Crap spelling or not, I'd take a chance on that guitar for $10.
yeah for parts even, if it was closer.
I'll buy just about any electric guitar for $10. I've sold stuff like this for $30-$40 at garage sales and then sell them a First Act amp I bought to go along with it. Probably the best deal I ever got from a Craigslist ad was on a Soundgear bass. came with gig bag and amp. Paid $40 for all and sold the bass for $179 on eBay.

It is a Marshall Mosfet Lead 100 with clean or distortion and reverb on and off on the 2 switch foot peddel. It is like 2 amps. Has a 4x12 top box lead VS124 model that is a 140 watt with it. Very Nice sound it works great. It is for sale at a very good price for this system. It is a tube amplifier . This system is made for the lead guitar. It is worth every penny. No will not sale the 4/12 box by it's self. This is a very well put together set.
wow
Whoa! Special mosfet tubes? Does it have a violin bow rectifier? The filter caps must be sausage.

"Channel 3 - Overdrive Lead
This is where it gets pretty serious... handle with care... ever see the movie "The Rock" with Sean Connery playing some badass criminal and Nick Cage playing his pansy self? You know those little balls of disease death that the whole movie is about? One false move with one of those and your toast.... same deal with the lead channel on this amp.
Do what Sean Connery should have done and free the world of Nick Cage and his bad acting by putting this channels gain at 6 and blowing Nick Cage up. Thats all youll need. Marshall and I both take no responsibility for gain levels beyond 6....EQ shared with crunch channel.
I play some 90s rock, some posthardcore, some metalcore... this amp hasnt let me down yet. If anything my playing has let this amp down, and that's why it's leaving me for you.
Comes with 5 way switch (can switch reverb and effects loop in or out + all three channels)
$700 OBO
NO SHIPPING/WESTERN UNION/PAYPAL/PRINCE OF NIGERIA BIRTHDAY BULLSHIT"
I guess this guy doesn't really care for Nick Cage.

Willing to trade or sell Beautiful condition excellent sounds. In like new condition. Perfect for someone wanting to learn and then invest is a great guitar later.
I bought this before I discovered that I have no talent or coordination or patience to learn. This guitar is in perfect shape, I want someone to
enjoy it, for me it's just a constant reminder of how little talent and ability I have. So someone please buy this guitar and save me from doing something stupid like
backing over it with my truck or lighting it on fire. So if you have any sympathy for this lovable little wooden instrument you can save it's life. In 5 days it will be
charcoal and wire, Willing to take reasonable offer of cash or trade. The dog is not for sale at any price.

i saw this yesterday and thought you'd be all over it!!
Not a link to anything whacky on CL, but just wanted to relay how frustrating the stream of lowballers are when posting something for sale.
I've been lowballed so badly that I now tell them that if they can legitimately find the same item I'm selling ANYWHERE online for what they've just offered, they can have mine FREE of charge. And I'm not kidding.
Another gripe, everyone always says "I'll give you $XXX cash today..." for whatever. Seriously, what other form of payment am I going to accept with a classified ad? With PayPal, I'd eat 10%, so that's not up for discussion. Am I going to take a check? Discover card? Barter for chickens?
*editor's note: I, myself, have offered less than the asking price, but never less than 80% or so of the asking price. And never ever when anything about a "firm price" is mentioned (I always list an item at the lowest I would take and put "price is firm" on my ads).
Quote from: Jake on July 21, 2012, 02:09:26 PM
With PayPal, I'd eat 10%, so that's not up for discussion.
FYI: If you make a paypal purchase as a gift, you don't eat the fees. There's no buyer protection that way so it won't do you much good on CL, but for deals with stand up dudes (SRLives.comrades for example) it can come in pretty handy.
I'm getting a lot of people moaning my shit is overpriced, citing for sale ads that are broken down pieces of shit, and sometimes ads that are scam bait, vs my restored revalved, recapped and fully working amps. If it's cheaper elsewhere, why aren't you buying it there?
Anyway, I like having amps, and I also like lots of money, therefore I put my amps up for sale in public places for lots of money, because either way I win. Selling them cheap would mean no amps and not much money and fuck that. Shit's listed cheaper in places where they'll be bought to play music.
Lowballers, gripers and such amuse me at best, I just hit 'em with a "don't buy it then" verbal/textual shrug.
But why?

We had a shit storm on my local looking for musicians listings yesterday. Some of these people take their crappy bands way too seriously. Here's the gist of it:
Ira kicked me out of the band because I missed a practice... I had to go see my doctor because I have prostate cancer!
Well I've known Ira for 15 years with no problems
On a scale of 1 to 100, I'd give Ira's band an 8.

Trying to get rid of our piano. Free to anyone willing to come get it (it's very heavy and will need 2-3 men I would assume). This piano was given to me a few years ago. However we never did anything with it. It's VERY out of tune, and I'm not sure if it is even "tunable". Just hate to take it to the dump in case someone may want it. Please call/text 936@714@6569.
Check out the model of this piano it is a Chickering and Sons 67BB. Now check this out...

$11,995 for the same model piano...chances are that the free one is in terrible condition and would take a huge chunk of money to fix it up.
I've always wondered, could you tune a piano with a good chromatic tuner?
My only experience of piano tuning was a blind guy with a set of tuning forks would come tune it.

We posted a tanning bed on craigslist for $2000.00. A man named Kasten Daniel became interested in the post and he replied back numerous times asking questions about the tanning bed. He informed me that he could pay $1900.00 through paypal. I agreed to this since I would only be losing $100.00. Kasten sent me another email back saying that he would also send money for a money gram so his pick-up agent can pick the tanning bed up and deliver to his wife in North Carolina. The amount for the money gram was $600.00 and he included $100.00 for any extra cost that might occur. I received an email from Paypal saying that in order for the money to occur in my account I must first show proof of a money gram in order to protect the buyer and the seller. I emailed paypal back and forth several times complaining that I do not have the money and that I would need the $600.00 being sent to me in order to send the money gram. Paypal continued to send messages informing me that the money could not be broken up in sections and that the transaction could not be closed. I have always used paypal so I assumed this was a safe transaction. The next day I borrowed the money for the moneygram from my brother assuring him I would pay him back that day. I later received another email from paypal saying that the transaction was complete and since the sum was a great amount to wait 12 business hours for the transaction to take place. The transaction never came so I then called paypal and informed them of this situation and they replied saying they never received any money and they have no record of $2600.00 waiting to enter my bank account. I forwarded the email to a lady I spoke to at paypal and she replied back informing me the email was fake. So now I owe my brother $600.00 and I am out of $2600.00. The pick up agent was Jamiu Momodu, north carolina.
Best response I got lately:

Every CL response that's not something like,
"Hey man, do you still have the _______? Would you take $___ for it?" is a fraud/scam/fake/bullshit.
I was being sarcastic. It's unreal how many fuckers read my ad that says FIRM, and then offer me less than half. Oh well, good excuse to keep my gear.
Ok, gotcha.
Another absurd thing I see more frequently on CL is people who list items they're interested in trading for something WAY, WAY more valuable.
For example: Some dude was trying to trade some little, shitball, RadioShack caliber PA speakers for a Gibson SG. Specifically not an Epiphone SG. A Gibson SG.
I posted the guy with the BC Rich Bronze Warlock, that he valued at $650, right. Two other people are now listing theirs at $150 (used) and $199 (new) every time he renews his posts ;D
Good thing to watch for on simple craigslist scams, when the From: email address and the Reply-To: email address are different, ie. hit reply, see what email address comes up, then hit cancel. If they're different report that sucker.

