Tonight im playing in operational research opening for sleepytime gorilla museum. This will be a massive line up. Im not sure how many people but at least 12 or 13 that i know of for sure. Free jazz extravaganza big band.

I also may haved pushed things a bit too far as i booked a gig at an actual jazz club. New place just opened up in sodus point ny called the trestle. Now if you know the area you will think thats super weird. A jazz club at sodus point. Sodus point is a summertime destination for boaters and bikers and loud rock music. A Jazz club is the last thing you expect. My friend jon, who hosts the radio show i sat in with was out there for their opening representing the jazz radio station and told me the owner loves avant garde jazz although most of what he will book will be more strait normal jazz. For the fuck of it i sent the guy a msg and linked him to the npv bandcamp. A few hours later he responded and said he loved it and wanted to book us. We will clear his place of the normal people but he booked us anyways. I need to put together a bigger ensemble for this one.

New tele project.  Squier body, Fender Player neck.  I had to source a control plate and jack.  I have these pickups that some guy in Germany makes that I picked up a few years ago.  They call them Walk of Life pickups because they're a copy of the Schallers (I think) -edit; they were Schecter - that Mark Knopfler used for that song.  Christian from Whores uses them.  They're a normal bridge single coil with a second opposing winding on top, so a double wound single coil with a tap to use as a standard single. I think that makes them humbucking, but not 100% on that.  Going to outfit it with a 4 way switch for now but I want to kind of go over the top with switching options just to see what I can get it to do.   I love the color with the white pickguard.

Help. My peavey micro bass head is making a weird noise. It seems fully functional but im getting a weird clicking chirping noise out of it through the cab. Its sounds digital and the clicks and chirps repeat in a pattern. It gets louder as i turn the gain up. What is wrong?

Hanging out at the 90.1 WGMC jazz studio getting interviewed by Jon Greenbaum on North Star Sounds live on air. Being on the radio was way more fun than I thought it would be. I'm pretty sure I sounded like an idiot.

Happy recording accident:
I never liked the way I recorded acoustic guitars.  Using the onboard pickup always sounded fake and thin.  I would mic the guitar pointed at the 12th fret which was an improvement.  Then completely by accident, I found the solution.  I was playing guitar with the singer, we were just working out some arrangement stuff. She was on the mic, I was about 4-5 feet away, sitting in a chair about 45 degrees off-axis and roughly 2' lower to her mic.  When we played it back, the guitar was perfect (even if my performance was not).
