This was something I did for school, when I cared about it. SINK also ended up being one of my solo-things I did to kill time. The interesting part is at 2:40.
Yeah, yeah, my midsection isn't all that hot. Sorry, cats. Interesting at 2:00 ish.
I'm in the start and end of this.. it's mostly a drum solo
Lou Ferrigno plays a mean set of drums. At least that's what I'd say if he asked what I thought.
I like how the video is called "Sunn Sonaro + Beta Lead + Telecaster", instead of a song title or "something I wrote.". In my head I imagine you did that just for me.
That isn't a song, haha. I don't even know what I played there, it was improvised.
Alternately, that IS the song title? Boris has a song called '86 Les Paul Custom?

Also, Sunsplitter!
here's one of my band from the last show. it's kinda funny. you can barely hear the guitar. I was having issues with a borrowed amp. It starts with me completely forgetting a song that I wrote, which is rare. we laugh it off pretty well.

Thanks, guys. That's how they sound in my head all the time, and usually acoustically, in a big room. They're not often recorded that well, even on our album. But yeah, that's how they
should sound.

he is actually big, but he looks even bigger in band photos and vids cos he's next to me.. i'm about 50kg, might be a great deal less if i ever got a haircut
volume, hooked is a pretty sweet track.. i love how the vid starts off sideways, accentuates the trippiness

You know, this makes me realize I need to invest in something other than the cheap tape recorder I still use for recording. How else is anyone going to hear my amazing playing if I want to join another band?
Sarcasm aside, anyone use one of those Zoom video or audio recorders and if so, can you tell me about them?
@ Diddler: I think I kinda have a crush on your drummer.
@instant dan, this video was shot on 2 camz with audio from a zoom h1 @ the back of the club, this is my current band, Heavy Action. started as just heavy renditions of 70's b-sides, now we're writing originals. i play bass.... dr zayus plays guitar
love the h1 for recording, its pretty much idiot proof and can record a shitton
tm of time, like 4 hours at the highest bit-rate wmv, and like 60 or something like that hours at the lowest bit-rate mp3 (with the included micro sd card which is... 2 gigs i think?) my only complaint is that it doesn't come with a pop filter and the accessory kit is an additional 40 bucks. i would highly recommend it though, great little recorder, and if its indicative of zoom's stuff as a whole id say pull the trigger and you wont be sorry.

this is a great thread. seeing the peeps that post here kicking ass and taking names. even if i dont like a song all that much, i like what you are doing. very motivating and inspiring, and believe me, i need that.
Couple summers ago. first awkward small show with my new (old) drummer that hadn't been on a stage in close to 10 years. i normally use two amps but I had some issues with my second so had to do it with just the Orange as I was complaining aboot.
I was listening back to the rehearsal recordings we did back 3 months ago. It's a loose jam, we kept playing the same riff over and over again. We finally have a rehearsal with all band members later this week, those 3 months were long... We can finish this jam and start thinking about something else and the planned Sabbath cover.
So, excuse the shitty sound, the shitty playing, basically the shitty everything.

Also, this is a few years old, but it's some of the only footage we have.
They're still around.
Teal now sings with The Whiskey Sisters, Josh has a band called The South Austin Moonlighters. A lot of the same players in each band, and Josh now plays guitar for TWS.
Just saw TWS for the first time on Thursday, doing the old Mother Truckers happy hour slot at Continental Club. They are blowing up, and TSAM aren't doing too bad either. Pete the Beat the old TMT drummer was in attendance as well (plays with TWS from time to time), and several fans tried to encourage a Mother Truckers reunion as all four of us were there, but that didn't pan out. Not ruled out for the future tho
Good to see them all tho, that was fun

seriously awesome stuff guys! smokey im loving those tones, heavy!
Thank ya. The video is somewhat misleading though, we aren't actually that sludgy but we do use a ton of distortion. Crushing skulls is part of the plan.
Yo smoke, my brother is heading to Madison for your show tonight. I was gonna hitch a ride, but I just bought a house and need to not go out and work on stuff at home. Have fun dude! Mount Salem are my homies, and definitely enjoy themselves...and you are sharing the stage with Mike!!! Fuck...maybe I should go.
Not sure if I met your brother or not but there was a pretty good crowd for awhile there. I hear ya on the house thing, they require a lot of work. This was my first time seeing Mount Salem, Azala, and Mike in any incarnation. He said he liked our set without being asked and told me that I am a doom orator. I'm not the YOB fan I once was but it still meant a lot. I liked the Mount Salem and Azala sets and hearing Mike sing clean was amazing, the guy has powerful pipes!

