figured this is as good a place to ask as any since i wont post in gen discussion until slitherturd eats a bullet.

I need a cd player for my home stereo. fuck listening to music on a computer.
It seems they dont even really make cd players too much anymore. I wanted a 5 disc changer with remote that could also read cdrs and I couldnt really find one under $200.

should I get a dvd player instead? I think they sample at a higher rate?, plus they are only about $50 now. no 5 disc capacity tho.

your opinions are appreciated.

I love the 5 disc changers myself.  I bought mine 5 years ago, I don't remember the price.  I got it at best buy though.

thats one place I checked out Spook, they had a 5 disc Sony that looked perfect, but none in stock and then they said they would never have any more in stock because it had been discontinued. The only other one they had was a 300 disc changer and ...pfft, that just sounds like an accident waiting to happen not to mention costing too much.

I found playing CD's thru my Xbox rocks great, no multi-change shit but thru the home strereo
it's 1000X better than my shitty home 'pooter set-up...great for Live-off-the-floor jam listen backs.
...it's weird too my Xbox plays a lot of 'burned' DVD's I have (Rare Krautrock/Heavy 70's Psych bands..etc...)...that my supposidly (this DVD player will play anything...etc...) bullshit player won't
even register. Fuck technology man, I need to go back to vinyl!!
;D

I ain't drunk - I'm just drinkin...

Chovie D

yeah I went fully into vinyl about a year ago and its the best, but theres still new stuff that comes out with no vinyl release, not to mention all the cds i own.

I got no xbox. I guess its gonna come down to a dvd player for $50. just seems weird to buy a dvd player for music, not video.
I guess i do have a few concert dvds that I couldnt otherwise just listen to so theres that.

I have a 5 disc and a dvd player and wish I'd have bought a Blue Ray.  They're not real expensive now & will play both.  $15 for a 1/8"->RCA cable makes it so you can play your mp3 player through your home stereo & I do that way more than anything else these days.

Keep in mind that some DVD players aren't going to display track numbers/listing info. Plus I find they load a little slower.

Chovie D

oh, that would not be cool. what about blue ray? do they display on the device or is it all on a screen?

this is getting a bit more complicated than I had hoped.

If you're primarily wanting to play cds, get a cd player. You'll probably find the only stand alone units available now will be of decent quality, I guess. Sometimes dvd players do silly things like have slight pauses between tracks, sometimes even chopping off the last second or whatever of the songs. It's happened to me and it could happen to you.

Budget buy, get a Marantz 63Ki 2nd hand.  A friend has one and it beats the piss out my technics.  We miss Libertycaps here, he would post really valuable stuff in a thread like this.  Invite him back.  Go on.

Call me a snob if you will, but I will never buy a multichanger.  Prefer to pay more for a good single shot and get up and change discs.

Discontinued? man that sucks.  I hope my holds out for a while I really like it.  It's the second one I have owned.  I killed the other by transporting it with a disk inside it and getting it stuck :-(

Those 100+ changer shit boxes are total disaster.  My buddy had one of those and it ate both sides of his Beatles white album at the same time!

so you keep asking about if blurays play ripped music..............so i have a great idea for you

get one that has usb on it, and can stream music and video from it, buy a 16 gig flash drive for 20 bucks, or attach a external hd, awesome fucking solution there

what turned me on to this was two years back i bought a new deck for my truck(thieves got my previous one), new one has a usb hub in the back, so i put my 8 gig thumbdrive in, i said screw cd's after that:)

we also got a new lcd for christmas..........which has usb................so now i stream hd rips and music from there also

just a idea man, swapping and arranging 16 gigs of flash is easier than ripping and juggling cd-r's

cheers

It's kinda nutty that Sony isn't making a basic CD player anymore.
Their Blu-Ray player is the do-all unit. Makes sense.
I've had my 5-disc for 11 years. Programmable right there on the player/display.

How about a PS2? Cheap, plays games/DVDs/Cds. Yeah, you gotta get up and change the discs, but it's a great deal. Used PS2's are going for about $25-$40 in my area for used. I was able to get a 5 disc Technics a few years ago when Circuit City was closing them out. I think it was $70. Pawn shops are a good place to look too. Stuff like CD players and CRT TVs are a hard sell now and the ones in my area are dumping them cheap.
Meh :/

I have a PS2.  Can be kinda annoying for movies and music because the motor is pretty loud.

no game consoles, sorry, just not down.

A frind told me the the thrift stores are overflowin with cheap cd players nowadays and you cantry em out before you buy.
I might do that today and just get it over with for $20.

If i buy a blue ray, that means i gotta buy an HD TV, if I buy that I think it means i need a speararte sound system for the tv? and streaming netflix and all that shit. Now were are talking 500-1000$ right?

Streaming netflix would be awesome, but I dont know about dropping a grand on TV and TV accessories. Flatscreens are like 500$

should i go all madjohnshaft and just buy the best of everything and have the geek squad come over and install it?

fuck Im old

Really? Which one do you have? I have the slim and it's very quiet, especially compared to my son's XBOX 360.

yup...just spent a grand on a flat screen and blue ray with surround sound. The dvd player will move into the studio and become the cd player. your welcome obama and korea or wherever this tv was made. I asked if i could buy an american made one and they said only if i traveled back in time to the 1980s when the last american TV manufacturer went out of business.

were fucked

I have the other one.  My DVD player broke and so I've been using that instead, which is pretty handy, but the noise is annoying for movies/music late at night when you want/have to keep it quiet.