That's legit, the RD Artist had Moog gubbins, expander/compressor and some sort of harmonic/brightness thing. My mate has one and I'm waiting on him getting bored of it.

Neat!
why would anyone put frets on a violin?
For maximum rocking of course.
I guess if you couldnt really play a violin you might desire to have one with frets, but you'd lose the ability to glissando which to me is one of the signature qualities of the violin. >:( It would be like a guitar with unbendable strings.

Actually, I went to the manufacturer's website, which claims...
"While a fretted violin may seem unusual, the system developed by Wood Violins is unique in several aspects. The frets are flatter under the higher strings, allowing slides, vibrato and expressiveness similar to a fretless instrument.
One advantage of a fretted Viper is how quickly it makes multi-note chords easier to produce. If you've ever spent hours working to get perfect intonation on some arpeggios or multi-note chords you will appreciate the benefits of frets (easy quadruple stops, anyone?). Unlike a guitar, the finger is actually placed on top of the fret rather than in between frets, which gives you the familiar feel of the distance from the nut, but also allowing you a tiny bit of leeway with the accuracy of your finger placement, improving speed and intonation.
We recommend frets or fretless based on your playing style, and frequently the familiar feel of the fretless fingerboard under your string can be desirable. Contact us for advice on choosing frets or fretless."

The skeptic in me says...close but no cigar. If youve ever played a fingered fretless string instrument you can easily imagine what even thin frets would do to gliss and microtones, not to mention "feel".
who knows tho, I'm not a violinist (not since I was a wee lad at least)
chorThe chords thing is ins=teresting..I guess they are suggestion plucked chords? I dont see how to bow a chord acrooss three strings that are at different heights or on an arc like a violins are.

This should say 'If you can't be fucked to spend hours...'
You can play chords as an arpeggio. Those multi note chords, as opposed to the chords that are one note.
"chords that are one note"
Sounds like a lot of these doom bands going today.

The senoritas won't be able to resist you when they see you playing this sleek ebony chick-magnet. You've seen the commercials on TV, and we all know that if it's on TV, it has to be good. Now's your chance to own the real thing. Why settle for cheap imitators like Martin, Gibson and Taylor when you can own the REAL Esteban Guitar at a steal of a price? The price is so low that you can buy several and start your own ESTEBAND!
People love Esteban and his music because it has the power to CHANGE YOUR LIFE! Just read what this fan had to say:

Yeah, so utterly fake. When I first saw the pics I fell out a-laughin'. The seller is actually a pawn shop in Batesville*, AR. I briefly thought they got burned too, but axing 1000 bucks indicates to me they know it's a fucking fugazi..

I think we could get Batesville radio station once in a while at ole miss. on my pioneer super tuner lol. car stereo was seriously behind the curve for a while there, but it did catch up. trying to think of the bigger AK station we got quite well. oh yeah Jonesboro came in strong, that's it...
I gotta ask what y'all see wrong, other than the obviously misshapen body...not that you need to see much more than that hahahaha.
The body is the wrong shape.
The headstock is the wrong shape.
The logo on the headstock is wrong.
There are slots in the studs for adjusting the bridge height (only thumb wheel adjustments on a Gibson).
The fretboard is not ebony, but rosewood. All Customs will have ebony for the vintage he claims.
The headstock split diamond inlay is undersized.
The trustrod cover is wrong.
The case is wrong.
Ad that's just from his pics. I guarantee you it's a mess in the cavities too. And I'm sure the binding not only does not cover the fret nubs along the neck, but is way too thick around the headstock.
I guess there's the LOL moment when you realize it's not an archtop either. Plus I don't think silverburst shows the grain like that.

One Mojo Hand for acoustic guitar, consecrated with High John the Conqueror oil.
Contains a tropical herb considered to be the testicle of the Devil (Elegua).
Gives a sweet blues tone, makes old strings sound new and creates natural overdrones and distortion.
Just drop the mojo into the sound hole and let fall to the bottom. Try it with and without the Mojo to hear the difference. This Mojo will not work inside solid body electric guitars or acoustics with magnetic pickups.
To attract money wrap 2 dollars around it (preferably a two dollar bill from a leap year with a mercury dime from a leap year) and carry it in your pocket.
To releive joint pain before playing hold it in the hand snugly for 60 seconds before playing.
To attract women carry it in your left front pocket.
If the Mojo stops working inside the guitar take it out and tap it a few times on a table so that it rattles again.
I am not responsible for any misfortune that may befall you, by tampering with the device or improper use. If you are unhappy with the item, send it back and I will return half your money. as it has no resale value used i must destroy it by fire.
Obvious scam.

Here's a link to a brief discussion with some guys who have:

And a cat playing one:
"Robin Guitars is a boutique guitar manufacturer located in Houston, Texas.
The company was formed in 1982 by Dave Wintz who owned the Rockin' Robin Guitar Shop at the time. Robin guitars were made in Japan by Tokai and Chushin until 1986, when their production moved to the United States.[1] Notable endorsers include Stevie Ray Vaughan and his brother Jimmie, who were frequently seen onstage with the "RDN" 6-string standard neck/6 string octave neck double-neck guitar in the 1980s. Eric Johnson has played them, and Stevie Blaze of Lillian Axe also played Robin guitars during the early part of his career. [2] Robin guitars and basses have featured pickups from their sister company, Rio Grande Pickups since 1994.[3]
Robin Guitars announced on its website that it stopped production of guitars as of December 1, 2010; although production of Rio Grande Pickups continues."

And their website:

The Robin is still for sale, but I'm unable to snag at the moment. Gotta get a case for the 12-string before I do any more gear whoring.

Usually spelled squire. See above...
my favorite is "its not working at the moment but is an easy fix"...well then fix it first mothrfucker, THEN sell it.
I personally like
"Everything is perfect, except..."
Well then clearly everything is not perfect.
People seem to take liberties with what is "all original" here. For the longest time there was an older Jazzmaster on Denver CL that was listed as "all original" but footnoted a couple of modifications – one was that Dimarzio humbuckers were installed. Another slight modification was that it was sanded down and brush painted black.
Currently there's a Marshall amp being sold that "...is an all original 50 watt head from '76." But it started out as a combo amp that has been rehoused in a new smallbox chassis. That seems like a far cry from original to me. Sheesh. People.

Weird Tranny Bassist looking for Weirdos To Make Weird Music :D (Denton)
Hi :D thanks for taking the time to read my ad!
so yeah, i'm a bassist in the area and an avid crossdresser lol it's fun.
So i've been having this itch to start up a weird rock, sort of punk, funk, crazy, off the wall, fun musical project for a while now. I've played around here for a while, currently have a great band i play with, but i'm a composer!! I must play as much cool music as I can, music I love to create. Music that doesn't really follow typical song norm conventions, just fun creative different music than some of the other artists you may hear around town.
My background in music is very ecclectic. Yes i have a degree in music, composition was my main focus. I listen to Death Metal. I can play the blues. Doowop and Oldies music is some of my favorite music to listen to. I like Justin Timberlake's music. I listen to Tv Themes recreationally. I'm all over the place. It's very hard for me to find something I don't like in all music.
Here's a short list of influential musicians in my life:
Les Claypool, James Brown, Weird Al, Peter Steele, Mike Patton, Trey Spruance, Frank Zappa, Dimebag Darrell, Max Cavalera, The Residents, Bootsy Collins, Peter Gabriel, Robert Fripp, Tony Levin, Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, etc....
Music is my life. I am career minded. This is what I'm going to do with my life, and that is music.
If you're interested in jamming with me and the musicians I jam with, please feel free to write me an email with your contact information included, and we can go from there. ^.^
Have a great day!