Again, not my band but one I recorded. It was nearly pitch black so the video was horrible, so my only choice was to roll with it and make it look grainy/old. The audio turned out pretty good with the exception of the vocals being way too quiet, but no amount of post-production EQ/compression can fix that. All things considered I'm happy with it considering what I started with. Cool band.

thanks.that´s me playing the guitar, and the setup is : gretsch jet baritone tuned to a, into a dynacomp into an a/b box , from there into a POG 2 into some hartke bass combo ,and on the other side into a vintage rat, into a beta lead ,plugged into a beat up hughes and kettner cab
Did a decent practice room recording of drums and bass, dubbed guitar on to make a demo, sounds pretty good I reckon.

Don't really know genre wise, kinda stuck for it, this was supporting indie rock band EP launch, very 'down with the kids' stuff. I'm fairly keen on playing mismatched lineups, because loads of heavy in a row drops the impact. I tend to say amplifier worship, because showing off my amps is key, but getting pretty happy with my riffs now. Arrangement needs work.

I've posted then immediately deleted this clip a few times (mainly out of a sense of compassion and sympathy for the band, haha) but I kicked sticks a couple months ago so fuck it? This was in August, our first show since June 2011, typical YouTube sub-standard audio quality to add to our own sub-standard sonic drudgery
Finger style on the bass? Good man. Most multi-instrumentalists seem to be pick players.
Also too: epic hair.
Cheers Lumps...I prefer fingering the bass (hamina hamina) but I do use a pick on the grindier stuff for clarity

Yes those are Dunwich DA-120's. They are the best amps I have ever had. Great tone and super reliable......

I am not renting a studio on my own any more, I did that for about the last 5 months and was not able to round up a band. I had my drumset, PA, guitar rig and bass rig all set up in there.
Now I am learning cover tunes for an audition. then I will audition for an original heavy metal band that wants me to join up. Here are some covers I learned:
I made a punk rock guitars version of "country road":

Hey yall, any constructive criticism on the singing/guitar/production is much appreciated! First time I have recorded with this acoustic which has been in storage for many years in another state, so I am really digging it.
Me on vocals and guitar singing John Denver "Leavin on a Jet Plane":
hey yall, just recorded some singing/guitar solos over this little voodoo chant if you get the chance:
edit3: my initial response not being aware that part of my signal chain was unpowered, pretty funny:
^I don't know if the complete input overload was intentional or an accident, but whatever you do DON'T CHANGE A THING
that is wicked. I would play with just a little reprocessing through some either delay or reverb to see what I could get even more sick sounding.
if u want, soundcloud that overloaded soundtrack so I can play with it.
heh, that's crazy..my only instinct is to soften that harshest of crumbly sounding distortion and give it some stereo size/space ambience
edit: actually it sounds more like extremely choked off signal like silicon junctions failing due to low voltage or a leaky noise gate or something opposite overload. regardless. that is very interesting. at times, like during the vocals, it is so sick. I almost want a pedal that can strangle my sound like that at will.
edit NEVERMIND. the power blipped and my main receiver was off. so the sound was being choked through non-powered circuitry. at least I made the call. I tried another video and "uh-oh, it's me, not the video". SO I can just record that haha. i'll soundcloud what I was talking about. it's off the hook haha. you sound fine..heh. oh boy...

qtip. how did you construct that video? that german dude that posted his tunes did that too. y'all's videos are both really nice.
did you say you already had the audio track? and then what? you just played along with the song and filmed each part?
I could also see videoing each part as you play. then cut up the videos. But that just seems like a long process like if you screw up vs lip synching.
but I haven't done either yet, so I guess I am looking for the smoothest path to doing a video like that.

