While I was at work today my jam room aka the shed in the back yard was broken into. My bass rig was stolen. I want to stab the world. It was shitty and not even worth stealing.

Ahh what! Fuck em the bastards! Hopefully they did their back in carrying it off only to find it wasn't worth the money, karma should take care of it, a slipped disc or a hernia ;)

Ocean of Stars has an official line-up now:

Danny G: Guitar
Derek Rodriguez: Saxophone
Melanie Martinez: Bass
Ric Furley: Drums

And just like that, after almost 5 years of trying, I finally have a new band. We'll be playing interpretations of arrangements from my two instrumental solo albums -- 'Leap of Faith' (2012) and 'Ocean of Stars' (2010) -- as well as unreleased material.

Doesn't seem like it now, but sure seemed like it from summer/fall 2008 until yesterday, heh

Prolly a fuse but waiting for an email back from tech support for a go ahead to open it up and check. Dammit!

My birthday is in a couple weeks so imma finna get a new to me synth. Korg ms2000r rack mount keyless synth/sequencer. Fuck. I should be about set barring a couple midi controllers. Next I have to work on my sound system. Right now I'm just a mono pa. Boo.

Thanks riffer!

The music we'll be playing (my solo recordings) can be heard at http://www.reverbnation.com/oceanofstars

Not gonna sound exactly like it, but based from it heh.

Have 5 albums of shit back logged, but excited that now any new stuff I come up with I have a band to work on it with. Very curious to see how that goes. Maybe even an Ocean of Stars rpm challenge album? Why the hell not?

Rehearsal later today, stoked.

That, and within a few hours of first official rehearsal last week already had a gig offer for that Friday. Ha! Awesome.

My friends in Thunderosa (have played numerous shows with them on bass or lead guitar) needed an opener at a legit venue.

We only had three full songs we could have played. Had the sax player not been busy, we probably would have done it for the fuck of it.

Tremendous. Weren't the s/t vinyls German only? I arbitrarily decided to collect my five favorite albums ever on vinyl, so I need to track down my own copy...

Jake

Yep, it's the German import. It's a tricky one to lock down, but they pop up every once in a while.

Remember when I said I didn't have the need to dime my Acoustic 220? Well, tonight's first rehearsal with new drummer changed that. Man, that dude hits hard (in a good way). And I didn't fully understand the "less gain is more"-kinda thing but now I do. The less gain on my Supercollider (which is supposed to be a gain monster) the better really. Luckily I was more than able to dial in useful fuzz tones and might experiment some more. Rehearsal itself was pretty awesome. The other drummer switched to synths so he's still figuring stuff out but it sounded spacey which is what we're going for.

Stoked.

Tonight I came across the term 'TRS' and after a bit of Google searching learned what it means. I had always assumed that cable ends with that extra ring must be stereo..
Sometimes I wonder how I've made it this far without poisoning myself or getting anyone pregnant. It's probably a miracle.

edit: and then today I read a line somewhere equating TRS with stereo.

He only brought his Microkorg for now. He has Korg looper at home that he'll bring next time. It's his first time being synth-guy in a band so he's adapting to the situation. It sounded good but I think (correct me if I'm wrong) he needs to go a few octaves down because it felt I was just playing the 2 high strings on my bass and it's tuned to C, so I wasn't fully using it..

I'm not sure what you're saying exactly but maybe he was just trying to be heard.

Thought about trying some synth out in a friends band about a month ago but I didn't think I had my shit together enough to add anything good.  Still don't.

Picked up a Tascam DP-008EX today. So far it seems very easy to use although with that tiny screen I'm not sure how easy cutting and pasting and what not will be.

If you ask call and talk to a sales rep they will probably quote you a lower price than their website lists which in many cases will be lower than B&H, Musician's Friend, etc..

A TRS cable and a stereo cable are essentially the same thing. One is left/right/ground and other is +ve/-ve/ground so both cables are the same just how they're used is different.

Does this require software or are you as dumb as me about this shit so you get a stand alone unit like and old 4 track?  I really need to get on the wagon.  I'm even more dumb and lazy about recording than chovie.  I have a lot of material I'd like to get oot.

I'm almost as dumb as my grandparents when it comes to software. No. It's a stand alone unit that can do some cut/paste type stuff and mastering. You do have to read the manual to get things going but it's pretty clear cut. The thing is, no latency issues. You can transfer files to a computer for more tweaking and what not or to add to a Protools song or whatever, I'm going to be doing that next week.

It can only record 2 tracks at once but that's why it's under $300 and not $500+.

I spent the afternoon experimenting with mic placement using my pedals into my friends 5150 and it's sounding really good. I found out that dynamic mics work pretty well when placed 4 or 5 feet from a cab. It really opens the tone up and allows you to use your normal amount of distortion. A condenser might be better for that but I don't have one. Going to start tracking tomorrow or Monday. So far the unit sounds pro to me.

Now I'm thinking more about a high wattage tube amp for practice and shows but it has to have a ton of headroom and preferably not weigh 80+ pounds.

jibberish

liquid, have you thought about a tube pre and SS power section for super loud yet lightweight solutions?

ps, do hard core wave editing on the pc, no portable unit has a good interface for that.