I have never heard of a "Fender Stratocaster Drum Set" before, and I doubt I'll hear of one again:

By gum, you're onto something there!!
Fender makes awesome drums. At least on par with Zildjian effects pedals and Chevrolet cymbals.
Better than Takamine cigars or O'Brien's tequila, I'll bet.
fender made damn near every musical instrument at one point or another. I couldnt find a fender saxophone, so I guess the never bothered with brass.
Yamaha makes good quality musical instruments, plus ski mobiles, motorcycles and stereos, etc etc.
A local dude in one of the bands around here sings and plays bass. He's got crap equipment, but both and the band as a whole are a riot and their shows are fun.
Anyway, one night someone gave him shit for his Yamaha bass. Dude says " Gibson don't make no motorcycle!"

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 19, 2002)
Les Paul Indian guitar commemorates new Indian® Chief™ motorcycle
Bikers, rev your guitars. Gibson is celebrating the new Indian® Chief™ motorcycle with a limited-edition, Les Paul Indian guitar. The two-tone guitar from Gibson's Custom, Art & Historic Division has many of the same stylized features as the classic Indian Chief, including the signature war bonnet headdress, flowing chrome detailing and six custom color combinations, including a red/black metallic scheme reminiscent of the first Chiefs produced in the 1920s.
Kenny Olson, lead guitarist for Kid Rock and aficionado of classic motorcycles, played the new Les Paul Indian guitar on the mtvICON:Aerosmith show and was impressed with its performance. "It sounded like a seasoned Les Paul, with a fat bottom end and bright, perky highs," Olson says. "There's nothing like it, it's a beautiful piece of art. I was glad to be a part of it. I got a lot of phone calls after the show, telling me how cool it looked and how great it sounded."
A custom-made lacquered display wall cabinet, leatherette case with chrome hardware, Indian Motorcycle concho strap, and Certificate of Authenticity enhance the guitar's collectibility. Fine detailing includes the inlaid chrome die cast headdress and chrome fender molding on the body, "Indian" mother of pearl script on the fingerboard, engraved truss rod cover, and bead blasted back plates.
Only 100 made-to-order Gibson Indian guitars will initially be produced. All of the Chief's two-tone color combinations will be offered: red/black, blue/silver, black/cream, crimson/cream and copper/black.
The 2002 Chief sports a new Indian Powerplus™ 100 V-Twin engine, the first engine designed by Indian in 50 years and, at 100 cubic inches, it is the largest American OEM V-Twin engine. The signature serrated, billet-aluminum rocker boxes and black, rounded cylinders harken to the glory days of Indian's 102-year history.
"The Indian Motorcycle and Gibson Guitar partnership is a natural. Both brands have 100-plus year histories of classic design and outstanding performance," says Fran O'Hagan, Indian Motorcycle Sr. VP of Marketing and Product Management.
Gibson is known worldwide for producing classic models in every major style of fretted instrument, including acoustic and electric guitars, mandolins and banjos. Founded in 1894 in Kalamazoo, MI, and headquartered in Nashville since 1984, Gibson Guitar Corp.'s family of brands now includes Epiphone, Dobro, Kramer, Steinberger, Tobias, Slingerland, Trace Elliot, Maestro, Baldwin, Chickering and Wurlitzer. Visit Gibson's website at www.gibson.com.
Indian Motorcycle Corporation (IMC), based in Gilroy, California, was formed in 1998 to re-launch an American icon. The original Indian Motorcycle Company, which built the first American-made motorcycle in 1901, was a leading motorcycle manufacturer for almost 50 years. IMC currently designs, manufactures and markets three premium heavyweight motorcycles and a broad range of related products, parts, accessories, riding gear and lifestyle apparel. Good God.
Some cocksucker in Atlanta saw my CL ad for my Dan Armstrong and is trying to trade me for a 2005 Les Paul Custom – one that he "bought new for $2,800, but doesn't have orginal case."
Major red flag.
His pictures show a relatively legit looking Gibson, but I've got a motherfucking eagle eye for Chinese Gibsuns, so he does not know I'm the wrong sumbitch to try to be hustling. I'm going to string him along and drop the fucking hammer. Not sure exactly how yet. Any suggestions? No law enforcement... strictly self-policing community vigilante justice. I would be morally okay with jacking him on a trade and just taking his guitar. I'd be saving someone else from getting ripped off that way.
Assholes like this are chipping away at the clean conscious I've enjoyed so far with my counterfeit guitar.
let it go, not worth the trouble.
But Mr. Anchovy, I've got the time and inclination. Aaaaaand the clear moral highground (for once!).
Jake, ill take the Fibson from you for justice.
I want one to play live :-(
I'd say get all his personal info, get pics of the guitar, then go public. Post all his info and pics of fiddle on CL. I see that kind of shit happening in Dallas from time to time.
Saw a plank into the outline of a Dan Armstrong and write 'Dan Armstrong (not fake, honest) on it with crayon. Arrange to do the trade, but make him do the travel.
Edit: I assume its a $250 fake and a few grand worth of instrument the other way, so should get some effort out of him.
I think he's onto me because I asked for some pics of the electronics and some close ups of the headstock.
Let's see just how dumb he is.

Gotta appreciate the honesty (and the term "angry butt-hole metal)...
"We're looking for buskers, street and coffee shop musicians to play weekend gigs at the Idalia Road Marketplace in Rio Rancho.
If you play for tips and CD sales we're the place for you.
Our needs are for people who can perform Saturdays and/or Sundays from 11AM to 1PM, or thereabouts.
We provide a powered amp/mixer, two mics and stands, Yamaha speakers, a monitor, power a tip box and lots of encouragement for people to tip. You provide the music.
We're an open air market and our primary demographic is women from 30 to 70 .... so, as much as I like a wide variety of sounds we can't have ScreamO, Hip-hop, Grunge (if anyone's still playing that) angry butt-hole metal, depressing songs about the end of life, etc, etc. Our grove out here is upbeat, classical guitar, folk, country, world, mainstream rock, your own music as long as it's not going make folks want to kick puppies, or jump from bridges.
Contact us by email if you're interested and send us a link so we can listen to your music if it's on the net.
Check us out at .................. www.idaliaroadmarketplace.com .................... You can also find us on Facebook.
Thanks,
Marc"

One way to destroy a Gibson 12-string: leaving it unstrung for years.
http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/msg/4043931702.html
:(
it says unstrung for a year..whats the prob? what does leaving it unstrung do? no neck tension?
Im sure it's fine, honestly. Out there in the desert, you don't have to worry about warping like that. Drying out? Different story...
Only $400? Isn't that, like, a great deal? I don't know much about acoustics.
Ponder this for a moment: a strung 12-string has about 240 lbs. of tension on the neck.

I work on guitars, AND wood, as hobbies and business. With some time for it to adjust, it will be fine.

Don't even need truss rods, they are for adjustment, not support. All that tension, it can be taken by the cores of the strings, so doesn't need that much. Some dude had a cry about the risk of the aluminium necks I am making breaking under string tension, and I hadn't done enough research. Guess he didn't research as far as basses have necks made of wood.
Hahaha. So, when can I get my hands on one, Oli?

Yep, I was fooled by one on Craigslist. Turns out that body is really, really small.
I had never spent time on Craigslist, but recently put my Roland V-Drums up for sale. I've had about 8 replies, all scammers. "Yeah, let me run over to Western Union and send you some money to facilitate this transaction once you send me a check for more than the amount I'm asking. I understand that you're a marine and are stuck on a military base, but would like to purchase without even seeing it in person, and you'll arrange for your 'shipper' to come by and pick it up."
Do people actually fall for this shit?
It's a numbers game. So perhaps within millions or tens of millions or so scam/spam responses sent, there's maybe a sucker or two, fresh off the turnip truck.