I don't know if I've seen the german guys videos, but I recorded the audio tracks and video at the same time. I played along with the bands original studio recording for each instrument. I would have done drums first then recorded everything else along with my drum tracks for a tighter feel but my recording computer blows and has so much latency I recorded everything to the original to make it easier.
I brought the videos into Adobe Premiere where you can have multiple audio and video tracks, loaded the original song in, and synced each video to the song. The videos get layered so I went through and just deleted sections of the videos so the ones underneath were shown. A little time consuming but I can't think of a more efficient way.
I will admit I did a bit of editing on the audio, just to take out any mistakes or bum notes that took you out of the song. For that I just copied that note from an earlier or later spot in the song with the same riff. So visually it should look the same. And if not, switch to another instrument for that part haha.
cool stuff! great work. maybe render all the drums to one single mp3 so that it is as fast for your computer as playing along with the song you are covering, then switch it out later if you want for editing
thx for explaining that qtip.

the reason I wanted to keep the speaker in the Fender Greta 2w combo is for bedroom level practicing.
Here is 2 minutes with Greta and pedals. camera mic, it's fuzzy sounding anyway. you can tell the actual volume because you can slightly hear harder pick attacks from the strings.
BTW, the scrap of Kleenex wrapped on my glasses earpiece is because those Sennheiser phones crush my ear against that metal after a while and it really starts to hurt when I am doing lots of phones work.

this is an original tune, here are the lyrics:
Will I stay at home / Will I be alone, tonight
Your so hot / Will the guys just start to drool
did I pick a fight / Will it be do or die again
Will you come back / To me to me
Will you bring your best / Will you say to thems goodbye
Its alright / To be yourself I swear
Its not alright / To dump and front all night
Spending time / with me, with me
When times get tough / will you be there for me
Ive been there for you / Im the shoulder you leaned on
Where were you / promises you swore
Now I need a shoulder to lean on, lean on
In my darkest hour whoa, will you find me///// In the darkest hour whoa, we feel so free
In your darkest hour whoa, you find me ////// In the darkest hour whoa, we feel so free

Just now I recorded Paranoid, by Black Sabbath:
gotta keep this thread alive lol ;D
any comments or constructive criticism is much appreciated,
I might be my own worst critic and I put my comments below. Here is my cover of Stone Temple Pilots "Creep":
https://youtu.be/reekoRjxelE (https://youtu.be/reekoRjxelE)
GOOD STUFF:
-I equalized and mixed in the singing so it is not super on top of the mix, but still vocals are loud as I am trying to improve them
-pitchiness is a little better, that will come with time
-no hoarseness or pain from the distortion, and I did the full advanced third level 3 KTVA warmup just prior to this song
-I only worked on this song one day prior, pretty good
-mouth open "Ah" sound was very open for the distortion parts
STUFF I NEED TO WORK ON:
-maybe more open throat technique
-I saw my shoulders move some, I get carried away. I have a static 3/4 full chest but I want more, and that detracts and could lead to tenseness
-maybe too much distortion for this cover
-less hitting the consonants for glottal stop would be good. I do that all the compression that makes the consonants pop out a little more.
everdrone, my take is that you are too absorbed in the technique aspects to deliver the song.
even your self diagnosis of this latest round addresses nothing but technical details. what about the song?
you were loosening up on "new sensation". I was actually smiling thinking if you worked that out, you would have a piece of stage routine that had presence.
overall, you sound like you are being strangled or have gas. not being funny, but there is incredible tension in the delivery. somehow you have to start relaxing and delivering the song vs the mechanics.
I can only think of one suggestion at this point: what is a song you know and have loved to sing the tune since forever and you don't even have to think about singing it.
dp that song, completely relaxed and forget about the technical stuff. xmas carols is my escape. brainwashed with those my whole life I don't have to worry about the tune or the words, just the delivery.
thanks man, great words of wisdom there, I need to take it in and consider it
taking techniques to extremes is not a good thing for sure
thanks so much for the constructive criticism and the listen, I really appreciate it, cheers :-)
everdrone, this song kicks ass. if you did all the parts and vocals and the whole arrangement, that was great.
it sounds like the gang all having fun in the bar or something. also, the vocals serve the song. no tension either.
this one would jack the crowd up.

