I had to go back and re-read your original post to see what you were asking.  Looks like you already know how to cook.  You're just kinda lazy like you said.  I get in the same ruts but I have this built in desire to cook so I research new dishes to get out of the rut.  So maybe look at some different origins of dishes to challenge you or pique your interest.  I don't know if you're the type to look at cooking magazines or blogs but I was just looking through 4 different mags over coffee this morning and got inspired by a couple different things.  Maybe try that.

I don't know if for me it is just about what to cook. Adopting practices and a routine that encourage me to cook more may be equally important. Did I mention that I have no self discipline in such matters?

Maybe prep some dishes before hand and pack them up ready to go kinda like a restaurant.  You'll be forced to face the issue of waste and money spent so maybe that will motivate you to cook.

Looked that up - it's Tunisian and the Israelis love it - sort of like eggs cooked in salsa which I've done before when we have too many tomatoes. I Like those North African spices.

Why the fuck are Honeycrisp apples so expensive? I see them for over $2 per pound. More than double the price of most apples.

basically because motherfuckers figured out people would pay that for them. they probably also figure in that you get much better fruit quality with less fruit density on the tree for this variety (meaning they need to be thinned), which means considerably less quantity per acre. it's a relatively new variety as these things go, so it's possible that as more of them get planted, prices may go down...probably not, though.

They weren't as expensive last year - maybe that was the 'introductory price' to get everybody hooked.

French fries from scratch - cut them into fries, steam them, bang them up in your colander so they have fluffy edges that will crisp up, toss in a little garlicky olive oil - cook in a hot oven.

It's the best method!

That's a great method.
I follow a similar one, but boil the potatoes first, then cut them.
Also sprinkling some red chile powder on them adds a nice zing.

My potato planting this year will be third generation for some of them, I have a bunch of shriveled up and sprouting potatoes in baskets by the cold side door that we didn't eat. If they work out, growing free food and especially potatoes is kind of cool.

We made tons of hassle back potatoes too. Good stuff.

Made some Pico de Gallo (2nd batch already), because I love it, and duh (couldn't be any easier.) If you buy it at the store it's like $5, when the ingredients only cost one or two dollars.

I think I put in too much cilantro (comes in a huge bunch, and not sure if I can use it up otherwise...) The ratios are important but I'm not measuring anything. I i used a little minced garlic this time, I was worried it would dominate everything but it's barely there. I just added more salt, it helps (i'm making my own chips in the oven, which aren't salty).

you got to be careful with cilantro..i find a few sprigs in a good size bowl to be enough..

Cilantro can take up valuable space on the chip where a piece of tomato could be.
