thinking about picking up a thunderbird, probably a 90's, to replace my 62 RI American P Bass.  i fiddled with one years ago through a SVT classic and liked it.  i will be playing through a 72 SVT.  anything i should know about them - issues, short comings?  how is the output of the pickups?  how thin is that neck?  how much difference between the ebony and rosewood fret?  im not a bass guy so any insight would be most appreciated.

neck dive!  ;) can be solved pretty easily though with replacing one of the strap holders. I played through one once, I liked it. Not very versatile in sound but hey, nobody said you need to play funk or reggae (unless that's your thing). I should think that playing through a '70 SVT will get you a nice growl-y sound.
