solid state amp problem(peavey mark 3)

my bassist has a peavey mark 3 bass amp and one day it just started making this high pitched squealing/ringing noise when you start her up. you can still play through it but i cant stand the ringing sound going on when playing through it. any ideas?

i had a series 400 head (really old, silver knobs). on mine, the problem went away when i opened it up and tightened the jacks. seriously weird.

oh, i also dropped it from about knee high onto carpet before the problem started.

hmmm no drops over here. and i believe its also a series 400 from 1978, i have been running it pretty hard a week or 2 prior to it starting up. ill try opening it up when i get back home and tightening the jacks and see if that works.
