Just got a very nice email from a booking agent who found our page through another local band's page. He gave some respect for what we're doing musically, and asked us to play a local show with a band he's booking from over in Charlotte. Seemed like a nice fellow; his site indicates he books lots of different kinds of bands and sets up tours. First time anybody's every contacted me like that. Felt good.

what Charlotte band?

Rita's Gift. They remind me of Shellac. They just cancelled the tour though cuz the drummer apparently broke his collarbone. So then the local venue cancelled the show. Bummed.

Bummer.  Sounded like a cool opportunity, and it's good to find nice, honorable people in the business to deal with.  That's a rare gift.

At least you have both the new contact, and the reinforcement that your band is doing something that is catching the attention of people in the scene and such.  :-*

Yep, feeling grateful. The other local bands we were going to play with are working to set up another show for all of us, which is also pretty cool. I dig playing with as many different bands and styles as possible. Always a pleasure to work with bands who are pleasant and friendly to each other.
We didn't come here for economic politics or religious bickering, we came to rock.

started working on album #4, a little setback though having to move jam spaces recently.  hope to be back in full swing soon and playing some shows again.

this was from our record release in July.

sweet rig..

thanks man, first show ever without any pedals and i'm not turning back. the sound of the les paul and orange was so thick.
i gained weight since the last show so i think the beer belly added girth.

Ha! Not having casters on those Orange cabs will work you back into shape. I put casters on everything. I'd screw casters into other casters if it'd make them easier to schlep around.

As for my recent activities, I mounted a vaporizer to a cymbal stand. Because for anyone to even be in the same room when my band is making noise, they will need to be deeply under the influence of marijuana. I'm not sure how some of the venues might react to it, but it's Denver, so I anticipate indifference.

Good Ocean of Stars rehearsal last in, in prep for show next week.

First half of set was really strong, second had some rough spots but also is newer material and some of the weirder shit

Covering some serious ground this weekend with Thunderosa.

Tonight at Deadhorse in San Angelo TX, then Friday and Saturday in Tucson/Phoenix. Will be doing double duty with Thunderosa and my buddy Mike's band Love Mound.

Any of y'all in AZ should really come out! And be good to meet/catch up

Updated intel:

Only playing bass for Lovemound for Tucson show, and both AZ shows I'm on guitar for Thunderosa instead of bass.

Just finished mixing Palace In Thunderland's new record, "In The Afterglow Of Unity".  It's massive.  Massively massive.  Tons of both traditional and quirky riffs, cool tones and weird fuzzes, spacey effects and tripped out echoes.  Exactly what I'd envisioned it from the start.  Very excited for you all to eventually hear it...
The fact that I kept setting my own boats on fire was considered charming.

^ nice!

Played a 10 band 2 stage show last night. We went on first at 6:30. Our first show and people really seemed to dig it. Playing guitar and not singing is so much easier than doing double duty although I feel like our drummer and my Hyper Fuzz did most of the work. I wasn't even that nervous. Ian's Pizza developed a special pie for this show and it was fantastic and free while it lasted which was surprisingly long because they brought so much. My favorite sets were by Vega, Sow Belly Bitch Hog, and Attalla.

Will be setting up the next show ASAP.

Cool!  Sounds like a good time.  Which Hyper Fuzz are you using?

Yeah!  A few of them.  I know that some of them aren't in production anymore, and are desirable.  The one that Jus uses for Electric Wizard, for example.  We used a lot of Hyper Fuzz on the new Palace album too, though the other guitarist has one, and I don't remember which version.  I believe it is the newest one...

P.S. Yes, it is a FZ-5 that we used on the Palace album.

P.P.S. Jus uses the FZ-2 in Electric Wizard.  Those are very desirable.

RAGER

I'm still trying to narrow down a fuzz.  I want the option of some wacky octave sounds and stuff so I'm veering towards a Bit Commander or just building another super fuzz clone since the one I built I sold to a friend and he likes it so much he won't sell it back to me.

On the band note, I've already called it off until after the holidays. :P  Sometimes I just want to be myself making my own sounds.  Most of the time actually.

The FZ-2 is on Fanatics and Dopethrone. I thought you were maybe suggesting that there are different versions of it, rather than the other numbered FZ Boss pedals. I am kind of curious about them. The 2 is far from being the sweetest or best sounding 'fuzz' pedal but it's great for low tunings and does sound great into tube amps, not that others don't. I probably should have kept my Meathead but the resale value was good and I needed the cash for other things.

Nice!

Ocean of Stars on the Austin Music Minute on KUT-FM to promote the show tonight and the band in general!

Ocean of Stars show went great last night. Strong set, good crowd, overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Confidence that this musical experiment will be a success: Boosted.

I just scored the swollen pickle and it is pretty amazing. I use it on my bass and I get tons of low end with awesome sizzling, crackling fuzz tones..

Sweet. Another Ocean of Stars gig for Friday jan 23.

And I was just inwardly lamenting that asking my friends to open for their bands has so far been futile \m/,