^those are solid rhythms. I was imagining lyrics and solos while they were playing, so yeah....
kind of couldn't hear the bass in all that(both songs), but idk what i'm supposed to be hearing wrt the song's construction/mix
cool harmonic interplay of some of the chords in the first riff of the first song. I would probably sit and play those chords over and over again too just to get that sound going haha
are you going to finish those into songs, or is this just riff exercise that wont go any further?
just curious.
==========================================================================
that's it, i'm stealing "punktry roads" from everdrone.
that is a genuine shitkicker and some people are gonna boogie when they hear it.
edit: key of B? B, f#,g# E mostly
thnks for the feedback, i kind of mix the bass to give some more low end since it´s a vst in some parts i don´t like the sound of it so i´m kind of cheating, yes i want to finished the songs add some solos and maybe some keyboards on some parts i think of it as some kind of sketchs, since i´m not a singer i won´t try to give it lyrics i´ll try to give a instrumental feeling.
Thanks again for the feedback
Here is a new track I recorded at home. It's called Poldergeist... I know the correct term is poltergeist but for Dutch reasons I've turned the t into a d... For lack of a better term I call the style "trance metal". Synths and beats were made with the Korg EMX-1. Love to hear your feedback!

I appreciate this jibberishI have thought a lot about the delivering and not being strangled or have gas, it really does have that sort of tone for me at that point! punktry roads aint my arrangement, but I encourage you to punk up covers :)
I recorded this one today with lots of vocal distortion, hopefully it sounds a little more pleasing. I think the main thing I am concerned about with technique is just avoiding hurting my voice cause sometimes the next day back of my throat is a bit sore. I am experimenting still, there are a million muscles in the neck and I am trying to create a relaxation response in my neck and throat and bear down with my diaphram/stomach muscles.
Here is another stone temple pilots cover by me: "Big bang baby", any constructive criticism or comments are appreciated thank you:
your constant practice has been improving various aspects of your singing skills.
for example, the ability to jump all over to hit the notes of the songs accurately.
and tell me you don't know a shitload of tunes now, with lyrics heh.
Also, at some point, you will have to find your own voice. You aren't ozzie or scott weiland. you are you.
I know what you mean about the sore throat the next day. I have been working on imitating elvis' "here comes santa claus" and "blue Christmas" exactly like he does them.
he has a very resonant voice that you really have to pull all your throat muscles tight to emulate
ps, to imitate stevie nicks, karate chop your throat while you sing HAHA.
cool thanks man, others have said that as well that I imitate the other singers so you are onto something. to me I sound like me, maybe a bit more of a covered sound when I sing grunge.
please disregard that video I shot last night, I got a scratchy throat today so I need to go back to ground zero with my technique, one of these days Ill get a skype camera and get some singing lessons through it from a rock singer that teaches distortion and rasp :-) I can sing clean fine with no throat issues for like 4 hours a day but I am doing something wrong for that distortion cause I cant be having a sore throat like that.
so, everdrone, it was suggested a while ago, but might be more helpful than you know: some of the elements of tuvan throat-singing (especially the way some of the rattlier/dirtier styles train you to tighten the muscles at just one level of the throat but leave the rest relaxed and open) could help you find the place where dirtier tones don't hurt you.
the main thing is that you have another pair of 'vocal cords/folds' down below the pair you use to talk. the lower pair (vestibular folds) can be engaged to provide 'dirt' to vocal tone without stressing the upper pair or more of the upper muscles. not being a teacher, i don't necessarily know the best way to start - it's a very intentional, meditative process to find and learn to use these muscles that most people don't use in normal life - but it may be part of your answer.
thanks brutha, I have watched those 'how to' use false cords, 'how to' do that cultural throat singing and have seen other metal heads do the cultural throat singing, tuvan or mongolian. it definitely is a similar thing. I hear my false chords being activated and feel the muffler rattling around in there, but I am tensing up something or what have you.
the youtubers try to explain it but its pretty hard to understand. my diaphram might just not be strong enough yet. Im gonna get the melissa cross videos soon and her warmups. I have been doing Ken Tamplin home study course and will look at his videos in it more closely too.