13 fake ads a day! Do not send your info/pictures out! (South Austin) tired of seeing the same shitty fake ads?
tell craigslist your sick of it!
You know the creepy guy who calls you from a private number and immediately starts interviewing you. He also refuses to let you hear any of his stuff saying that it's all about the chemistry. Maybe he tells you, you guys have the same name.
He posts a ton of ads all with generic photos and strange age limits of 21-45 or he'll try to slightly change it to 20-43. Stuff like that. FOREVER over-posting and just degrading the community experience in general. its a shame, because music partners is tough without a serial spammer ruining the board.

WTT House full of furniture for your les paul (Rio Rancho)
Today only offer. I am moving to a new house this weekend and I don't want to take this stuff with me. I have a queen size bed and box spring with frame. The paper on the underside of the box spring is torn up from cats and the head board is missing a pin strip slate but otherwise great condition. I have a bedroom entertainment 2 drawer dresser and a 3 drawer dresser with a mirror attachment. I also have 1bedside dresser. All of these are in great shape. I also have a full size couch and loveseat. The arms on both are pretty torn up but the cusions are still comfortable. I cant deliver, sorry pick up only. This is a one day deal because im moving and after that it will go to good will. I am looking to trade for a Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul and would consider mid to late seventies law suit guitars as well. Would also consider Orange amp or vox depending on what you got. So if your lady is telling you to ditch the ax and get some furniture im your guy. I can send pictures on request and low ballers will be told politely no. Text with what you got or any questions. My number is Colorado but I live in Rio Rancho. Thank you and have a nice day.

I had a session work ad titled "#5 Bassist 2013 Austin Music Awards avail for session work."
And titled my ad as such because it was feb and it was the last month until the next years readers poll results came out.
It's not a ranking musical merit, but just goes to show that enough people appreciate you and/or the band you play in enough to take the time to vote.
But he didn't see it that way:
From Bubba Rankin (if that is his real name. If so HAHAHAHA)
"# 5 best bass player in austin 2013 ?
c'mon man, you gotta be kidding, right ?
there's at least 10-15 that i don't even have to think hard about that will eat your lunch in a bass pissing contest.....only difference is they don't need the fake puffy ego bullshit that you need, to prove their chops.....they know who & what they are and those who know music & bass, know who they are
so, you got to #5 same way as you're trying now ? by recruiting votes on your facebook ?
Wow ! what a piece of work you are dude.....fake ego bullshit....just a shell of a human being....just like that ego swag you walk around with down there on 6th st, where you're too high & mighty to smile at, greet, acknowledge other musicians in other bands, as if they're lowly peons ?

Sounds like you have your own personal Don G.
I met up with Danny G, I have only great things to say about him! definitely the opposite of whatever that other jealous dude said.
almost all Craigslist ads provide me WITHOUT ANY OF THE FOLLOWING DETAILS:
1) THEIR MUSIC, ANY RECORDINGS AT ALL!!!
2) what the musician(s) look like
3) no videos for me to evaluate their stage presence
4) no ages listed
5) no details on transportation, what type of "pro gear", how many times a week they practice, what their realistic goals and contacts are
6) what zip code they are located in
(!!!)
Some of that stuff is probably best discussed through email after contact is made. I would feel weird putting all of that info on Craigslist.
How big of a deal is stage presence? Some people aren't interested in/good at looking like they are rocking out while they play.
This weirdo posts several ads a week. People occasionally post response ads about his persistence and futility. Someone mentioned that he was the singer for Shit Finger which I'm assuming is Gold Finger as they have ties around here. i know nothing about them but vaguely remember the name.

Some of that stuff is probably best discussed through email after contact is made. I would feel weird putting all of that info on Craigslist.
How big of a deal is stage presence? Some people aren't interested in/good at looking like they are rocking out while they play.
thanks for the feedback, I prolly need to rethink this as my thoughts seem to be going against the grain
it may be the way it is for a reason
I'd suggest that, if stage presence is important to you and your bandmates, you might as well mention it up front.
Well, I would totally be in a band with that guy. And by "be in a band with" I mean "have anus-tearing buttfuck sessions with."
That's the "Tequila-Infused Pork Explosions!!" guy, right? Was in Van Halen for a minute ?
If you are worried about what musicians look like you might be a poser.
I already said I am rethinking what I posted. My point was that someone within 40 miles of where you live posts and ad saying "this is my vision, I like these bands/genres and I am a good musician, no really" without saying they have any recordings of themselves or what have you;
and you therefore basically have to weed through a bunch of ads for "blind dates"! ;D
The more info in the initial ad the better...how is sharing "too much" a bad thing exactly?
"Well, that's a lot of info, I dunno..."
I was thinking about that, I mean I have my band name and music on soundcloud/soundclick/bandcamp/myspace/reverbnation/ and its not like tons are listening and will somehow pirate the name and songs, last craigslist ad I posted not much listen - count really
here is my current craigslist "draft", maybe I should take out the gear but its not like I am giving them my personal address in the ad and a lot of folks have 810s and rick4003s so...
constructive criticism on my draft of my craigslist ad is much appreciated :)

I cant be around illegal activity, it is that simple. not sarcasm. no judgement, I just cant be around it and that is my personal situation.
Specify that then, otherwise you're gonna get people asking/assuming it's a joke (or that you're a bit of a joker.)
ok thank you friends for your help :), I put the sentence: "This is not a joke, I cannot be around illegal activity."
Just so you know, I would probably not respond to that ad. Too much about what I should look like rocking out. I'm a fuckin player. Shouldn't matter.

thanks man good call, I revised that aspect of it as I don't want to alienate a Tommy Iommi (he does not move around like Angus Young or anything)
here is my revised version, thanks all :)

black sabbath video with Iommi:
You seem to emphasize the more superficial aspects of the band experience (physical appearance, gear, the "cool" clubs in which want you want to be seen on stage) rather than general enthusiasm for having fun and making good music. If that's important to you, then by all means, keep it a priority. But I would perhaps pass over the ad, even though it may be right in my wheelhouse, musically. Sorry if that sounds overly sensitive or critical.
If I were to imagine the "ideal" ad that would cast the widest net for like-minded players, it might be something like this:
Bassist looking to join or form heavy band. Experienced, reliable, good gear, and enthusiastic. Check out some of my tunes, and if we're on the same page, let's have a beer and a conversation.

