One of the best samurai movies I've seen in years. See it if you get the chance. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen.

Cult director Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Audition) reinvents the classic samurai film in this no-holds-barred action epic set at the end of Japan's feudal era. As a sadistic and merciless prince schemes to ascend the throne, a group of rogue warriors bands together to bring him down. Starring Kôji Yakusho (Babel, Tokyo Sonata, Shall We Dance?).

If it's Miiki, I'm down with it.  Thanks for the recommendation.

Hey, what was the one with the fucked up family?  Where the mom lactated for like 5 mins at the end?  That one was STRANGE, even for Miike.

ez

great great movie. I'm glad Miike is doing more 'normal' movies. he kinda lost me on the last few. that lactating scene especially (Gozu).
Nobody exists on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere. Everybody's gonna die. Come watch TV?

The Bandit

I liked it a lot, but I was expecting more blood.

Epicand classic, old style Cinema. Miike said in the DVD special features that he hoped people would watch it several times, to gather more of the depth. I'll take his word for it and watch it again. It's definitely up there with Kurosawa, for sure, IMO. It's at once subtle and brutal. I hope to see it in a theater someday - it looks like a cinematic masterpiece to me. I also found it interesting when Miike, in the DVD special features, talked about the sounds of the movie and how it might impact the viewers experience.

I think I heard about this movie here first. Thanks Cakes!
