This guy is by all means a legend, is getting up there as far as age goes, and has had to deal with cancer, twice. So it was impervious that I must see him. He was playing The Continental Club in Houston which is a perfect fit for him. Two bands opened before him, the first band combined surf with country and it was very enjoyable. Second band was your standard blues based band.

Finally, the man himself came on opening with Nitro and ended with Misirlou, of course. Between that he played great renditions of Johnny Cash, Blue Cheer, The Rolling Stones, and Amazing Grace. This guy is not just a great musician but a great showman as well. He missed a few notes in Misirlou but managed to make them sound like it was part of the song.

My suggestion is if he comes to your town, PAY TO SEE HIM. I walked out of there feeling very inspired as far as playing music goes.
