I thought about it. If I were still in Moscow ID and not Bangkok, it'd be on and I would offer no apologies.

Refresher course on this? Can't remember the details.

I think the project I'm playing guitar in is gonna gov for it. Cruz the other guitar player is moving in April and wre want to record anyway, its a good thing to have a goal and light a fire under asses to do so.

RPM Challenge is a website and open call to bands or musicians to challenge themselves to write and record an entire album (10 songs or 35 mins of material), write, mix, master and album art, during the 28 (or 29) days of February every year

I always find myself nipping at the heels of this. except it just dawned on me: this is not genre limited, I can do what I do and see what happens because I sure as hell can't do what you do.

Danny G

\m/, I always just go with whatever ideas come to me. Who cares about genre or if it will even make any sense.

That helps immensely, heh!

4 song ideas so far. So far so good

7 ideas total, scratch guitar demos should cover 35 minutes for length.

Now to clean up some arrangements and look into locations in which to track drums.

Scratch rhythms done. Keeping the original improvised arrangements, mainly due to time constraints.

Did my best to get rhythms down enough where I could live with them in case I can't re record them properly with my JCM800

Danny is a working musician ie. on a budget.  I myself am a fan of TV trays.  I've since gotten some keybaord stands but the trays are still in high demand.

How the hell do you write that much in like two days!!!

Danny G

I have no fucking clue. Kind of weirded me out a bit to be honest.

Listening back to a lot of it it's like "Wow, I've been dealing with some shit the past year...!"

One song finished I believe, no drums needed. Taking a break thru Monday due to gigs. Will begin tracking drums then.

Tried out drums today, scratch tracks to try beats and test sounds.

Have next two days to work on the album, trying to decide if work on more drums tomorrow, or instead track guitar on my stage rig and listen to mixes and brainstorm on beats.

Tonight I can either mix these new demos with drums, or start writing bass lines now that I have beats. I dunno, kinda drunk now.

Recorded more drums today, not sure if anything worth keeping, but a good start.

Also figured out what was causing a weird low end noise on the room mic pointed towards the kick drum I kept hearing yesterday and today.

Turns out the gust of wind like an air cannon from the kick drum was hitting the mic (4-5 ft away).

Angled it off a bit and problem solved \m/,

Danny guitar sounds good! I guessed it was the Iceman? before seeing the pic. The Marshall, please tell me thats a Studio 15? god I miss mine. I remeber you posting the rpm challenge last year, which I missed, but got.to.do.something this year. Thumbs Up!

Danny G

Thanks man. I've been using the 79 and the Paul Stanley, can't recall anymore which one I used for which songs, the 79 is in E but the Paul Stanley is in D.

That's a Marshall Lead 12 and an Epiphone Valve Standard

Resumed tracking today.

Re-did drums on 4 songs. May still have to re-re-do one. Fiddled scratch bass on 2 songs.

Tomorrow finishing drums and beginning stage-rig guitars.

Not sure ill finish by Friday midnight, but I'll try to finish album by SXSW

ok, this year has shown me, that I don't have it in me to whip out 10 songs this fast.

the attempt got me 2 great song concepts though, so it wasn't a waste.  the real problem is that I have a mountain of partial songs and song ideas, and I cant keep old stuff separated enough to only think up new stuff. the old stuff creeps in and that would be cheating.
I could fake it and just finish 10 songs in a month, but I didn't do the hard part which was to actually come up with those songs in that time also.

so, at least I can put this whole notion to bed now.  I just cant roll that fast.
so I will wish you well instead.

Danny G

I think I can pull off the deadline if I plug the bass straight into the 8 track or mic my practice amp. Don't have time/energy to track my stage rig anywhere.

I plan to properly retrack bass in prep for digital album release for sxsw.

Still don't know what I'll call it and still need names for half the songs.

I'm also deliriously exhausted and have busy days for the next two, not counting tracking/mixing/album art
