business for corner stores and whatnot. every single one of them by the late 80s/early 90s got rid of the games because of the trouble that came with it..there were always fights, kids stealing from the store and stealing bikes out front..

At one arcade, Chuck E. Cheese's I think, there was a Xevious machine that you could just kind of smack the front of and it would add a credit.  That was awesome.

I used to love this vector graphics game called Space Duel.  It was like Asteroids or something but you had like 2 connected ships.

Favorite was Venture, you were this smiley face with a bow and arrow that went into dungeons and killed monsters and took the treasure (except for the wall room in which you dodged moving walls) and if you stayed too long the hall monster came in and destroyed you.  It was like Berzerk on acid.

They made a home version for Colecovison back then too.

I've posted some pics of the PAPA Pinball tournament on the old board. It's held just outside of Pittsburgh.  Socket and myself are big pinball fans.

We'll be there for this years tournament in August and there's some other tournament being held there in March.

Back when Century III Mall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_III_Mall) was booming there were 3 dedicated arcades.  That was awesome.  "When the mall opened in 1979, it was the 3rd largest enclosed shopping center in the world."

How about the arcade in the now nearly deserted Parkway Center Mall?  That place was the shit back in the day.  The Beaver Valley Mall had Funland with all those old pinball games taking up that whole back room, I'd love to go back in time for one more night there, I miss pinball.

I loved that arcade at Parkway Center....if you miss pinball look at papa.org and read about the tournament that's going on this weekend in Carnegie.  Free entry to the grounds and you just gotta get tokens to play.   Awesome collection of machines.

Bumping my own shit but wanted to ask if you've ever been out to Pinball Perfection that's out in West View?  It used to be in Millvale but moved.  Supposedly it's a pretty cool place to play but I have yet to get out there.

5 or 6 years ago my wife and I lived pretty close so one Saturday afternoon went out to Parkway Center Mall to specifically go to the arcade.  It was actually still pretty decent at the time.  They had a handful of pinball tables and a good variety of cabinets.  There was still one lone place open in the food court that was actually some kind of bar.  Unfortunately pretty soon after we went they completely closed the bottom floor so the arcade was done.

I used to eat the dynamite on purpose just to watch he character breath fire.

Also loved the fact that they were naked when they turned back to human form.

Also how they'd hold their hand above water.

Rampage was awesome.  Good call.

First time I ever played Galaxian was in the fall of 1981, at the Toledo Sports Arena, before Black Sabbath went on.
This chick collapsed next to the machine and threw up.  Her boyfriend told us she had ingested "too many 714s".  We didn't know what that meant at the time.

i think 714s are barbiturates/downers. that's just the lab number on the pill. sounds like she may have had too much to drink too. funny story nonetheless.

that story made me think of the first time i ever saw an arcade machine..

1981 or '82, at the nearby supermarket they had Ms.Pacman. I remember some hippie looking kids wearing bellbottoms were crowding around in front of it and I walked up and one of the kids looked down at me and said "hey little girl, you gotta try this out!!". i was too short to look at the screen but it looked neat.

then a year later my older brother had Atari 2600 and i'll never forget the first time i played Pacman on that. must have sat in front of the tv for hours.

Nice! I have it on the Capcom Collections for PS2, now I feel like dusting it off and popping it in.

Barcade is opening up in a few cities along the East Coast. They opened one up close to me in Jersey City, and they're opening one in Philly in a few months, so who knows, it could probably head West.

I think in about 4-5 months I'm actually going to be able to afford getting an actual arcade machine. I've been looking at craigslist and found some games for really cheap. I found a Dig Dug machine for only $300  :o  I did'nt have the money for it then tho, plus I have no idea how I'm gonna get it over to my place. Think I'm going to have to hire some movers when I buy one.

It's always been my dream to actually have an arcade game in my room lol....I'm actually thinking about getting one for reals soon. I just hope my roommate is'nt going to flip out.

Only $250 for an actual working Pacman arcade!?!? That is such a great deal.....but I bet it would cost alot just to get that moved over from Santa Rosa to SF. Drats if I had the money now I'd buy it.

I feel the same way about galaga.  Console controls just arent the same.

I'd love a galaga / ms pacman machine.

I didn't have a lot of disposable income as a kid, and I was usually reluctant to spend the money I had on arcade games -- books, RPGs, and toys took precedence.  My most-played game was probably Elevator Action, but I also loved Ghosts & Goblins, Rolling Thunder, Crystal Castles, and Golden Axe...

Nowadays I play a lot of classic arcade games on the computer through MAME, and recently ordered one of these (http://www.xgaming.com/store/arcade-joysticks-and-game-controllers/product/x-arcade-tankstick-includes-usb-cables/) to upgrade the experience...

Tempest!
I can't believe only one person has mentioned Tempest! That game was awesome. Also, did North America not get the game Scramble? I thought someone would have remembered it.

Speaking of Tempest and tube shooters

GYRUSS!

I loved playing this game, but the cabinet at the movie theater arcade put out a TON of heat.  Between that of the awesome / vertigonous forced perspective, I was always paranoid that Gyruss was giving me cancer.

That same arcade had the coolest TETRIS machine, too.  It was really tall and white and had two full-sized screens for head-to-head.  I've never seen another one like it.

Yeah, Scramble was one of my faves too. I gave myself RSI once from playing it.

Scramble on Vectrex was awesome.  Best game for the system.

I just picked up a new HP computer for home use and have been fiddling around with MAME a bit.

Defender, Joust, Ms.PacMan, Galaga, Battle Zone, Frogger.... for me the xbox controller works fine enough to satiate the urge to play.

The problem I got is the trackball games, centepede and the like are unpossible to play.

I guess I should go the mouse route..... lame

Can anyone identify this game? I snapped some pics from this abandoned building I found out in rural western NC, must have been an arcade. This shot isn't one I'll use in an art show, but it shows the side and controls the best.

I spent probably an hour trying to figure out what game that is, AoC. Driving me crazy. Looks so familiar.
