Hmmm....
Drummer....In a band, with a guitarist, and a bass player....Nope, "none of the above!"

I play guitar, bass and drums. I'm in sort of a sometimes twosome in which I play drums and the other guy plays bass. Not sure where I fit in.

Drummer, in school with incomplete equipment, getting there very soon.
Bassist, won't respond to communications attempts.
Singer, who the fuck knows?!
Me, buying a home with practice space writing songs right fucking now, assembling pedal board.

Bassist looking.  Got an audition tomorrow though thats meh close enough to what I want to do.  I work nights so its hard to find a band that can practice when I can or wants to do the kind of music I want to do.

I'm slowly learning guitar to write my own stuff its going ok but taking awhile.  Thats probably my best bet of actually getting to do anything with music.

Guitarist who has been trying to form my current project for about 3 years now. Started with myself and a bassist (who said some of my stuff was too fast for him). Then myself and a guitarist...who split was soon as a promising drummer came in to try out. A drummer I had to toss yesterday because he couldn't pay the rent. Now it's just me with tons of gear, a practice space, 8 songs, a pile of riffs, and my thumb up my ass.

At least I'm playing drums in another band right now. Heh, or I should say 'learning drums' since I think I suck. I can also play bass, but don't own one. My hands are really fucking small so it's hard to play most of them. That and I've grown very weary of guys assuming I play bass. *sigh*

im a bassist without a drummer or a guitar player, but thats because my bands line up consists of bass, synth, sax. so im good. however i did sub on bass last night for a guitar player and drummer who didnt have a bassist at a show. so i stepped in and jammed..

There's no shame in playing a short scale bass, some of the greats do it, for speed, I played one for the punk outfit I was in. That little less distance to stretch makes life much easier.

I have been a guitarist with out a bassist for 3 years now! AND my old drummer hung it up last spring and i decided to switch over to bass i hopes of finding work!

Currently I am in the process of re forming a "classic" lineup (me and beardofchutulu have jamming on and off for about 15 years or more) .Our roles are reversed - I am playing bass and he is on guitar(it was always the other way around). Time change ya know? We have been drummer-less for a month or so.

As of  yesterday, We may have found a drummer finally....only thing is that we are in our mid 30's and this "kid" is just turning 18 and graduating
high school. BUT he is F'N good! Does this make us pedophiles?

No. One of my old punk bands, we hqd the son of a buddy of mine play drums for us, he was almost 16 when he started playing gigs with us.

You just had to get his dad's permission to have him come out play gigs :)

I started playing shows at about 14 under the same rules - parents had to be there, I only go into a bar to set up, play, and tear down.

stupid thought, but have you ever seen one of those one man band things that play everything? say like Joe Buck, the guitarist and I in one of my punk bands, once did an acoustic set like that, when the drummer and other guitarist couldn't make it. one took kick the other snare, but I've seen a single guy do both kick and snare, so you could maybe do 4 drums, or one does kick snare, the other hihat and some kind of ride?

don't know how well that would translate to your genre, but might be a laugh, or a hook for your band :)

Is there room for a militant atheist NPA guy? If so, I'm down.

I swore off party affiliations a long time ago, especially in arguments. If someone identifies with "I'M A DEMOCRAT, SO..." I immediately write those people off as sheep.

Bassist - either it is a metal guitarist with no tone or a guy who slaps/pops his way through. Thinking of just getting a beater bass and learn it myself as I know what I want.

Drummer - drum machine for me, most guys my age are more double bass than carrying a solid beat.

Singer - don't care

Me, other guitarist - writing and improving rhythm and lead. Realizing how I want to sound, my problems are I still am not versatile enough and I hit road blocks easily when writing songs as I don't want it to sound contrived. Wouldn't mind another guitarist provided our rhythm is tight enough, we can feed off each other, and just get along.

I'm done being patient, I need to quit or move, there's no one here apparently and I'm literally wasting my life waiting around for something to happen.

Thanks for the offer, but sorry guys, you couldn't pay me to live in NYC. Ever. I hate visiting that place as it is. I think there's too many people and too much concrete around here, that place is downright claustrophobic.

In all seriousness, man, if you have all this pent up creativity and you want to play music/have the skills, the solo band route isn't all bad. You have 100% creative and financial control of the band. Shit, a looper pedal and a drum set + lots of amps will do it for you...

Ok, that was awesome...but would not work at all for my song arrangements/style. It would work for the band I play drums in, slow and simplistic like Om. But try doing Mastodon/Thin Lizzy type stuff yourself.

I've been here for 5 months. The people are great, the food's great, and if you're ever bored, it's your own fault.  Not saying you have to come here but a change of scenery may be a more positive alternative than giving up music entirely.

A change of scenery is definitely in order...but how many 2BR apartments in Brooklyn have hardwood floors and a big backyard for $800/month or less? And I can't legally grow pot in NY, major bummer there.

I'm at my jaded and pessimistic best right now, sorry for the downer. I don't mean to be a drag but there's a drummer I've been chasing/trying to poach and I'm getting totally cunt-blocked on a jam session. And no bass player. Holy fucking frustrating.

Shit, I pay less than that for my house, houses in rural IL are stupid cheap, like under $30K for 3 bedroom with space. Mine has this for a jam space.