The guitars themselves were pretty sketchy, the one broke a string moments before we even recorded this haha.
Anyways, we're usually much heavier- as in Hard Rock, Classic rock, Psych rock, alternative .etc but in the absence of a drummer we figured we'd just put out some stripped down acoustic versions in the meantime. This is one of our more "mainstream, easy 4 chord" tracks-
I'd be open to any feedback you guys have- whether its on the song, the recording, the mixing or even the video! Let me know what you think.

matter of factually speaking, I recorded this clip in one take, with only practicing singing the song one time, sweet child O' mine (Guns N' Roses cover by Ron) :

From the other nite.mhopefully last time I sing backups.
See if this works. Thunderosa playing some Motorhead. or Poison Idea. I'm confused as who this song is by. Just learned it yesterday at rehearsal.
Boring video at first, but keep watching ;)

I think it would be good for me to do more clean songs for covers (maybe less for originals since I like heavy rock) so I figured I would start now. Had to give this song a go, Cream's White Room:

We go pretty out there on this one \m/,
My surf band played a Halloween show this past Monday night. We all decided to go as Droogs from Clockwork Orange but we couldn't find the proper jock straps and bowler hats in time.
I wore my Adidas track suit (which I bought like two years ago...not as a costume I might add) The sax player, who was sitting in with us, went as the Dude...drummer a hippie...lead guitar the devil and other guitar an 80's rocker. It would've looked cooler if we had all dressed alike but it was still pretty cool anyway.
Here's a video of that a buddy of ours made of the evening
Made a vid with live recording and footage.
Just finished videotaping and recording a new song:

After I learned Dragonaut for Bandhub, my band ended up playing a cover of it for our 4/20 show this week... with a twist.

I shot this video a few years ago (2014) but I could only upload it recently. I had a great time playing this instrumental theme and also made a few funny faces here and there (besides my epic/ridiculous vocal fx). As an anecdote, I extended the final part around 5 minutes more than the usual because I accidentally rolled back the guitar's volume knob a little bit, so I couldn't get any feedback.

Thunderosa at Heavy Rebel Weekender in Winston-Salem last night. A band cancelled so we added a second set which featured burlesque dancers, a jar of moonshine, and some physics-defying beer can action towards the end of this clip

SANDIA MAN Mk1 opened for Nick Oliveri on his acoustic tour many years back.
I had been hit on my bike by an SUV and my fretting hand was smashed, so it was me on vocals/hi-hat PaulE tambourine, Jon on the PaulE whack-box, Sven on bass, & Brian Beeler filling in admirably on guitar.

I'm almost done recording my 3rd solo album so I thought I'd share the most recent preview track and see what people think.
I also figured what the hell and here's a video from a really cool band I was in a couple years ago. It's also a good example of how a GoPro can make a fat person look amazingly fat when viewed from the side with the fish eye lens. I sang and played bass on this track. This band was really good it was a huge bummer when it broke up. Great bunch of guys to hangout w/ too.

'In The Fall (acoustic version with hatred in the heart and nervous hands)' was recorded on July 10th, 2019 with Photo Booth and edited in a not so basic way with iMovie, I'm not a professional musician so there are a few mistakes but nothing too serious.
Audio only. Recorded during a rehearsal on September 19, 2019 using an iPhone 3GS. No external microphones were used. "Bienvenidos al Caos", a completely spontaneous jam, starts at 00:30.
Not sure if this will work. Prolly belongs in the old synth thread anyways. I brought my Moog upstairs to try and get myself to play more. Here's some noodling.
