I have a fender gemini that I have had for like 20 years. Im thinking of getting a new acoustic (well used but new to me)
Maybe even writing a song that I can play live. So do I get an acoustic and then get a pup if so what pup? Or an acoustic/electric? And can I play an acoustic through a head like an Ampeg v4 or JCM 800 ish head? Will it sound good or do you need an acoustic specific amp to capture the raw tone of an acoustic.
Dont worry im  talking an acoustic guitar song with heavy drums and bass and a good lyrics with words like kill, blood, sacrifice, virgin, and whiskey.

I have an old Fender acoustic that is my favorite guitar i own. Its nothing special but it sounds good and plays fantastic. Almost 100% of the tunes i have written in the last 10years started from it. It also has no electronics at all in it. Instead i use a Dean Markley pickup that you fit into the soundhole. To prevent feedback there is 2 rubber pieces that fit around the pup to secure it in and fill the rest of the hole. As for an amp, obviously an "acoustic" amp is the preferred way to go as they are designed for that purpose. I have always had good luck with bass amps as well. I used to use a Behringer B4500H head with an old Carvin 1x15 cab and it sounded great. If using a bass head i do recommend at least a 15' speaker to play through, seems to really bring out the fullness of the guitar. I hope that helped.

Loud/clean amps will do an acoustic fine. May be a little feedback at volume, though.

Any differences in type of acoustic when playing through an amp? I love the ballsy sound of a dreadnought. They have so much low end and grit. Very evil sounding sometimes.

Figures my bassist has an acoustic/electric. Oh and an Earth Super Bass that is a great backup amp for both bass and guitar.

I wonder how an acoustic would sound through an emperor 2x15?
