Are P90s the answer?

So...P90s.

Seems like they are a tease, hum and badass touch sensitive tone...or noiseless variants that sound like buckers, or killing the touch sensitivity with a gate.

Would metal covers and sheilding be enough? I play a rather gainy Laney AOR.

My G400 Flametop is about as good as it gets playability wise. A pair of Mean 90s would make it quite Sabbath apropos, as long as you dig that First Four Albums sound.

Currently loaded with a "nothing wrong with em" Duncan Designed HB103 set. Standard D & Drop C.

Fully shielded guitar, less gain and more mids so the touch comes through without having to push up the noise. There are 'noiseless' stacked ones, dunno how good they are though.

How timely! I've been researching P90 replacements for humbuckers.

I just recording some super heavy tones with an SG equipped with P90's.
There are two clips: one with full band and one with just guitars. The amps were a Marshall JCM800 50watt and HiWatt 100watt. SG was tuned down to B.

Erm... No. P90s are the dual buckers of electric guitar. Alone, they sound great, but in a band they don't sound that awesome. Dual 'buckers and a P bass are the shit... Just are. 20 years has taught me this fact. Dual buckers (not P90s) on guitar and a dumb P bass... Yup, dumb P bass.

No humbuckers were used on the entire album—I used my SG Classic loaded w/ two P90s for everything:

Mean 90s = po boy Iommi pickups. Birch covered the stock 90s on the Monkey SG. First four Sabbath.

The Lace PF905 looks promising, but no humbucker sized version.

Mean 90s plus sheilding...my M13 has a noise gate.

Could always get a plain mahogany G400 to kick the Means into later.

I rolled bareback on that shit—just the stock 2000s-era Gibby shielding/wiring, no power conditioner or noise gate.

And make no mistake, it makes a hum, but you can't really hear it except when I'm not playing.

There *is* a real decent video of the Lace P905. Not just some blues or jazz cat either, some gainier Marshall stuff shows up.

Hell if I want hum bucking, the middle position (both pickups on) is my favorite humbucker pickup, as well.

I've thought of experimenting with a P-rail in the bridge of my 79 Iceman. It already has a coil tap switch (SD Custom 5, I never tap it).

Hell I'd love an older Iceman with soap bar P-90s if such a thing existed.

got a 68 SG special and an AOR, a little noisy, but since i play sludge and old school heavy rock, a bit of noise doesn't bother me

To be fair, I didn't say P90s weren't a viable option. Hell, I have them on one of my guitars. I'm just saying for the most heaviestest tones that dual 'buckers are the answer. And for the most heaviestest tones on bass that a P bass seems to do it better than anything else I've played.