During your consequential email exchanges, you could drop the NO WEED bomb, rather than in the ad itself. Because like it or not, it just screams no fun/buzzkill as it is in your ad.
thanks brutha, it is true I just wanna make good music, I wish I did not have a weed bomb to drop, I will make some more changes, thanks for the help :)
Plus most people (most not all) who play this style of music do drugs of some sort so that coupled with the "I am overly worried about how prospective band members look" vibe that your ad puts out is probably going to set you up for a very long and not so fruitful search for band members. I wish you good luck with your search though.
very true! Thank you friend, I appreciate your insights :)
I think many musicians in Austin do illegal activity, last band did not do drugs and wanted to have a show for 700 people without any permits in front of their house; I learned their cover songs and they accepted me as a band member but after I learned that they were about to do this show when they told me after the first practice I had to exit. Austin is somewhat lenient but I cannot be involved with illegal activity; maybe I should be even more general and just go with:
Bassist available
...and broaden my scope to include cover bands, tribute bands, other genres...
You should mention the sleeveless vest. ;)
I think it's good you're laying out exactly what you have to offer and exactly what you are looking for.
Finding players (especially in THIS town) that don't smoke weed will be a challenge. Finding ones who do but are respectful of your situation to not do it around you will not be the challenge you think it is. Most folks here are generally cool and understanding.
As per wordings of ads in general, less is always more.
Some ads by obvious hobby players can be like blog posts. No one gives a shit about your musical journey starting from age 5 except YOU.
If a player looking: name, rank, serial number, experience and musical proficiency.
Bands looking for members: vital stats of project, goals if any, paid gig or not, style, rehearsal/gig schedule. Keep it simple and no bullshit. If it's the musical equivalent of Tuesday night bowling with the guys, say that.

lol I have spent a lot of time in humor/joking/fantasy land but fortunately this forum is helping me get my collective stuff together and be more presentable as a viable musician ;D still plan on buying the sleveless vest :D :D :D
There was a series of ads last year looking for a bassist for a Viking Metal Band.
The ad was rather tongue in cheek and full of Conan the Barbarian references among others.
It was so awesome and fun reading, had I not been so pressed for time I would have jammed with those dudes for the hell of it.

In Texas if cops find weed on one person in a group do they charge everyone with possession?
As a person in sales, you never lay all your cards on the table at first. You have to give them a reason to contact you and then get a conversation started and then tell them your plight. I don't think you're going to get many responses.
Thank you Rager :)
ya, I really need to:
1) rethink my goals
2) rethink my sales strategy
3) THEN, revise my craigslist draft
good thing I did not show them my cards yet, cheers :)
my goals are being in an original heavy rock band (blues rock based like Sabbath/Zeppelin). I do not want to tour more than one week a year and maybe regional show on a weekend(s), so ya musical equivalent of bowling as these types/genres of local bands I watch get crowd turnouts of only like 10-40 people and not that many gigs. I could be convinced to do other heavy rock styles, and maybe could do a sales pitch on others that have other interests...
also I have a goal to be in a cover band but I need to work up my stamina in my frethand for 3 hour sets and learning all those songs. So cover band stuff may be a good idea to do later on really but I might be able to hack it...
More details now saves hassle later in my experience. I don't want to find out you're against weed after I've lugged my shit across town ;) I'm not even smoking these days--too draconian 'round here w/ the job-killing McTests--I'm just using this as an example. By being this specific you're in a better chance to land who you want. Being vague early on yet firm in your parameters isn't gonna increase candidates at all, it just takes longer to get there.
If I do answer a vague ad, I suggest hanging/meeting at a show or something first, to see what kind of folks they are. I'm not gonna go jam w/ someone if they don't even like Black Sabbath ! I mean, come on nau :P
Talking details through email or over the phone before jamming seems like a good idea. I'm going to put no crazy people, Republicans, tweakers, junkies, etc. Don't care at all about weed and booze as long as it's under control.
When creating a Craigslist musician wanted post should one should choose 'gig offered' for type of posting and 'I want to hire someone'? I don't know what else to select and have never done this before.

I hope so, but that description doesn't even make sense. You don't have to select "Community" twice—you just click on "post to classified" and select it once, and then pick "musicians." There are no choices between "gigs offered" or "I want to hire someone" involved at all. ???
What Rx said...just go to "Musicians", none o' that other mumbo jumbo. Once you get there, be entertained by all the incredible ads (if it's anything like Little Rock's)
I get it now, we are talking about the same thing. I had clicked 'post' while looking at the other musician posts instead of that way, it's the same.

I thought you were already in action, anyway. Are you trying to start a new project or filling a spot in the old one?
We are looking for a singer to take over vocal duties from me. I'm in over my head and want to focus just on guitar.

Let the comments and suggestions fly. I realize that our chances of finding the right type of singer in a city this small are pretty thin but I think it's worth a shot.
By the time you work a new singer into the lineup, you could have logged that additional practice time doing it yourself. Why would you want to turn the spotlight over to some random jackass? It might be hard now, but a year from now you'll be much further along, and less drama/less logistical issues.
By all means, try to find a singer, but if I was yous, I would double down on trying to become that person myself. Either by polishing up the requisite skills, or writing new material that fits your skill set better/modifying the current material, or both.
It won't be a random jackass, it will be the right person or no one.
Double duty is damn hard and I get super nervous, sometimes I don't enjoy the gigs much at all. And the more nervous I get the more I fuck up which makes it all the worse.
Practicing a lot makes it easier but that gets to be too much. I just want to play guitar.
Your ad seems good.

You described a band that actually does shit.
The Tuesday Night Bowling thing I used to describe situations I've been misled into checking out.
They literally did not have aspirations to play shows, much less even have songs or know how to write them. It was horrific.

LOL ya they walk among us
its really irritating because it has happened to me as well; they mislead and oversell due to the deficit that they have created. They need a bassist to commit, badly!!! Yet, no one wants to book, come prepared to rehearsal, no one wants to write new material, its just once a week time to hang out and just hope for our wildest dreams :)

maybe change the title to ROCK / METAL BAND SEEKS SINGER then your net is a bit bigger, you could convince a singer of another genre to start digging your style of music
you could get a PA and mic since singers are notorious for not owning anything, and then advertise that in your ad
also put forth that the album is almost done, you just need the singer's vocals, then imminent world domination will commence!!! also if you have a place to jam and a van then that would be stuff to advertize.
dont say anything about your deficits such as no guitar solos
take out Republicans, that is just 50% limiting and you would not limit your fanbase like that so why limit the singer
I do not understand why you gave a link to the Pentagram song that is not played by your band, rather make a recording of your band and post that
just friendly suggestions, I hope they help, cheers ;D

Of course now that the word is out friends and acquaintances are telling me they like my vocals... that doesn't makes this any easier.
I want the net to be as small as possible. We have a powered PA speaker, vocal mic, and in ear monitor gear that I currently use. I stated that we practice weekly so I have to assume they will realize we have a place to do it. I play guitar solos but they aren't super technical or amazing. 'No Republicans' because that is not happening. Also have no interest in super negative / right leaning / fuck everyone / being an asshole is awesome / everyone is a pussy types which is at least a third of metal musicians and fans. The demo is done, the vocals are recorded, we are currently mastering, very slowly. We recorded The Ghoul but have not touched it yet, it's raw. I would of course send interested parties bounces of our songs after a conversation started. Bottom line though is that if they don't know what doom metal is I don't really want them contacting me. I'm not looking to 'make something happen' or see what happens, I'm looking for the right singer. It is a crapshoot and quite possibly a waste of time but it's necessary.
@liquid. That's a solid ad. A bit wordy but you give your explanation. Should work.
@everdrone. You sir are in a pickle. You are either hypersensitive or you are in law enforcement/govt. or some shit. I have no more suggestions.
@liquid. cheers! If I had the pipes I would be interested regardless, seems that it is up to snuff for sure, awesome :)
@RAGER thanks for reviewing, you are right. my industry/employer is ultra-hypersensitive to that ;)
Maze, great ad, but I'd also take out the Republicans thing, it makes you sound intolerant...kinda like Republicans. Just make it clear at some point that you're an apolitical band (unless you're not, of course). I've been in bands with redneck jackasses (Arkansas lol) but it never came up in band activities, EVER, so it can be done
Ever, you might consider a genre that isn't completely full of stoners. Pop country mayhaps ? ;)
Them folks are pill junkies on legal pills. So that's prolly ok.
well I do live in Austin which has a ton of government employees etc that need a spotless criminal record etc...
I was trying to work with a guy that had xXx tattooed on his neck whereas he confirmed he was straightedge and he said he would work on a demo singing over a doom song I gave him, but he asked about doubling his voice and complained about being loud and worried about disturbing neighbors and then disappeared and deleted all his songs off his website three weeks ago http://www.bandmix.com/bob-melvin/ and http://www.instagram.com/bobxxxmelvin
but ya this may be an omen that I need to switch to pop ;D ;D ;D
i couldn't hang out with anyone who was too liberal or too conservative. in the middle is where i'm at. seems most reasoanable folks are. i would always leave politics out of it.
cl success seems to largely depend on what skills you bring to the table. after, of course you find some like minded people.
i recently responded to a cl ad looking for a 2nd guitar for a heavy rock band. around here "rock band" usually means middle of the road bullshit that makes you want to slit your own wrists. these guys seem cool and are into sabbath type stuff. turns out i know the drummer and after checking out their samples, geaqr used, influences, goaLS, and sending them some of my stuff it looks very promising. actually the kind of ad that is a dream come true for a lot of peeps on this forum. only downside so far, the bassist is 18. supposedly rewally good and a geezer/cisneros worshiper, but where you gonna play? house shows and the only all ages venue? over and over? we'll see what it looks like after i try it out. they seem very stoked to try me out, so that is kinda cool
Here in OK 18 yr olds can play in bars if they have a notarized letter from their parents. But they have to either be playing or outside.

