Some Old TubeVision Videos Now Available on YouTube
« on: March 30, 2020, 04:06:33 PM »

Greetings!  It's been a long, long time since I interacted with this community. I'm happy to see that it's still alive and kicking.  Some of you old timers may remember that way back when I used to do a lot of videotaping of shows.  Occasionally I would have file downloads available on my website (anyone remember RealVideo files?) and also post clips on YouTube.  Back in the first decade of this century, I started getting burned out on the work involved with this hobby and bit by bit faded away.  Over the years I've chided myself about having so many recordings that the world needed to see, even though during my heyday I distributed hundreds (if not thousands) of VHS tapes and DVDs.  Despite the best of my self-recriminations I just couldn't get motivated to start it back up.  The last time I posted anything to YouTube was five years ago when I put up a Kung Pao set from Emissions in memory of Chovie D.

Now that the world as we know it is coming to an end, I finally have shaken off the slackness and started processing and uploading videos like a fiend to my YouTube channel.  In the last couple of weeks I've programmed the 50 sets of music you see listed below.

So if you've got some time to kill, dial up some of this awesome, classic Whatever Rock and relive the glory days of a rockin' time gone by.

Random old memory. My old band played with Ol Scratch around that time. Maybe on that tour. They had Sunn gear I had Sunn gear. We got on good. After the show we sat out front of The Ash St Saloon and drank waaay too much of some watermelon moonshine they brought along. Good ol Virginia boys I think.

I think you filmed Fatso Jetson, Totimoshi and Brant Bork at Bottom of the Hill in SF? We met there, anyway.

I often pull out my Solace dvd that Supernerd made available.  The Earthride and Valkyrie get a lot of time as well.
Thanks for doing that back in the day, and thanks for posting them on line.
Good stuff.

It was actually Yawning Man (not Fatso Jetson) that night- that's one of the clips on the list.  That was one of my all time favorite nights of music/recording.

Any Fannyfest footage?

Back during these days I was living in Richmond, VA and H.H. Word and I would travel to D.C. and MD frequently for shows so I definitely have a lot of recordings from those locales.

I don't think I filmed anything at Fannyfest - but if I dig up something I'll definitely make it available at some point.

Greg sent me a copy of that 2003 Yawning man show on VHS!  Back before you could catch them on a world tour releasing album after album.  Much appreciate the VHS and the fact that you put in so much effort recording.  Later years I got DVDs.  Deadbird, Solace, Emissions, and more I can't recall.

I remember my first Emissions fest I thought "I'd rather kill myself than record a video of a band for a job."  Turns out it wasn't his job and he was a really nice dude.
Thanks for sharing and recording through the years GregTubeVision.

I recorded at every Emissions that took place at the Nyabinghi.  The 2004 recordings would have been ones that I converted to VHS at the time.  But I still have the master recordings which were on miniDV.  Right now I'm working my way through the stuff that I have on DVD because I can quickly convert it to a video file and upload it.  For Emissions that means the 2005 and 2006 versions.

I'm thinking about possible doing a "Virtual Emissions" fest this May by putting together a lineup based on my recordings.  We'll see if I'm still motivated (or alive) by May...

Thanks for the props.  When I got my first VHS camera and started taking it to shows it was simply because I thought it would be good to be able to look back and actually remember what it was I saw (whether the recording was "good" or not).  Bit by bit it became more of an "obsession" - especially as far as Emissions goes.  I used to grumble a bit about the work involved and definitely got burned out on it but looking back I'm definitely glad I put in the effort.  And folks like you were always thankful and I always appreciated the gratitude.

I no longer have the Delicious DVD he graciously burned for me, but it was quite the treasure. I believe it was of their performance at the final Nyabinghi emissions.