Yep, there's clubs in Providence 10 mins away, Actually, Weedeater played 3 blocks from my space last month. Worcester, MA 40 mins away, Boston an hour away, the south shore, CT is less than an hour away I think, Western MA, and NH is an hour and a half. I'm in the middle of New England, I'd say there's a fuckload of places to play. And a music scene with bands getting signed left and right...and no one to jam with. Come on down!

all the blues guys i play with think i'm too sloppy
all the punks i play with think i'm too technical
all the metal guys i play with just think i suck

so i spend a lot of time practicing

I'll say that recording software is so cheap now that you can be a one man band easily.  That stupid Day by day song on my site was a midi file that I was helping a friend out with and done completely in Reason. Yeah rural IL is crazy cheap.  I'll say this though the people down there are awfully nice.  My great aunt just passed away down in Ziegler IL and no one wants her house I've been debating whether to move down there and get a job in Marion or Carbondale.  I think the house is valued at like 15k or something and its a 2 bedroom.  The Shawnee national forest is absolutely badass for hiking too.

yeah, i live by champaign urbana (home to the University of Illinois). stuff up here isn't AS cheap as that, but it is definetly cheaper than places like chicago, indy, and so forth. a 3 bedroom house up here in town is going to cost you a minimum of $100k for a 1100 square foot place (still NOT a bad price).

houses in the country are so much more because farmland up here is expensive as shit. my wife/i actually rent our house off my brother (it's a 100 year old farm house, rickity as hell) but we get it for a stupid cheap price, but the utilities are $300 a month on it. but, i'm never at a loss for people to play with, just a short drive to champaign (half hour).

Get the lineup settled, then rent a room IMO. Not vice-versa. Same thing happened to me, I was paying and the freeloader would call in sick, or show up and act bored, or be drunk. Rent hourly instead. Everybody pays at the same time. You're not on the hook for monthly. Write songs at home.

Or move to Sweden, or Brooklyn.

I am a bit down in the dumps just now, and realise it is partly my own fault  :'(

My band has dissolved, the drummer and the bassist have both finally said they are too busy with other projects so can't commit to this band anymore.  This comes after 2 months of constantly being fobbed off via text messages with excuses of varying degrees of credability.

I had a knee operation in November, so didnt practice at all until January - last practice we had was in Jan so can only assume they had lost interest by then.  Shame, as we were starting to sound really good and from the 1 gig we did we got most postitive reactions.  Still, I am grateful they asked me to join the band in the first place and really enjoyed all that did happen - have a hunger to play live again now.

That was the first band I had played in since I was 18, and the first ever as a lead vocalist.  A few people have told they think I have a pretty decent voice, which came as a surprise as I never considered myself a singer at all in the past.

Trouble is, I live in a group of islands off the north coast of Scotland with a population of abour 20,000 so finding other people to play with is going to be near impossible.  Still, the other guitarist in the band is keen on keeping writing stuff until we find people - just kinda feel this will be me back to being a drunk on a saturday night, pod and headphones guitarist :(

Bitch moan over!

We should pick a city in the USA for all Stoner Rockers who are with out bands to migrate towards.  We could create a Super Stoner Scene with a huge Stoner Festival every year!

We need to create "Stoneropolis"

I like this idea...in a state where you can grow pot and live in the woods.

SPOOK FOR MAYOR!

Thanks ;D

I say everyone start converging on the Columbia Rive Gorge Area.  Between Washington and Oregon.  Everything that a Stoner Rocker could want.  We could have a huge out door festival up in Hood River!  We would have several Large Population centers all with in easy driving distance too!

Bassist Without band, Though not really looking.

What is the etiquette for a bassist without a drivers license? Expect them to pick me up. or Just end up hearing a "nah, we found someone else".

Once I get a real job (construction is slim pick in's) I'm thinking about renting a space (there is a rent place  I could walk too) and then going from there. I would love a place Where I could kick it and play loud at all hours. Then find a drummer.(Fuck it If I play music I'm  gonna play what I want.) A guitarist could join up. I'll handle the vocals and bass parts If that means I have to use a looper. But I don't think I'll need too. I can woodshed like that. It would be like Budgie/Blue Cheer/Pure Ass kickin' Music.

Yeah, having your own practice space is about the best way to get over the no transport hurdle, one band I was in the drummer had no license, so we just jammed at his place, it got real painful when we had to jam elsewhere, picking him up, driving back to our spot, running him home again, and driving back again.

I'd suggest if it's feasible, maybe cycling, with your bass in a gig bag? Mine sits pretty comfy with a 5 string in it, leave your rig at the practice space, or maybe use whatever is there.

^Dude I Got a t 40.  ??? Must figure something else out...

Heard a drummer and what sounded like a keyboard(or something) jamming today. It has been pouring rain all day or I would have went out looking for em.(I'll call it my "Passion" for music) Gonna find em next time. See if they need a bass player or guitar or singer(fuck it, I'll give it a shot).

Sweet fuckin' Sasquatch I might've found a drummer...dude is only 23 but who cares, he had one of my songs down in 5 minutes. Now for the elusive third member...

Age does not matter. We are mid 30's and our drummer is ALMOST 18 and graduating high school soon! BUT he he fuckin' rips and has 10x the musical knowledge our last drummer had(who was the same age and had a degree in percussion). The love of great music transcends age differences.

Any time you see a kid in a Suffocation shirt, it's a good thing.  Sammy Destroyer was the best choice for us, Hayseed.  I hope he doesn't go and ruin his life by going off to college....

The T40's aren't so bad. They are a little heavy but evenly balanced. Try out a Thunderbird for horrible weight and no balance... traded mine for a Pbass after owning it for a very short time.

There's a secret to Gibson and Epiphone basses, it involves going to your local ammo store, or diving shop, and getting bags of lead shot. There's a reason my SG bass balances perfectly but weighs 12.5 lbs ;)
