What's out there these days?

I've read good things about the 120 watt orange solid state heads, but never thought to try one in the shops before.

Used market is kind of dry in my neck of the woods. Any companies making stuff like beta lead clones anymore? Other gems I might be missing?

how often will you use it?  orange micro terror might be enough in a pinch

Maybe grab an old SS bass head that can get dirty.  I had an Earth Super Bass for a while (Peavey ripoff) that sounded great w/ guitar.

The older marshall MG series heads are supper light which is great for back up redundant gear.  Puts out decent tones and can be had for cheap.

well, with solid state dont kid yourself that a fuzz pedal will sound great through a solid state amp, not even for practicing really.  it would strictly be for backup purposes so I would not do too much of a search or invest much $$ personally.  you may be more happy with:

a hovercraft dwarvenaut 20, http://hovercraftamps.com/  that may be better for a backup but ya a laney aor or a peavey vtm120 would be better for volume handling

I think this falls into a "Preference" category.  I love the sound of a Big Muff running into a Solid State bass head more than a tube head.

here is an amp that caught my eye for 3 reasons. maybe someone can try this guy out and see if it works for what y'all are going after

1) the brand
2) the watts per $
3) the hybrid tube front end

$349 @500watts

undoubtedly

I know others that do this too for bassguitar, to me it sounds ok

fuzz pedal with solid state for guitar just does not sound that great to my ears but I do it for most of my recordings out of necessity, its just not anywhere near the tone that I prefer and prolly other musicians pick up on my tastes when I hear that so its just not for me unless necessary

looks like there are some hovercraft amps up on reverb right now. may have to look into those again (I thought he built to order with long wait times?) if they are in fact ready to ship/no build waits. That or maybe a 100watt jet city.

That matrix does seem kind of cool, albeit a little squishy to my ears.

The new run Acoustics sound surprisingly bad ass. But baby them as they are built like toys.

I thought the new Acoustic were tube amps?

No, I think all their new stuff is SS only.

Thats the truth Danny, sadly most electronic devices these days are built that way.  Thats why I really like to stay with pre 90s gear for the most part....there are exceptions of course.

CID Vicious

Tech 21 Tri A.C. or British "character" pedal. Joyo makes a clone.

I use mine on a pedalboard with a BK Butler era MosCalve power amp, 80/80.

Best wannabe tubes out, & analog to boot.

As in tiny class D SS to throw in your bag/box/bin for gigs? Or anything dirt cheap that will sound okay? Or normal size amp? If you are talking full size head and $200-400 you might as well look for a tube amp. Carvin, Peavey..
