Dummy coils for single coil pickups

I'd recently added a Mean-90 in the neck of my AR200; I quickly was reminded why humbuckers were given that name. Not that I'm not used to single coils, I also play a few Strats.
There are a few brands selling pickups equipped with a dummy coil to tame the buzz, but it seems like you could do it yourself. Have any of you ever done this to your single coils?

Get a pair made so they humbuck when used together, knock the poles/magnet out of one.