Thank you. My hope is that it sounds intolerant enough to keep away right leaning misanthropes, wacko free market/destroy the social safety net types, and typical Republicans. I know such folks and have no interest in being in bands with them. I stated that our lyrics are about fantasy, horror, etc so hopefully people will understand that we are to some extent just typical left of center Madison types. If they don't like that cause you know, that's weak and improper for metal people(NUKE THE WORLD AND START OVER!!!), they will hopefully not respond and we'll all be better off.

This is from our first gig over a year ago before the name change and the guy's phone mic was clipping(we are not actually that sludgy) and it's probably our most straight forward and simple song but it's something if any of you are curious about our sound. The vocals are a little rough and I've since added some mid range parts.

I would post that instead of the song performed by Pentagram in the ad but maybe that is something to work with in a sales tactic fashion
my next phase in recruiting musicians is to get a roland vdrums and jamhub so I can record/mix the album and host practices at my apartment. maybe I will play guitar and then recruit a bassist since I can loan them my rig. that may take awhile to save up for though which is ok since I plan to practice and get a lot better at music by then :)

This is from our first gig over a year ago before the name change and the guy's phone mic was clipping(we are not actually that sludgy) and it's probably our most straight forward and simple song but it's something if any of you are curious about our sound. The vocals are a little rough and I've since added some mid range parts.
Ummm, that was really, really good. Since the audio is not great, maybe it's not a good representation, but otherwise, that was impressive. I like the simplicity of this song, and if you're playing 'genre music' (kult) then that's what people tend to want ('don't fuck up the formula'). I wouldn't change a thing, just polish up what you're doing. Your vocals are good! They are definitely not a negative. There are so many classic doom bands with embarrassing clean vocals (or at least "guilty pleasures") such as (here's where I get in trouble) Candlemass with Messiah, Trouble and Solitude Aeternus. I like the heavy reverb and your dark delivery (almost "stentorian" as they said about Al Cisneros). At one point you go for some higher notes and don't quite nail one or two - I'd rather see you sing with a one-octave range and deliver all the notes with total mastery, than to mix in higher notes just for variety and not always get them. But there's not that much vocals in the song anyway. I guess I could see the advantage of adding a great frontman there to do theatrical things you can't do while playing guitar (lurk about with a cape) but I really don't think you need it. You could also add a lead guitar player for solos (but I don't think you need that either, and there's a lot of advantages with one guitar player IMO). I think you should work with the elements you've got. I hope the other songs are as good as that. It seems like trad. doom with classic roots, but with a less-pretentious modern slant. It could bridge the gap between Candlemass/Trouble/etc and Thou/Corrupted/etc -- that would be a neat trick.
That's just based on hearing one song though! But it's good!
Liquid,
My friend in Madison, who knows zero about doom metal, totally digs you guys and has an interesting take on your sound and vocals. She hears The Sisters of Mercy and dark wave sounds in your riffs and voice. Probably not your intention, but an organic byproduct of your current formula maybe? Regardless, ya gotta be happy with what you do, and if just concentrating on the riffs is what you want, then go that route. It could be epic.
I really just hear lord vicar/rev bizarre.
I hear a heavy Steve Miller Band influence.

Thank you! Yes I fucked up that higher note at this show but have since gotten it down pretty good. Some of our songs have a lot more vocals and that's when I get to feeling more trapped behind the mic and anxious. I love Messiah's and Eric's vocals.

The anti-hired gun contingent on Austin CL is back in full force. Seems to happen every 3-6 weeks.
Can you post a couple examples? Curious.
"To the musicians who feel the need to play in multiple bands or so called 'hired guns'
---------------------------------
HIRED GUNS ARE LIKE HOOKERS: when a band needs a dependable replacement bandmate, it is just like a single person placing a personal ad to find a mate. The personal ad is OF COURSE going to exclude hookers: when a guy is seeking a girlfriend to be in a relationship- he is NOT going to be expecting someone who has another 'john' to service an hour later. In my band, the guy who comes to rehearsals is the guy who gets paid at the gig. If you can't be bothered to learn the material at rehearsals and perform in a predictable manner on stage, then you are no use in a tight rehearsed act.
I can't tell you how many times over the years I have auditioned musicians and thought 'hey, this guy could handle the job if he wanted to', only to have him reply 'I don't rehearse, just call me when you have a gig'. Well guess what? He will never get a call.
And he wonders why he has to keep trolling craigslist desperately scavenging for work like a buzzard waiting for something to die.
And further- Mr Hired Gun Hooker: have you aver tried to front for a band? run a band? set up and run a rehearsal? do bookings for a band? keep your guys employed? After all- you are a pro- right?
Pro is right! Professional whore- take the money and run to the next 'john'- oh sorry- job.
I"m suprised you can eat with that mouth...
HIRED GUNS NEED NOT APPLY"
This one kind of started it this time around.
Had it been posted merely once it could have opened up some dialog. I even sent the dude a respectful email response answering his questions from my own reasons why I can't be in one band right now. His response could have been respectful but could have been snarky. Hard to tell.
But then he's been reposting few times a week which of course stirred the shit pot.
"i have to ask, why is it that musicians feel the need to troll for other band situations if they are already in one situation that looks promising. It seems to me, you may have a commitment complex, maybe its something that was developed from childhood, maybe you lacked the attention you desperately craved, who knows. But seriously, do you have to be in multiple bands to be full filled as a musician.
most startup situations require dedication, and people who are not afraid of committing all their time and efforts to making this situation a success.
i realize some of you need to broaden your skills for personal satisfaction but instead, why dont you concentrate those energies into the one promising situation you are in , instead of floundering around aimlessly for no apparent reason."
Sounds like envy and jealousy. How have they been so wrong by someone that wants to be in a couple bands. Like I've sid here in Portland, you almost have to be in at least two bands unless you;re a good drummer then you have to be in at least 3. And aren't you right now Danny fronting your own band, doing the promoting, booking and handling the release, etc......?
Yes I am. In addition to juggling a half dozen other projects.
All while keeping your hair nice :P
I think I might be the only drummer in town who's only in one band. I've actually rarely two-timed it in my whole 25 years of playing music. But also I'm not trying to make a living as a musician or get famous or anything. Just one vision for one band at a time. But no judgment or snark for folks doing it other ways.
I would publish a hair care secrets book, but it's really only a notecard's worth of information:
"Wash once in awhile using cheap shampoo. Towel dry. Eh, I'll comb it next month."
Multiple bands can be great. You don't get board from playing the same set every night. You can enjoy a larger over all fan base and might actually play more gigs. Just my two cents
Exactly.
I don't want to be in any band that calls band practice rehearsal.
It's a band, not a role in Cats.
I'm kinda the same way with gig versus show.
audience votes, not the armchair quarterbacks ;)
show up to practice and shows prepared? Willing to help promote and book? more power to you!
Quote from: black on August 22, 2014, 06:41:27 PM

