I've had bad power supplies right out of the box.

I have a couple of those multi ones with reverse polarity switch, different voltages and connections.

My 11 year old metalhead put this thing on layaway at GC.  A Dinky.

He has 30 days to come up with $148 for the balance.  Gonna be a lot of pressure washing, lawn mowing and garden weeding in his last few weeks of summer vacation.

Vinyls.   deal.

I didn't realize layaway was still a thing but that's some motivation! While the newer import Jackson's are actually well made I'd still make sure to set it up (or get it set up) properly, the biggest issue with most inexpensive guitars is they tend come with issues, as there isn't the highest level of attention paid which makes it a pain for a newer player to really learn while struggling with those potential problems. Simple things like string height, pickup height, neck relief and intonation can completely change the playing experience of a budget friendly instrument.

I'll make sure it's squared away.   Right now he's playing my (his I guess?) 1963 Hagstrom 1.  It's a bit of a basket case, and I should do the same to it.  BUT... the neck is straight as an arrow and it's small for his hands.  So I drop tuned it to play The Thing That Should Not Be and he's hitting two strings and one finger on the "chord" just like a new kid does.  Kinda cool. And totally going to get in the way of playing real chords.  Just like his old man.

ill throw him a 20 if he can mow my back yard.

Usa candy cola strat!   Never had an American strat.  Now I do.  700 bones

It's been my observation that rosewood availablity is diminishing.  Mexican rosewood strats are routinely $600 used.  This seemed pretty justifiable to me given how so many rosewood strats are not solid color, rather sunbursts.  Not that they're hens teeth, but somewhat less common than maple/solid or rosewood/burst. And new strats are Pau Fero unless you spend $1600.  Pretty stoked.

Nice dude. I would love to tear that up.

It really is a joy.  I got a Calaham tremolo block to throw in it to help with saddle buzz. Was planning on putting it in this evening, but the wife and I are hanging out listening to podcasts and drinking mules .

RAGER

Just the block or the whole trem?

The whole trem.  It started with the saddles, snowballed from there.
Vinyls.   deal.

Pissy

Actually not the whole trem.  The trem plate didn't come with it.

New development;  the saddles from Calaham are offset.  Mine are centered, so the new ones won't work.  Not that big of a deal because they look like the exact same thing.  Regardless of what the Calaham website says.

The block difference is visible here:   The one on the right is the Calaham.  It's about 1/8" wider overall.  Heavier for sure.

I'll get out a pic of my Glendale trem block eventually, it's pretty hefty and had Tele saddles (on a Strat! :o). Unobtanium now but he's a Tele specialist anyway.

Have you guys seen EC Collins' bone saddles? I spotted them them last week and was kinda wonderin' if I need them for one of my ABR's. Fun to look

Case came in. Strap too.

Really nicely put together. One of a kind!

I was looking into the graph-tech tusq saddles for a strat. The thing that I keep concentrating on is the two set screws that adjust the height.  To me the holy grail would be total contact from the saddle to the body for resonance.  Having those two skinny legs providing the only two points of contact with the body is an area for improvement.  Babicz Full Contact bridges addresses this pretty well in principle, but in practice they tend to lift off the trem plate because of the rear travel screw.

Having said that I just ordered one used on ebay.  I guess I'm on a quest for the most sustain and least buzz i can get.

I've always wanted a hardtail strat, get everything bolted down to the body. No springy nonsense. (haha)

Found a pic of the Glendale - pretty sure these are way long gone but a pic at least for amusement. I have one with small steel saddles but can put in brass or whatever.

one of the best thing about fenders is that you can hotrod/ratrod the fuck out of them.

RAGER

What is saddle buzz and how do you hear it when playing through a 100 watter?

Well now you're just being practical.

Yours must be post 2008. I think from 96-2008 they used those offset type on the American Standards.

My 96 has these.

Did you get these?

Yes.  It was in the description, but I didn't see it.  Too quick on the clicky.  Mine is 2012.
