This looks interesting. What was it about? Did you like it?

It's about a Chinese cabbie who is swamped in debt. He is asked to go to Korea to assasinate someone and his debt will be wiped away. While he is in China studying his potential victim, he looks for his wife that disappeared. As in most movies, nothing goes as planned and he is now being targeted by the cops, the Chinese mafia and the man who originally asked him to do the killing in the first place. Great action film and there are two chase scenes that blew me away. The first one involves him escaping a high rise building from the cops and running through the streets of this city in China and the second one involves him trying to escape from the Mafia and the man who hired him to kill from a shipping yard/docks. Most American action films involve guns and shooting people but in this movie there were only two bullets fired and the rest of the hand to hand combat involved knives and axes. If you like Asian cinema this is higly recommended.

Sounds good! Thanks for the synopsis! I'll definitely check this out.

Decent film. I actually thought Clooney was good in this film.

Nothing great, but not bad either. It's about these Americans that are in Russia for either business or pleasure and suddenly and Alien invasion takes everything over. The Aliens get their power from electricity so basically everything in its way is destroyed. Well, the Americans miraculously survive and now must find a way to get home as well as find a way to destroy these Aliens.

Elizabeth Olsen is definitely the most talented of the Olsen sisters, and she gets bonus points for showing her tits and ass. Worth the rent.

great fucking movie.  unsettling.

Saw this last night. meh-ish.

Also saw this the other night.  Good but an abrupt ending

Feel-good dreck you can watch with your granny, and nobody gets offended. Predictable and bland, semi-enjoyable but not essential viewing.

Meh.

At one point I actually wanted to see this, but I have a long standing policy to never anything with Sandra Bullock in it.

Spoiler alert: The character she plays is really sassy.

I got through about the first 20 minutes of this and decided I couldn't do it. Sandra Bullock's character was just too predictable. The whole thing seemingly was ...

Black Death

It was ok the shaky cam thing was pretty annoying. Boromir and some other Christian soldiers guided by a monk go on a quest to a village unaffeced by the bubonic plague as they suspect it is the work of some necromancer. Their mission is verify this and hunt down the necromancer. The violence depicted was pretty gruesome.

The Divide

Plot: Nuclear war happens in NYC and a bunch people take shelter in their building's basement. As cabin fever sets in, and attacks from the outside happen, the group, morally and physically, start to decay, turning some into savages and others to fend for themselves.

Review: The first 30 minutes is kind of bad as you get your standard cheesy acting, lines. After that though, it starts getting intense and really never lets up as far as getting that claustrophobic/hopelessness feel. This is definitely one of Michael Biehn's best performances. One of the better post-apocalyptic movies since Blindness. If you've been feeling down, I do not recommend watching this movie as you'll only end up hating humanity even more.

Actually not bad, a lot better than the first one.  Still, only recommended for exploitation/extreme movie fans.

Monsieur Lazhar

10/10 I absolutely loved this film. Everything was excellent the children's acting themes explored etc.

Watch the trailer:

6/10 Mehs. I didn't like the acting from the Asian lead characters. Kind of a mess as far as the message, too.

I loved Gran Torino. Some of the greatest dialog/one liners I've ever seen.

Just watched that Yellow Sea, that was an excellent choice.

I hated 'Gran Torino'. I thought it was pretty embarrassing in terms of the predictability of the plot plus the male Hmong character was a terrible, terrible actor. Everything was like cliche in terms of gang members, the family (on both sides), etc. Just a really bad effort, imo.
