It is what it is - my younger kid who adores the books thought it was okay, my older kid was all fussy about it.

I thought it might have used some 3D for shitsake but generally I found it engaging and not the disaster it could have been.

The kid was pretty good.

I don't know any of the books but I thought it was a decent film. I thought it was the kind of film that normally Will Smith would have push his children into in order to 'make them stars'. Luckily it was not one of those films. Cast was decent too. Story is too close to Starship Troopers for me though.
