Fender started doing the bowling ball look in the '80s I think? It's definitely not anything new.

Could you make sure it's 16 or 18mm birch ply. Cheers.

Lapsteel? That's women's work!
I think this has increased my interest in a Fender lap steel.

Its the only way to own a 50's or 60's fender guitar for less that a grand  ;)

alot of em have been raided by telecaster players for the stupid tone caps.

I bet you could still get one for under $500. mine was $250 in the 90's.
I thought "I'll be able to get pedal steel guitar sounds on this!!" wrong. :D

I like when you open up an old fender amp, and the lady who did the wirings name is written on a peice of masking tape stuck to the chassis.

Lupe?

Mexican-American ladies at the Fender factory. There's one lady who was supposed to wind the best pickups, I can't remember her name.

Back on topic (Fender paint jobs) over at Talk Bass there's a poll -- only 124 responses, so hardly scientific --- "should Fender offer more colors?" 87% said yes.

Maybe it sounds stupid, but some people are willing to buy additional instruments just to get additional colors. Or, it helps make a sale anyway.

You know what were nice Fender colors (they're not currently in the latest rotation)?

Midnight Wine (like a candy-apple maroon... over a gold metallic base) and Midnight Blue (it's a deep purple). The didn't look like much in photos, but in person those colors are really nice.

I wish Fender would do more nitro finishes.

you guys have crossed into 'gear snob' territory.

I just know a little bit of the Fender lore, from hanging out online. I prefer inexpensive instruments.

Fenders ARE inexpensive instruments.
my bassman, hand wired in 1966 was $500.
An almost 50 year old, hand wired tube amplifier made in america...$500. strats and tele's. new and vintage go for WAY under their gibson counterparts and fenders economy line is the best in the business(classic vibe squiers).

The guitar I play most is a $275 mexican telecaster.
Its one of the things I LOVE about fender actually.
sorry* extreme fender fanboi here.

Baltar

I'm a total Fender fan now, and I grew up near Kzoo!

Lumpy

I was responding to the 'gear snob' post. Fender is my favorite manufacturer, they are damn near indestructible. If you want to smash your guitar at the end of a set, don't use a Fender. Or get ready for a workout.

Fenders are so "grocery"

You need to get a Red '78 Les Paul with the original T tops, straight into an Orange OR120 dimed out, and occasionally kick on a DD-5.
