I believe that you are referring to what is known as the "duster." And they are indeed badass.

When it comes to doom, stoner, sludge, and related heavy sounds the 'emo' description or put down is usually a good thing and has nothing to do with emo hardcore or emo metalcore/whatever vibes.

Well, I'd say that it is directly related to emo hardcore.  I love Sunny Day Real Estate and Rites of Spring, and have been slowly incorporating that influence more and more.  This new song we wrote sounds like a cross between SDRE and Torche, and the lyrics are pretty emotional/lovey dovey  :-*
The fact that I kept setting my own boats on fire was considered charming.

I'm speaking more to "doom metal is the emo of metal" type comments. I like bands such as Solstice and Mirror of Deception though which have nothing to do with actual 'emo'.

I hear you.  A lot of people used the "emo" term to describe Warning as well, and they fucking RULED...

Warning is indeed awesome!! I've never heard anyone use the term emo when talking about any doom over here tho...

We just finished a four date tour in Finland with Horse Latitudes, it's been really amazing, the metal scene here is awesome, so many great bands, good gig turn outs, we visited a couple of record shops owned by guys from Beherit and Deathspell Omega, the stuff in them was unbelievable, so much good Finnish metal, been having saunas for the last couple of nights, there was one backstage last night so we had a sauna before playing at 1am! We've been lucky to have had such a good response, I can never quite believe it because I know we still have a long way to go, the HL guys are amazing too, so passionate about metal and they are truly amazing live, it's been amazing, I'm very tired now...

That is awesome, Jemma!!!

Going to be working on some new Palace material today.  Since we're basically putting the finishing touches on the album we just recorded, we need to write some new tunes.  I'm very focused about primarily doing studio work.

We've got one new song done from last week, for the next album, really trying to focus on material that's not all that "stoner rock", like not as many blues riffs and Sabbath nods.  Want more of the Torche/Floor, Sunny Day Real Estate/Rites of Spring, Quicksand/Helmet vibes, along with the shoegaziness of Ride and the spaced out effects of Monster Magnet.

Sounds do-able.

Another thumbs up for Warning. Never really dug the term emo... so much good music is emotional... even a lot of instrumental stuff... Jakob for instance
Last night I heard the ghetto bird circle.... as I was eatin' fish.... and watchin' Erkel...

After only two practices Emerald Douglas is trying to set up a show. A little crazy perhaps but the material is all easy to play and that's part of the fun.

Danny G

Go for it.

Southern Gun Culture played its first show after maybe 5 weeks from its first rehearsal

Ocean of Stars made good progress on the two new tunes we've been working on.

One is just about gig-ready, the other will take more time and effort. It's a weird intricate song, but if we can pull it off that one will (hopefully) turn some heads.
