those old traynors arew awesome dude.  i have a 1978 yba-1 with the 4 inputs to jump channels.  it sounds just as good as my sunn and is even louder by a long shot!  Just needs new power tubes.

I concur about the old Traynors. I've had a '71 Yba-1 and a Yba-1a from about the same era. The -1 sounded better I think, especially channel jumped, While the -1a was definitely louder. Only drawback was that they were 8 ohm heads. I never bothered to look and see if the Xfmr had other taps.

Those Traynors are specified as 8 ohm, but they have pretty massive transformers. I've run my '70 YBA-1 at 4 ohm consistently for a long time with no issues at all. Although I did install a cooling fan. Same with the YBA-3, which one of the guitarists in Cold Mourning uses at 4 ohm on a regular basis. They got smart and put a cooling fan in at the factory with that amp. I can't speak to any other Traynor models, but that's direct long term experience on my part with those two.

Yeah my -1a had a factory fan.  I horse traded it to Lippy in part for his Les Paul.  Last I knew he was still happy with it and was looking for another.  Playing bass through it, he wanted two to run at once.

I think I'd sell mine for that. The stock speakers are typically Marslands, and not impressive at all. Heh, a few months ago I cleaned the garage out and put those dead 15's at the street saying what they were and that they were free, and they went. A few days ago I saw them down the street at the curb again.
