Anyone here use Gimp? I just tried to check it out but the site isn't loading.

I do. I dig it a lot, I use it in conjunction with Inkscape. My usual workflow is to draw on paper, scan. Import and trace in Inkscape (I like the line quality I get). Jump into gimp for coloring. Then back to inkscape for lettering. Its a little cumbersome but it works.

I didn't make this one but it is awesome. My first show of 2014, filling in for Gian who has a gig with Amp Heat and whom stepped in when I stepped down (officially at least) from ETB

So I went to download Gimp and the site is confusing. I have no idea what to actually download. Native builds? Macports? Homebrew? Fink? What?

Lumpy

Looks like native builds is the basic package, already constructed into a useable interface. Macports seems like a way to build a more complex mix-n-match graphics program compiling Gimp and other freeware, with a custom interface. Maybe get the second native builds one (extra plug-ins!)

Upgraded my OS and now I can use Gimp. Trying to figure out how to cut out band logos without having to zoom in and go all the way around each curve of each letter. There must be an easy way to just copy logos when they are on a blank background so they can be inserted real neat and easy on top of artwork. Trying to set up a double sided insert for our CDR demo, artwork and logo on one side, track listing and info on the other. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysr5upLeGf4

Use the magic wand tool. Click on the surround area, then find Invert Selection somewhere in your menu. (under "Selection"). If you need to add areas to your selection, hold down the Shift key while using the wand. To subtract areas, on Mac hold the "option" key which I think PC calls "alt".

Wouldn't be a bad idea to watch some Gimp tutorials on Youtube, or Google specific tasks +Gimp.

dunno 'bout gimp, but in phtoshop you can 'select color range' which usually grabs a logo without its background.

You might be able to choose "select similar" if you're trying to cut out a bunch of one color. Firstuse  the magic wand to beginy our selection. I don't know gimp but I use photoshop for a living

Thanks, that is kind of helping. Been watching some Gimp videos and what not, will watch more. I have an aunt that is a pro at this stuff but I'm trying not to bug her because everyone bugs her.