I know where you're coming from, but disagree. Semantics, maybe, but to me, "practice" Is something a musician does on his own to be competent on his instrument. "Rehearsal" is what a a band does to prepare for a gig, performance, show, recording, or whatever you may call it. All the individual elements need to separately have practiced their instruments and parts, the band gets together to rehearse their (hopefully) synergistic performance. Tomato/to-mah-toe? I dunno...
I dig that. musicians showing up prepared and on time to a rehearsal? then count me in on bass :)
Unless a salary is being paid to a musician, then there is no basis for a demand that a musician be dedicated to a specific project. If anyone is in a position to be demanding in that regard, then they need to pony up a livable wage, otherwise a dude has to do what he can to make ends meet.
If a person were to have to lay out of band practice (the way to refer to it) because of their square job, would dude be so miffed about it? Same result for a different reason. And the reason is absolutely no business of his.
He's unreasonable and will go no where with other people with that attitude. He'll need to go RAGER and hide in his basement instead. ;)
Yes I can be unreasonable.
I guess I should rehearse what I'm going to say to justJon next time I see him and want to tell him how band practice is going. ;)

43-year-old rock drummer available (Taylor Ranch)
Hi there. I'm a superb drummer. I don't feel that's a conceited detail to share, as I have over twenty years of stage and recording experience. It would be kind of pathetic if I weren't superb by this point.
I'll offer the down-side right away, to keep you from reading any further than you might want to: I no longer have my own drum set. Too much of it fell apart after years of Bonham-esque playing. I'm posting this ad in the rare event that you have equipment, but you've got nobody experienced and reliable to put behind it. I figured, "Why not?"
I'm easy to get along with, and I stick to commitments. I'm good-humored and cooperative.
I'm also a singer, back-up or otherwise (and a songwriter, but if you already have material, I'm not Ego Man about my own stuff. The ego should never hurt the music -- the music is the point).
I'm a good collaborator, but I'm also good at leaving finished songs alone. In addition to drums, I play rhythm guitar and piano -- I record my own songs and simply overdub all the parts myself. It's fun!
I'm 43, and interested in joining a band of people in their 30s or above. If you're into drugs, or your music is religious, please stop reading at this time. Thank you.
Influences include Jethro Tull, The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Grand Funk Railroad, Joe Jackson, Frank Zappa, Deep Purple, '70s progressive rock, '50s rock and roll......many things, apparently!
I'm reliable, and I don't drink or use drugs. I try to be tolerant of light drinkers, however, since I smoke cigarettes (outside -- I'm aware that a lot of people don't like the smoke).
I have no car, on principle, so it might be a drag to pick me up for practice, unless practice occurs within walking distance of Taylor Ranch. I don't mind walking; I enjoy it, and I walk or take the bus everywhere.
Thanks for reading this. Take care.
Chris
seems like he would be a good fit for someone..
Epic Heavy Metal Vocalist, with an amazing 6 octave range is searching for world class musicians with gear, money, a studio, and a place to party when we are done making magic. I have local bar connections, so I can get us gigs whenever we need a few bucks. Since I have these connections, I will take a larger cut of the profits.THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE! I will be fronting the band both on stage and behind the scenes. I will, in essence, be the manager (BO$$) and leader of this band.
If you are still reading this, then you are probably still interested, mesmerized, and/or excited to be part of a historic opportunity. Here is what I expect from my writing partners...
1.Epic Talent: This goes without saying. Since you are getting an epic vocalist, it only makes sense for all of us to be on the same page. Don waste my time with boring, and predictable hooks. If you are not in the top 1%, then go bottom-feed with the other 99%.
2.Transportation: All of you MUST have a vehicle. Sadly, I lost my license years ago due to some law about driving shit-hammered. So, I will need a ride from point A to point B, and back to point A, with occasional pit-stops to pick up packaged goods in Camden. I am being very transparent here. I am direct and to the point!
3.Must Be Coach-able: As you can tell, I demand excellence. You WILL write incredible music, and my voice WILL be the missing piece, which will be layered over the arrangements in dramatic fashion. One section may have soaring vocal melodies and then all of a sudden we may need to transition into a soft, angelic whisper. If I do not sense that the composition is being composed accordingly, we will need to have a meeting and discuss where and why your writing fell apart. These meetings are aimed at illustrating key concepts and ideas that may have been forgotten or ignored. The goal is to help get you back on track, so do not take this personal.
4.No Spotlight Stealers: I am the singer, leader, manager, and BO$$. Too many "leaders" will confuse our fan-base. Look at what happened to Buddy Holly. Everyone wanted to be a leader in that band and the plane crashed. Look at what happened to Nirvana. Grohl wanted to be a leader and Kobain shot himself. Bad things happen when there are too many leaders. Lets keep it simple!
In closing, I will be direct and to the point. Please do not mistaken my tone or attitude for arrogance. I dont have time to waste, babysit, or watch you rot away writing stupid riffs. I need professionals who are literally willing to take a bullet in the head, in order to make it big! Contact me ASAP and LETS MAKE MAGIC!

I forgot to grab a link, but the Austin CL troll was in rare form last week Monday.
He grabbed the titles of several legit ads but replaced the text with his own rantings about hired guns and how they will never amount to anything etc etc etc.
More sad than annoying, and it is really annoying.
Ironically, all the posts were on Monday. Hmmm. A bitter failed musician just spent another gig less weekend and took to CL to voice his frustrations. And it's like he's mad at his own shortcomings which he has projected on to musicians who are doing what he wants to do, but cannot.
What a sad individual.

You will play by yourself for the rest of your life, becasue no band wants a selfish, individual that is not a team player, that will not do his part to make the group be and sound the best it can. If you are that good; which you are not, you need to go to Nashville and catch on with a national act and stop posting you arrogant posts and making demands of other. You probably need to read the book "How to Make Friends and Influence Others" Just a suggestion."

I actually want one of those really old "single pup at the neck position" juniors, but yowza are they expensive.
wtf, must be a collector thing, so that cuts me out.
edit: well that sucks. can't find one with just a bridge pup. I guess the ones with 2 pups are as good as it gets, oh well

The brutally honest approach:
QuoteGreybeard metal, west side
From heavy to metal
Duo seeking drummer or bassist or any combination. Vocals a plus. Not serious. Most Mondays. Few gigs. Many covers, originals slowly coming along. Hook/groove driven. MOST Mondays. We could sway from the Monday situation if you have a place to practice. The idea of renting a practice place is good with another member or two. Baggage on the otherside of practice. Not out to change the world, just enjoy playing. Mostly just standing around telling bad jokes and trying to play songs to the best of our ability with the least amount of practice and most amount of something something darkside. Think, southern rock with touches of doom. Don't act like you started playing cuz you thought it was smart

so sunno, just how thin can you shave a thin neck AND scallop it too. that would help out the
value added artwork.

does anyone have an anodized aluminum neck with a rosewood fretboard? you could make as thin of a profile as you cared to, basically.
Depends on how good the neck was to begin with. I've scalloped a couple Ibanez necks that got a little hairy because they were so thin. It's a matter of leverage. At some point there won't be enough resistance to keep the neck flat.
I have a scalloped neck flying v. It ruined the thing as far as I'm concerned. Just the frets from 13 on up. I bought it that way, cuz it was a Gibson v for $100 and I was 16. Now I let the kids kick it around.

hindsight=20-20.
dude, i had a 76' strat, mint. it was a natural ash. gorgeous. i scalloped it. did a pretty good job actually. sealed it w/linseed oil.
then the shred thing blew out. i traded it for some 90's era bullshit like a crate solid state head or some shit.

Ive been wanting a V with an upper fret scallop job.....
why?
Lemme get that V. I've got some stuff for your kids to kick around. ;-)

Well I love flying Vs and I think an upper fret scalop would help all my old arthritic fingers to dig in for bends easier.

These ads pop up from time to time.
As a hired gun as well as a past and present band leader, it is laughably stupid.
Ocean of Stars can't always take gigs as some of the players have other gigs that night. Myself included.
I don't get pissed off at them. I WANT them to play as much as possible because that's what they do and the more you play the better you get.
Maybe if the original poster's band was more worthy of people's time, he'd shut the fuck up and stop posting bullshit.
Does he work his day job for free for the love of whatever he does? Hell no. You gotta pay the bills. Hired guns are musicians who are so dedicated to music they've made it a career and can't always play for fun/free. But still do on occasion with the right situation.
Some of the bands I'm in id probably play for free because I love being involved. But they give me some money anyway because they know this is what I do and as a gesture of appreciation for taking the time to help them realize their musical vision.
People are weird.

Wanna be the loudest person at band practice? Wanna piss off every sound guy in Cleveland? Opening for Toby Keith at Blossom and/or Midnight at Now That's Class? This rig can handle it, because it's 200 watts of eardrum-splitting, vintage Peavey power from Peavey's best era.
This head was made in 1975, the same year that Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Nuthin' Fancy" came out. That album featured Ed King, who himself played a Super Duper Festival Series Roadmaster back then! How's that for useless trivia? (and while I don't think Ed King played this particular amp, I can't say for certain)
Anyway, this baby was serviced in December 2015 at which time a matched quad of Sovtek 6550WE tubes were installed. The head itself is rated at 3 ohms (weird, right?), and can safely run a 4 ohm cab or a 2 ohm cab.
Speaking of cabs, this one is road-worn but functionally sound, and rolls nicely on Ernie Ball casters. It is loaded with $320 worth of speakers in the form of four Eminence Red Coat Private Jack 12"s. When it's paired with the Roadmaster head, these speakers move SERIOUS AIR! I have this cab wired down to 2 ohms, just like the original Roadmaster cabs were.
I'll separate the two - $500 for the head, $300 for the cab. The pair goes together for a firm $725.
NO TRADES unless you've got a reasonably solid '90s GM B-body station wagon (Caprice, Roadmaster, Custom Cruiser). I might throw cash down for the right one.
Jake, you don't happen to have a solid 90's GM B body station wagon laying around the yard do you???

During 1935 there were 88 D-28's made.
I have examined the attached photos of the instrument described below, but have not seen the instrument itself. Below is my estimate, based on these photos, of the instrument's value; however, it is not possible to judge from photos alone the exact state of originality and need of repair, so my appraisal is only accurate insofar as the photos are representative of the actual condition of the instrument.
We certify the instrument described below is, in our opinion, a Martin style D-28 acoustic flattop guitar, made in the year 1935.
Description: We have been provided the following information: "Martin D-28 SN 61176 The fretboard, nut, bridge and bridge plate have been replaced. The neck and sides have been refinished during a drop repair that cracked the lower bass bout and the bass side of the neck from the nut to the third fret. These repairs are stable. The neck heel was cracked and repaired during a neck reset during 1979. That is the only reset that has been done. The top center seam has been splined, other top cracks have been worked on and are stable. The back crack is the same. The top and back finish is original. Tuners are Gotoh 512 21-1 ratio. Interior of guitar is not clean, showing excess glue etc. There are no cracked or damaged braces. The bridge plate is maple in good condition and slightly larger than stock. Work needed; The guitar is playable but it needs a neck reset. The bridge has been shaved and needs replacement. It is not an oversized replacement. Professional attention would greatly benefit this guitar. This guitar has been in storage in a double strength Calton case with a Colorado Case cover for the last eight years, de-tuned and rarely played." Serial number: 61176. The owner has stated that this instrument has undergone numerous repairs and restoration, as stated in detail above. Upon examination we note that a metal strap button has been added to the heel. In other respects, this instrument conforms to the typical specifications of the model for the period in which it was made with dreadnought size body, Adirondack spruce top with scalloped bracing, Brazilian rosewood back, sides and peghead veneer, nitrocellulose tortoise-shell grain pickguard, classic "5-9-5" soundhole rosette, multiple bindings on the top and back edges of the body with herringbone wood marquetry top edge trim, "zipper" pattern wood marquetry back stripe, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard, "slotted diamond" mother-of-pearl fingerboard inlays, gold-colored "C.F. Martin & Co." peghead decal, and other typical style 28 appointments.
Current market value: $40,000 (forty thousand dollars)

Yeah that's right. A Guy Fieri themed hardcore punk band (ala Black Flag and stuff of that era, not fucking Silverstein or whatever you wankers listen to these days). We will all dress like Guy Fieri and sing about cheeseburgers, deep-fried spaghetti lard loafs, and shit.
Need a drummer, guitar or bass, and singer. The fatter and more like Fieri you look the better.
Don't be offended if you are not selected, not everyone is gangster enough to be in Fieri.
No druggies, let's be honest, you won't be fat enough for Fieri if you are doing that shit.

What we have here, simply put, is the best used pallet jack in the history of pallet jacks. A testament to human kind's ability to create near magical artifacts to help us in our adventures. It's pretty much the best used pallet jack in the universe, despite being painted yellow. It can lift 5000 lbs. FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS! Good Lord. Frankly, I'm surprised it doesn't have a name like "Excaliber" or "Lifty". "Jackie" would have been too obvious, so we never went there. There is nothing wrong with it...we are only letting it go because it's time for another to create whole worlds with this wonder.
I've included photos so you can see the majesty of it for yourself. I know to the uneducated eye she may not look like much, but she has it where it counts. If you have a pallet you need to move, a couple pumps of this handle, and BOOM...this will pick it right up and move it right out of your way like it was nothing.
Glorious. It's not even made by aliens either. Humans made this. Not just any humans either, AMERICANS. Back when that meant something. They saw that humans couldn't lift 5000 pounds on their own, and said, "NOT ON MY WATCH!!" and thus, the Pallet Mule was born.
God damn, it's really something. Let me know if you have any questions. $200 obo. Buyer must pick up.

I don't think I'd pay that now. That's more than I paid for my Novation Peak. And it's a super bad ass 8 voice poly synth. With a nice delay, chorus and reverb built in.
Weren't the Moogerfooger delays like 800 bucks when they were new?
Not sure. I have all but two and the 104m was the most expensive.

Get that bass I bet it's nice.
That could also be a huge mess. I dunno, maybe it's fun.
You can find some surprisingly cheap 8 stringers, I forget which brands offhand but some are not all that expensive.
The 12-strings are even better:
Are the two other strings tuned to the fifth and the octave or something? They look like the exact same gauge. I don't fuckin get it man
The thin ones on each course are both octaves.
12-string bass is all over Cheap Trick's stuff, for example—& great for 3-piece bands because it can fake rhythm guitar.
cool ass bass solo.
Very cool.
